Betty Jean  I just changed avatars and the caption that went with this picture said "why would you think I knew what happened to your red marker" or something like that. I fell in love with that little pupper.

Betty Jean  On Friday evening when we were grocery shopping at Walmart, there was a Jackson-Hewitt cubie and outside was a big sign that said 'You might qualify for a $5,666 EITC.' Does that mean they get a check for $5,666 and pay no taxes?

ahhh yes. Those Banana Cabanas. They ARE good, aren't they? Glad you remember and enjoy! Sorry, I've been wayyyy out of the radar for awhile. We unexpectedly sold our house after a neighbor/realtor asked for a" 1-time only" showing. We have NO idea where to go---but have decided to leave Tucson after 15+ years. As you can imagine, things have been a little hectic.
I just now read about Latifah and am praying.

Betty Jean  Prayer warriors needed for Edwin and Latifah Salazar here in Port Charlotte. Latifah, a teacher and mother of two little ones, is having her third round of cancer. Her precious husband lost his job with Walmart the first of December. They went to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa last night, met with doctors this morning and was told she will not get over this and they can only extend her time with chemo treatments. Edwin said this is the first time ever that they were told what they were dealing with. Edwin is in choir with me and they are a wonderful Christian family who would appreciate your prayers for her healing and for employment for him.

Betty Jean  I'm not sure when the anniversary of the Iran hostages is, but one day during the holidays I was listening to the guy who was filling in for Glenn Beck. He was good friends with Rocky Sieckmann and had Rocky on his show. I was particularly interested because I lived in St. Louis at the time, Rocky lived in a small town west of the city and there was lots of news reports about him and the situation. Also, one of the guys who was in my [McDonnell Douglas] van pool had been one of the hostages. Here are some notes I took:

When the Iranians were knocking down the back gate to their compound, their Iranian guards paid no attention and when they got hold of the ambassador, he said not to fight them, that he would handle it. Rocky was locked outside and they just barely saw him in time to get him in before they locked the door. After they got inside the building, the Iranians made women walk in front of them so they would take any bullets fired. After they were captured, they were chained in chairs for 30 days with no talking. Still in chains (hands to feet) when they were put to bed.

They had seen a video with a wall, people were taken to the wall, blindfolded and shot. Seven times during the 444 days they were hostages, they were stripped naked, walked to the wall, blindfolded and a gun put to their head.

$8 BILLION was paid to Iran to free the hostages (first I ever heard of this) and they also demanded weapons, which turned into the Iran-Contra affair.

Billy Gallegos (not sure of the name) was Jewish and was tortured unmercifully by the Iranians and died not long after they got back to the US.

He was not questioned by Achmedinejab (??) but others with him were and Rocky had seen him there. Many years later, he was on an airplane, opened a newspaper and the hair stood up on the back of his neck when he recognized Achmedinejab as one of the Iranian captors.

Rocky is now director of global sales for Anheuser-Busch and is a grandfather.

I realize everyone is mostly involved with the news from Tucson but I saw these notes and wanted to share them. Rocky said that Iran had NEVER had to answer for this atrocious act against our citizens and our country.
