Clipped wings posted on Coffee Klatch I pop in from time to time. Nice to see the folks with their friendly give and take, just like in a familiar coffee shop with the regulars catching up on their friends.

Gerty It's a nice, warm feeling, Miss Clipped wings---especially in the cold winter months!
NWPA Yes, sometimes the main board is too depressing to read. Today's a mental health day for me so I'm checking the nice salon.

Clipped wings posted on Veterans' Page & Militaria I am appalled at the way the Administration is getting rid of our best and effective top brass, replacing them with yes men/women. I am hoping that they won't sit back but become outspoken once civilians. Oh, and are the Oathtakers still active?
Clipped wings posted on Sports Well the so called super bowl is finally almost here. Hype, hype and more hype. Which team are you folks pulling for? Personally, I'd cheer for anyone against the Ravens (we call them the Criminals ).

Rake King Personally I am pulling for the St. Louis Rams....what's that you say, they aren't in the Super Bowl. Well then I'm not pulling for the Raven or 49ers as both teams have forgotten this is "Tackle Football", not head leading football.

Balogreene I agree with clipped wings, it would really hurt to see Ray Lewis with a Super Bowl ring. But, I may not even watch. Every team I rooted for, lost.
Ole buzzard I'm with Balogreene. No more rings for Ray Lewis, the thug!!

Clipped wings Yes, my teams were eliminated. One team I was pulling for was the Falcons but saw they didn't deserve to win when they called such stupid plays for two games running.

Clipped wings posted on Suggested Reading I have been reading lots of novels while recuperating. Mostly they are on the Kindle but have a couple of Baldacci's on the Ipad. I still love to check for free kindle offerings and several times have found some really good ones. If the editing is horrible or nonexistent, I discard it even if the story line is interesting. If they are free, I haven't lost a thing.

Balogreene I first read "The girl with the...." Stuff free. It was kinda irritating. But, I agree, I really look for free books. Another place to look is librivox.org. It is the National Archive site of all out of copyright books. They work well with my iPod.

Clipped wings Here's a new one that I found interesting. Different take on the serial killer theme. I really liked the idea of the "shade" as the author called it of a long dead Voodo queen assisting. A good thriller by an unknown author, Thomas Rowe Drinkard. The book is "Devil's Blade.

Clipped wings posted on Gardening & Landscaping I haven't logged on in months but thought I'd offer a suggestion. I got a new seed and plant catalog today. I hadn't seen this one before and it looks to have a lot of excellent offerings. I was especially interested in the many heirloom seeds that were popular in the late 1800s and the great variety of items to attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Perhaps not everyone is familiar with this so I thought I'd mention it. The catalog is selectseeds.com.

BirdsNest Hagar asked what kind of tomatoes would we stat this season. First response was Cherokee Purple-you can hardly find any tomato that tastes better. I still want to try Pineapple, have had them before and they are gigantic and beautiful and delicious. Another one will be Striped Cavern. I was not impressed with Japanese Black Trifele-the flavor just wasn't there and I did not like the texture. Black Krim did not do well-maybe we planted it too late. Same with German Johnson-the plants we bought had been stressed, thought I could bring them back-no luck.

StarFire "Amen" to the Cherokee Purple. We tried one plant last year. It continued to produce when all the other tomatoes were struggling. They were wonderful in salads and sandwiches. I even caught the grandkids slicing them for snacks. Best tomatoes ever.

Clipped wings posted on Main Page The Lobby Good articles today about the speeches last night. Personally, I enjoyed them all. What I did not like was the way Fox News panned the audience. They showed every person they could find that yawned or that was snoozing. They seemed to focus on the least attractive persons they could find or ones that seemed awed by the lights. MSNBC may have cut the minorities from their viewers but Fox tried to make the public think that all Republicans are dolts. I had thought better of them or maybe I'm seeing a problem where there isn't one.
Clipped wings posted on Blessings I feel blessed that I still have my wonderful husband, other half, with me. He was involved in an accident on 4/18/12. A truck lost control and ran into him. The BMW flipped twice and he was able to be pulled out...alive. His only injury, after the bruises, strains, airbag scrapes, etc, was a crushed knee. He will survive! Life will be difficult but manageable. When people ask, "Was anyone in the car with him?" we answer that God was riding with him.

Clipped wings posted on Coffee Klatch Just checking in on the Connection after almost 2 weeks away. Hubby had a car accident, lucky to be alive with ONLY a crushed knee. He is remarkable and I am weak. Needless to say, we found out firsthand why the local hospital has a bad reputation! After other Problems, oversights, overlaps or whatever, he is in the local rehab facility. It was top notch in WWII. Crowded, old, but the staff is excellent. Hoping he can endure to get the rehab he needs to be able to come home. Prayers with a bit of booze sustain the care-giving person at the moment.

Clipped wings By the way, if any of you wonderful folks are looking for ways to contribute ( such as UnitedWay, Red Cross, etc. ) other than to your political project, you might want to look at your local rehab/nursing home facilities. If yours are like this, they could use any help from the community.

Yottyhere Sorry to read about your husbands accident CW. Hope he does endure the rehab and returns home ASAP
Our local hospital is not very good either. Certainly not for any dire emergency. Luckily we can reach good care just a few more miles up the road.
Nugoddess Hope your Hubs gets well soon, CW. Rehab is tough, especially with knees - I'll keep you in my prayers.

Clipped wings Simply put, they said that a convergence of events such as the economy, riots, etc. within the States might bring on martial law. That it might not be from beyond the borders. The military and law enforcement are trained and prepared for this. This person felt that the time would possibly be within the next 60 days. There are always alarmists, but when we see the escalating racial friction, the high and going higher cost of gas, unemployment, and summer coming on I begin to wonder if there is some basis.
