FL Homeschool Mom posted on Pet Peeves  Does Microsoft sell our info? I have been bombarded with calls from "private number" and the person on the other end is definitely in India and claims to be calling on behalf of MS. I lost it the other morning when they woke me up (I was still sleeping due to the flu! ) and screamed that I'm on do not call list and to lose my bleeping number. I've thought about buying a call blocking system, but will it work if there's no number listed on the caller ID? Some of these callers will call 5-6 times a day from a different number every time.

Any ideas would be welcomed!

MeiDei  It's a scam - they tell you you have a terrible virus, worm or other and then they try to sell you their services to correct it. I think this group was once affiliated with a security company i.e., MacAfee or Norton. My guess is they left and took customer info with them.

FL Homeschool Mom posted on Main Page The Lobby  What do you guys think about Amendment 2 in Florida? (Legalizing medical marijuana )
Tuesday at 17:44 EST .

Gerty  It's the first step to total legalization.

Nice to see you posting Fl MOM!
Tuesday at 18:50 EST .

Surfhut  FL Mom, nice to see you again. I was born in 1954 and have seen how marijuana can ruin lives. I lived in SoCal when medical marijuana was determined legal and saw what a complete joke that became. However, I have known 2 very dear friends who had top-notch health care policies for whom marijuana was the only thing that let them have any quality of life during late stage cancer. It is a question you have to decide for yourself. Pray, dear FL MOM, and let the Lord guide you.

Hollyhock  Hi Fl Homeschool Mom. Good to see you post again. If you want to know about what the future holds for your state when medical marijuana is legal look to my state of Washington and to Colorado. Gerty is right. This is the first step. Now can sell recreational pot. Anything goes. The pot they grow now is nothing like what was available in the 60's. I was born in 1949 and I have seen plenty of lives wrecked that started with smoking pot.

Wrightwinger  There is a difference between using cannibis as a drug to treat illness, and allowing our kids unrestricted access. I deal with kids every day, and my experience is that regular users tend to fail classes, break a lot of rules and cause disruption of school, and frequently also abuse alcohol, and other drugs. They tend to do poorly in life until they can get weaned from the stuff. Probably not true for all, but in general this is what I observe. It is complex, because other issues intrude from organized crime, to gangs, to the judicial system. And home life must be factored in as well. The problem is like a Hydra... A lot of heads.

Hollyhock  Thank you WW for explaining better than I could. I was thinking about my post and was getting ready to delete it. I don't want to come across as a self righteous cranky old woman. The question is about medical marijuana for people suffering with disease and intolerable pain.
I care about the children who are exposed so early in life. They are our future.
Wednesday at 10:18 EST .

FL Homeschool Mom  It's a tough one. I suffer from stenosis, arthritis, and bulging discs. They keep changing laws on pain meds and at some point, I wonder if this will end up being our only option. I smoked the stuff 20+ years ago - don't really think I could again. The stuff out there now is way too strong.

Still on the fence.

FL Homeschool Mom posted on Politics  Hey strangers! Wanted to ask everyone what they think of Amendment 2 in FL? I'm a staunch conservative, but I'm leaning yes on this one. I deal with chronic pain from stenosis, bulging discs and arthritis in my back. I don't use marijuana, not sure I would ever use it, but I have a feeling chronic pain sufferers will have no choice but to go this route. I'm so sick of the DEA telling my doctor what medications I can take and doing their best to restrict and deny our medications.

What do you think?

FL Homeschool Mom posted on Pet Peeves  Parents at their kids' baseball games. I signed my son up to play travel ball for a season - will be the last time since the youngest wants to play t-ball in the spring and I can't split myself in 2 and travel all over central FL.

Anyway, at our last game on Saturday night, our kids were playing a Hispanic team. The parents were loud before the game even started and I suspect they were drinking. During the game they were yelling at our kids in Spanish and carrying on like they were at the World Series and not a kids baseball game. One of the Dads told us the following day about the obscenities that were being yelled and the words they used were truly disgusting. I can't understand why our coach didn't alert the umps about this and shut it down. He speaks Spanish and knew what they were saying.

Never again will I sign up to do travel ball. Most of those kids will be burned out and unable to throw by the time they reach HS. 10 year olds throwing curve balls! Some of the better teams end up playing 5 to 6 games a weekend.

One more month to go.

FL Homeschool Mom posted on Main Page The Lobby  There's a story on Drudge today that brought back an unpleasant memory from my childhood. There's video of a group of black kids bullying a poor little 3 year old girl. I remember back when I was 3 years old going to the playground during my brother's Cub Scout meeting and a group of black children surrounded me and started hitting and shoving me. The building where my Mom was seemed miles away as I escaped those awful kids. What exactly do their parents' teach them to bring out such hate?? I can't believe 40 years later I still remember that day so vividly. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b00_1377453339

Surfhut  There was a post a few days ago on the main site, written by Bryan Preston at PJ Media, about the mother of one of the teenagers arrested in the Oklahoma murder of the young man from Australia. His mother had a long rap sheet. She'd been a drug addict/dealer/criminal most of that guy's life. THAT is what parents who are themselves products of generations of parents just like them teach their children.

This happened to you 40 years ago, approximately 1973. The generational mindset started way before that. IMHO, tip of the iceberg.

