Evajeanne posted on Sports All I can say now is that I'm glad I didn't post anything silly when the Braves were at the top of their Division. 8 losses in a row. I'm heartsick for them.

Ole buzzard I can't figure it out either, outside of the fact that Ross, McCann, Freeman and Jones have all been down with injuries at some point during this stretch, but hey, the rest of them get paid to step up.

Rake King Keep the faith you two. We're a month from the All-Star break. Last night you got our Cards inspite of Molina's efforts. That relief guy of the Braves who ended the game was awesome.

Ole buzzard Yes, but we're talking about the NL East where EVERY team has a winning record, and only three games separate 1st and 5th place. Every game, especially those in the division, is crucial.

Rake King Rams traded two times (down ), and while they have gotten more picks, none will be top rated. As for Miami picking the Texas A & M QB, their new coach, coached him in college...thus he is a known quantity...or at least that's what they said.

Evajeanne posted on Sports My friend, who lives in Indianapolis and whose son works for the Patriots, sent me some pictures he took from downtown Indy this weekend. It all looks very exciting, but I had to laugh. Looking at all 26 pics that he sent, you'd think there was only 1 team playing! He also said he'll be lucky if he gets to see his son at all before game day. I've toned down my pro-Giants rhetoric in our emails out of respect for family ties, but geez, he has absolutely NO objectivity whatsoever anymore. I don't have a dog in this hunt. Normally, I'm an AFC gal, but I think the Giants will prevail. I could be wrong.

Struan Gotta go with Brady, Eva. Experience - he's done it before. And I've no dog in the fight either.

Rake King If the Pats have a better defense I could see them winning. However, the Giants played the toughest defense and won...barely. But the Pats were under the gun all day by the Raven's defense. Both offenses are very good, but both defense are not equal. I'm going with the Giants too.

Iacta alea est There's plenty to be said for experience. The Pats have 7 (I think ) players left from the 2007 team. The GIANTS have 15. The last two times these two tams have met, the GIANTS won. (Supe XLII & Nov.2011 ) Brady is an HOF'er for sure, but in the Supe's the Pats won, Vinateri kicked them to victory, Eli drove the GIANTS to a TD to win XLII. And right now, it can be objectively said that the GIANTS' defense is playing with a very hot hand. If Gronkowski is less than 100%, it's a big blow to the Pats' "O" because the GIANTS' safeties have given up some big plays to good TE's this season. (See Vernon Davis last week ) It's a cliche, but I think it's gonna come down to who has the ball last. GIANTS 30 Pats 27

Ole buzzard I really haven't given a lot of thought to this as, like everybody else, I don't have a dog here. Much as I hate to have to cheer for the team that beat the Packers, I think the Giants have the hot hand right now, and are peaking at the right time.

Rake King Well now we have two more in the pot for the Giants. Struan if real money changed hands, the money end would be in your favor...as the bookies do when the betting get too one sided. Interestingly, a lot of the news coming out of Indy is about Peyton, not Eli, as he & Ursey decide what is going to happen to his future. We'll see.

Struan One of the items kicking around here on Chicago sports radio is Indianaoplis trying to give home field advantage to the Giants, asking Indianaoplis fans to become Giants fans for a day in support of the Brothers Manning. Indeed, Rake - Peyton may never play again.

Evajeanne Rake King, I've noticed that as well as far as the media is concerned. Even the New York papers have been low key so far. Yesterday, the NY Post had an article comparing the suits both QBs wear (designers, costs, cut, etc. ) Okay, okay, I read it (Brady wears $500 shirts! ) lacta makes good points. The number of players returning from each team as compared to 2007 was one of the first things I looked at as well. Struan's point about coaching experience also got heavy consideration. OB, painful as it is to root for the Giants, you want the team that beat yours to win. I think it makes the pain easier to say you lost to the Super Bowl Champs. (I could be kidding myself about that ).

Rake King What a great career Peyton has had, and I certainly would not encourge him to play again if he could become disabled. What a terrible end to be left that way. He has been a credit to the game, and as my Dad used to say, "I have a lot of respect for someone who knows when he's had enough". I will say this, the $28 million bonus is obscene, and a major part of the story. I would say to Peyton, that money will be little comfort if you sit in a wheelchair the rest of your life. Let hope Peyton make the right decision.

Clipped wings Glad you are back Rk. Most of us felt like sleeping in the second half since it was rather boring. Not at all the game we had anticipated. We expected the Tide to come with a great battle plan and execute it well. We had expected LSU to do something, just about anything.

Rake King I wonder why the LSU coach never played his other QB? I know Jefferson is a scrambler, but he wasn't successful...as the game turned out. I noted a couple Tide players and the QB for Baylor are not going to return and are putting themselves in the next NFL draft. They want the big money NOW, but they should remember life after football could use a degree.

Rake King I think the NCAA needs to step in on this skipping ahead matter, and the NFL, who has enough going for them to not need these kids to ruin their future without football. It amazes me in a time when all the talk is education and why aren't we doing better. The lure is "all" money, and that diminishes the sport and the players. All the NFL has do it say, "Not until you have finished your schooling".

Rake King Maybe our Rams coach are next. Our team is owned by Stan Kronke (A Walmart inlaw - he married Bud Walton's daughter, Sam's neice ). He also owns pro teams in Colorado, and the Arsenal soccer team in England. He designs shopping centers and leases them to Walmart/Sams Clubs. With his fortune, he should never have a looser. Although Steinbrenner wasn't always a winner.

Rake King He wants to be near more people who speak spanish, than in St. Louis. Of course 220,000,000.00+ doesn't hurt either. Once he gets too old to play everyday, by being in the American League he can be a DH. One of the sports writers think it's becuase he will be near Hollywood...for what that's worth. He will not go down as a Stan "The Man" Musial who played for a high salary of $100,000.00, and once cut his salary to help the team sign another player (not known by everyone ), and who is endeared here in St. Louis. After the hurt goes away, he will be forgotten in St. Louis.

Struan Every pitcher & manager in the National League is just plain giddy at the news. Not so much in the AL. No worries about another Musial, Rake. Even w/the expanded season & playoffs (more AB's per season ), the rabbit ball, HGH & cracker box stadiums, they'll never be another Stan. They simply don't make 'em like that no mo'.
December 8 at 13:40 EST .
|

| |
Rake King Struan: 10-4 on your Musial comments. Many St. Louis sports fans are crying in their beer, not because he left, but because he didn't look back. We'll see what the Cards management does with all the money that's left.
