Belwhatter posted on Main Page The Lobby  The Iran deal can be neutered according to Andy McCarthy in article in National Review.Obama has not fullfilled required obligations of side deal and timeline. Well worth a look, and hope too that the jellyfish in Congress will follow up on it.

BirdsNest  What's the plural of jellyfish? I am not being flip. There are more than one in Congress that can lay claim to that name.

Lonestar Jack  No chance of saving the Iran deal until the Dems are long gone.
There won't be much happening about Hillary either unfortunately. The problem is there are too many liberal SOB's. For the uninitiated that stands for Save Obama's Butt.

Safetydude  Pope Francis is the CEO of the wealthiest institutions in the world. It's invested in almost every corporation in the world and its annual spending is over 170 Billion dollars, that is, the church spends more than $170 billion every year.

In order to support that spending what must be its income and what are its assets and where are those assets buried? As a church, in the US at least, its finances don't come under any regular corporate tax laws...and he's condemning those corporations that the church is deriving its wealth from.
Talk about hypocrisy...

Belwhatter posted on Main Page The Lobby  Listening to Rush this morning discoursing on millenials, he hit the nail on the head. Yesterday at an ex Subway location now used for ministry to the homeless other street people, a young man, tall, of good physique packing about 50 lbs on his back showed up for a lunch. He calls himself a traveller, having eschewed normal things such as a home, family and job for this drifting life style. I am pretty sure he rgarded us as a bunch of old fuddy duddies, however he allowed himself a few moments conversation and a bag of food to go until his clostrophobia re asserted itself and he was off. He had no plans other than to cross the border into Canada via a raspberry field, certainly not at the official crossing. He was not thinking of writing a book or doing anything remotely useful to anyone. He is a typical millenial according to Rush, and hoow sad for his parents left in the dark while he roams around finding himself or something.

Surfhut  I love Rush, but IMO he did not hit the nail on the head.
People have criticized and lamented over how each new generation is awful for a very long time. I'm a Baby Boomer and mother of a Millenial. Every generation has bad apples. Wish Rush and others would write and speak about millenials who are doing great things. There are a lot of them, and their stories might just inspire others.

Belwhatter  Dear Surfhut, as ever, painting with a broad brush inevitably impugns someone's goodness. How good it is to hear that your millenial child is succeeding and sees merit in working for career and independence. I congratulate both mother and child. These are uncertain times for all, the strong rally, the weak opt out.

Gerty  Not wanting to create an unpleasant dialogue, I must disagree with you, Miss Surfhut. You are so fortunate! I have witnessed your comments about your son over the years---and you are right, he is a great person. He is also rare.

I am the aunt of over seventy-five (75 ) nieces and nephews (both grand and great-grand ). We know each other by name and deed. And while I will fight for their survival under any circumstance, Rush is right. I observe it every day.

Surfhut  Gerty, your dialogue was not unpleasant. I don't have 75 millenials in my life. Probably only 20. They have struggled more than my generation did to be successful. It comes down to socio-economics, doesn't it?

Belwhatter, I agree. The strong rally and the weak opt out. It doesn't take a village. It takes parents who pay attention and are not from generations of people looking for freebies instead of a job. My 2 cents worth.

Belwhatter posted on Main Page The Lobby  Convention of States - just received in yesterday's mail an interesting letter - perhaps other L Dotters have received same - It speaks of the way the makers of the Constitution gave us an out from both tyrranical leaders and tyrannical government to bypass Congress, White House and the Courts. Article V authorizes State Legislatures to propose amendments to the Constitution. The letter reminds readers how out of hand matters have become in DC - re crippling taxes, debt, spending, NSA spying, IRS targeting and cover ups, activist courts and judges.Three states are already in, 21 states are committed to filing, and more.2/3rds states needed to propose amendment and 3/4ths to ratify I think. Mark Levin's book The Liberty Amendments speaks to this solution.Contact Citizens for Self Governance for more information - is this our parachute to sanity?

Safetydude  I haven't read the book. I have a lot of respect for Mark Levin but I'm afraid of ...Self Governance...which may, or may not. be code for a direct democracy.

Remember in 1992 Ross Perot wanted on-line voting and no electorial college, ie; rule by majority: Democracy.

John C  Great book by Mark. The deal is that a state commits to particular changes/amendments and only those changes will be considered. Therefore no run away convention.

Safetydude  Who will vote for the changes/amendments ?
Citizens or Obamas' illigals?

There is a reason why all states have to ratify a change to the Constitution.

Ole buzzard  I am a District Captain for the COS Project. Lonestar Jack, it's not legislation, and there are many safeguards built in. First, 2/3 of the states must request the convention. Second, the convention only proposes the amendments, Congress has no say in the process except to choose the time and place for the convention. Third, once proposed, it takes a 3/4 majority of the states to approve any amendments. Some states approve by way of their legislatures, and some by way of direct vote of its citizens.

So it's a three step process: A 2/3 majority to call the convention; A majority vote for an amendment to come out of the convention; and a 3/4 majority to ratify. That's a lot of hoops to jump through.

Belwhatter posted on Main Page The Lobby  At a local TEA party meeting last night, the guest speaker from the state dept. of ecology addressed environmental issues from the free market point of view. He noted that the push to build "green" schools has had interesting results. He compared the energy savings of a new green elementary school with those of a similar sized new traditional style school built at the same time. The utility bills of the green school, which cost 3% more to build, were 30% higher than hose of the traditional build. He brought it to the notice of the architect[green school] who harrumphed and blamed a design feature. The following year our speaker did another review of utility bills and found the design alteration had reduced the energy consumption by a whopping 5% still 25% higher. After this the state repealed a law mandating green schools.

MeiDei  Yes, the area extends from the Hawaiian Islands in the north to Samoa in the south and west to Guam (wonder how Ms. Pelosi will take this as their tuna canneries operate there ) Wake Island and several atolls. He plans to do it by executive order. Does he have the power & the right to do so is debatable, but that doesn't seem to stop him.
