Afherkdriver posted on Veterans' Page & Militaria On Veterans Day I attended the Army's "turning blue" ceremony at Ft. Benning. My grandson was one of the recruits. The Army really did it right. A very moving event. I was so proud of him and the Army. They took a lad that had no direction in his life and turned him into a squared away man. I only wish he had a CIC that we could be proud of and could trust with his life.

Rake King Afherdriver: They have done for too many young lads to count. I was one of them.

Rollingcow I have seen many aimless young men-and women, go into the military and come out with purpose. I have made a point to thank those who have and are serving where ever I see them. It doesn't matter if they've seen action or not, just by joining they show they are grateful for their county. Mrs. Cow

Afherkdriver posted on Veterans' Page & Militaria In June my only grandson will be going in the Army in the infantry. I am really concerned about him, like any Grandfather would be. My big concern is that the leadership (?) of our once great country is pathetic at its best. I am really concerned for his safety because they just don't seem to care. I guess I should rationalize that I spent 32 years and worked for Robert Strange McNamara and Lyndon "Great Society" Johnson and survived. If there was a program where I could go in his place I'd do it in a minute. Anyway, pray for his safety and our country.

Phooey Afherkdiver, I know! I was there! " All Gave Some " " Some Gave All " I know your feeling. Prayer is on the way. BTW,McNamara and Johnson can go...........

Surfhut Is he being deployed in June? Afghanistan? I'll be praying for him. My nephew recently graduated BCT at Ft. Jackson. I'll pray for both boys together.

Escaped commieny I include all our Military personnel and families in nightly prayers. We have some good commanders over there. My nephew is in Stan and we have our L-dotter Blue-Z in Kabul that checks in with us at the Salon but you are right about the (little)cIC, the others care. Bless you for Your Service, DAVA EC

Afherkdriver posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters We have a cat that we rescued from a no kill shelter 5 years ago. She is just the smartest cat in our world. We had her to the vet about a month ago for what I think is something unrelated. She recently has taken to licking her fur to the point of licking it completely off her inside back legs and some of her tail. She is as active and pleasant as ever and seems contented. We do have a vet appointment, but does anyone have any similar experiences or ideas on what the heck is going on? Bald cats are no fun.

MsCharlotteVale Maybe an allergy? My friend has a Yorkie who constantly licks herself and the vet told her it was an allergy to something. I'm sure that fur-bearing animals have some similarites even if they're of different species.

Rollingcow I've had a couple of dogs who have done that. The vet should have a shampoo to help although I'm aware that bathing a cat has it's own problems. Mrs. Cow

OnTheBall Sounds like either mange or a skin allergy to some substance in its enviroment. I've seen and heard a lot about dogs and cats locally who have grass allergies.

Paget51 My daughter's big black cat did that and the poor kitty looked so pathetic with a bald tummy. It turned out he had fleas, and sensitive skin, so the vet had to treat him for both problems. His hair has all grown back now. :)

Attercliffe On vet's advice I give one of my psycho cats 1/2 Chlortrimeton/day (WalMart has generic equivalent) and it is solving her bare spots problem, not to mention hair ingestion. She has a flea allergy too. Ask your vet for correct dosage according to weight. I crush the 1/2 tab and mix it in with a bit of food I know she loves and stick it on top of the mound of canned food in her dish. She's SO much happier. (Hard to keep fleas under control, dogs on all sides and across the street too, and they spend a lot of time on their backyards.)

Afherkdriver posted on Main Page The Lobby I just know that those solar cells are sucking the heat out of the sun. The windmills slow the warm winds down. There is the real cause of all this cold weather. Fire up all the SUV's?

Afherkdriver posted on Main Page The Lobby I remember several Christmas times when I was on SAC alert in Goose Bay. In 1968 I was in Southeast Asia.. We had to convince our kids that we had a special arrangement with Santa to show up in April. I now look back and see that time was wasted defending a country that the liberals and progressives are willing to give away and destroy.

Escaped commieny Never is defending this country and it's values, a waste of time. The progs are in power now, but this too shall pass as American's out number them and patriots are awake. It is our fault that we trusted our elected, but no longer will we be naive, they over played their hand. Their incrementalism would have worked if they had waited for the next uneducated, indoctrinated generation but there are still too many of us that know the real history and beliefs that make us unique and we shall prevail. In 1968 my better half was at Walter Reed, healing. Chin up, proud DAVA, we win in spite of them.

Rollingcow I agree with Escaped commieny. I for one am very grateful and humbled by your service. It is men like you who have allowed the rest of us to live good lives and raise families in peace and as much freedom as possible. Love to all our Vets here and a very heartfelt thank you for all you've done. Mrs. Cow
