BetterNow posted on Suggested Viewing/Listening  Struan had posted this picture back in Oct. on the Photography Wall. It made me think of an old Escape! radio program that I had heard a couple of years ago.

Yottyhere  hahahaha!! Ralph knows you needa starch for a balanced meal...

Had a collie who would wander across the street and pick a tomato from the neighbors tomato plants THEN he would come back on our lawn lay down in plain sight and eat his 'mater. Luckily the neighbor was also a good friend who thought it was hilarious ...except for the day Blazer got the 'mater he had been planning to pick for his lunch. Ooops....

Belwhatter  The wind did all the raking we needed - it blew through here at 60mph last night, even lifted the barbecue plus its gas tank clean off the porch into the hydrangea bush but every single fallen leaf that littered the grass yesterday was gone - pristine green grass without any effort - once in a while mother nature has an unintended consequence.

Rake King  I pity the guys down wind...maybe only today have they dug out of the leaf mountain. They may be fence top high in some spots, especialy in those chain link fences. Maybe they blew where a gardener is excited to get them for his/her recycle bin.

BetterNow posted on Pet Peeves  PET PEEVE One step forward---two steps backwards

The other day we were expecting thunderstorms. I figured I had better clean out the gutters so they would not clog. (Years before Mom passed, she got an electric leaf blower. Raking was getting hard on her, so she would blow the leaves around while I tried to use her trusty old rake to gather and bag them up. Now they are mine. )
Now I like to use the leaf blower on the roof and gutters. Hauled the thing and the cord up the ladder, stood firm and ... nothing. Climbed down, got the broom, swept the roof and crept along the edge on my butt to clean gutters.
Climbed down, grabbed the rake to rake up my mess and SNAP went the handle!

BetterNow  Happy ending, though! Later that day while it was raining, I climbed up in the barn and found an old "tobacco stick" from years ago and fixed Momma's rake.

The leaf blower just had a little piece of plastic something that had broken off that had to be there. It lets the leaf blower know that the grid under it is in place to keep you from sticking your fingers in the fan blades. Four toothpicks taped together with electric tape and cut to just a little more than 1/4" then jammed up to hold that thing in place, and I am now ready for the next go round.

So I guess PET PEEVE #2 = Little Plastic Pieces!

Rake King  Betternow: after seeing your photo, that rake appears to be one of ours (did she get it at Walmart? ). If so, if you need a new handle, I would be happy to send you one. Email me your address (no P.O. Box ) to my company email: gardex@earthlink.net. I will send you one no charge via UPS. After inserting the tapered end into your rake remember to install the screw included (so head will not keep falling off ). Sorry, but I am not into "little plastic parts".

BetterNow  Thanky much. He has been a hoot to have around!

We brought him home in Nov. because we couldn't find his owner (or anyone who would please take him ). He was a drop off probably 5 months old. Mr. Now was afraid he would start to follow him as he crossed the street to come home, so he just decided to bring him home with him and let me teach him to stay on our side of the road. With the help of our older, tattle-tale Gracie, he has done quite well.

BetterNow posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters  S.E. TN. had a long, hot, dry summer. I am so glad it now feels like fall and I can play catch-up on outdoor chores. This was my ash pile from our wood stove from this past winter. For some reason Ralph loves to run through it and stir up a mess!