FL Homeschool Mom posted on Coffee Klatch  Sorry I've been gone so long. A root kit (sp? ) virus took out my computer and I've had to use my Kindle for the web, unfortunately, it wouldn't allow me to post comments. Not sure why, but I'm back again.

I had a terrible depression from Thanksgiving until March. The second year is harder than the first and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I guess that's when reality sets in I just never felt so alone in my life.

I've started exercising every day and watching what I eat and it's helping to lift the fog. I've lost 20 lbs. -- bonus! I'll never give up on the exercising, it's better than any medication I could take.

I missed you guys!

Magdalene  FlMom, so good to see you! I had the darnedest time weaning off Cymbalta last year, the resulting depression was devastating. The only thing that helped at all was large doses of good natural B-complex vitamins. I'm much better now, but I still take them every day.

Balogreene  Glad you're back, and beginning another part of the recovery. 20 lbs is fantastic!

I would think (as a depressive ), depression is normal. My dad has been dead 15 years, he is in every dream I have. I see things in the store, and think of buying them for him. I don't get depressed, I expected him to go first. But, my mom, has such a time. Some days she's fine, some she gets melancholy. She never expected to outlive him by 15 years. Glad to hear you are dealing with it healthily.

Surfhut  Welcome back, FlMom! How wonderful is this, having you and Mags both back? Way wonderful!

From one widow to another, the bout of depression you experienced is not uncommon. Happened to me, too. But we survive! If you are like most of us, there will be moments from time to time when it hits you again and you bust out crying. Those moments are just moments and don't turn into something longish-term.

Wish Hikergal would drop in. She and I are both widowed somewhere near 5-1/2 years. She'll encourage you, too.

Anyway, welcome back! Surfie Smooch!

Gerty  Question: When did it happen that a little phrase like "my Joe" would bring tears to my eyes both bitter and sweet?!?

Lost is always bitter.

Love burning brightly between death and reunion is sweet IF we know that it is a nurturing flame. It gives light and hope to all of us who are separated from our loved ones. It provides the warmth of a knowledge that we will be reunited at a future time. In all good time determined by Our Lord.

We are genetically linked by our common God and Country.

FL Homeschool Mom posted on Pet Peeves  This is why I hardly ever post on the main site -- the people there are just plain rude. I made a comment about how I kill the snakes that get on my patio and this jerk goes ballistic on me. My pool/patio area is about 1800 sq ft screened in and it would take me hours to try and get a snake to go out the screen door. Not to mention the anxiety it would cause myself and my kids since I'm terrified of snakes to begin with -- no matter how big or small. Relocating snakes was Gerry's job, so I have to do it however I can. I'm done commenting on here -- I'll stick with my friends.

"Reply 29 - Posted by: Flybynight, 1/14/2013 8:16:52 AM (No. 9115232 )

I'm all for getting rid of pythons in south Florida, but the poster bragging of killing beneficial and harmless snakes makes me sad. There is just no lower limit to stupidity, is there? Even the most phobic dimwit could shoo a rat snake away with a broom, and a black racer is generally headed quickly in the opposite direction as soon as it perceives a threat. Guess theposter prefers to be overrun with mice and rats. So foolish."

Rollingcow  I know exactly what you mean! I rarely post on the mothersite any more, people have gotten rude and downright mean over there. If you don't agree with their opinion you must be a troll, lib or just stupid. Catching a snake takes work and they don't always stay outside where you put them, I've had the darn things crawl right back into the house and I know quite a few women (yes, and men ) who kill them on sight if they are in the house so you just go a head do what you need to. Wonder how the poster would like it if one came crawling out from under his/her chair while watching television some night? Love to have a video of that.

BirdsNest  Snakes are not allowed on this property. If I see one I kill it and ask what kind it is later. Our parrots are frightened of snakes no matter what kind they are. It causes them to thrash about in their cages and could causes injury or death. We are not breeding them for sale, these are all parrots we have had for years and it is our duty to care for them in a meaningful way. Years ago when we first moved here I found a snake in a nesting box , it had just eaten the beautiful English Budgie hen that was sitting on eggs. I won't repeat the misery I put that snake through, let's just say that Hagar mentioned that he never wanted to pizz me off. No snakes. No mice. No spiders. No possums. Anything that tries to harm our animals will have a tough way to go.(I got slapped by the bad word filter )

BirdsNest  An acquaintance of ours is a vegetarian. A couple of years ago she had an infestation of mice and was in a pickle about what to do. Havahart trap and release? Hagar just laughed at her and told her to put her "big girl" pants on and get some bait or traps and kill the little critters or they would over run her place and she would be miserable. She did and whined about it for weeks. Hagar just laughed. She just refuses to listen to good advise. When she calls and asks advise, many times after talking with her and giving sage advise, Hagar just stops her and asks "what answer are you looking for? Let's make this simple for me."

Balogreene  No Gram, it's not just you. It's not just calling other posters names that bothers me. It's the names some people call liberals, politicians, celebrities and others who disagree with them. It is childish and rude. We should never stoop to name calling. Bob Hope, Will Rogers and Mark Twain successfully skewered people without name calling and insults, just gentle humor. And I was always taught "stupid" is a bad word.

Just as an aside I won't even touch a picture of a snake :D
