It's a movie and too easy for a clue.

   HopeandGlory  Yes to Storm also.

When the Quiz with O'Brien and Chill Wills came up a few days ago, I realized I hadn't seen the movie in a while, so when I happened to see it at the library this week I checked it out. It didn't disappoint, it's still a great musical. Loved the scene with the kids "Trick or Treating." . . . Boo!

HopeandGlory posted on Movies & Reviews  OK! I've just got time to get one more in before we go walk at 7.
We re-watched this classic last night, it's amazing how much has been forgotten when you haven't seen said movie for a few years.
Below are the cast of characters:

Stanley Baker
Jack Hawkins
Michael Caine
James Booth
Ulla Jacobsson
Nigel Green
and a cast of thousands

I can't believe this movie is 50 years old . . . it was great.

StormCnter  One more comment. Whenever I see Jack Hawkins mentioned, I remember the moment on live television (Studio One? Playhouse 90? ) when Hawkins bobbled a line, then broke character by turning to the camera and apologizing. It was a very human moment. He was married to Jessica Tandy before Hume Cronyn landed her.

HopeandGlory posted on Movies & Reviews  A couple of nights ago, Hubby and I watched the remake of this great Western.
Listed below are the stars. Name that movie:

Sam Elliot
Kurt Russell
Val Kilmer
Bill Paxton
Charlton Heston
Joanna Pascula

This should be a slam dunk for this crowd . . . Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Michael Redgrave
Richard Todd

George Baker
Patrick McGoohan

and ten extra points if you can correctly name the dog.

HopeandGlory  Ok! couple of clues before I go up the "wooden hill." This British War movie is based on the memoirs of Wing Commander Guy Gibson and involves a lot of water.

The dog is a Chocolate Lab.

MeiDei  Bit of trivia about the dog's name....I think it was changed for American audiences, or was supposed to be.
August 18 at 10:56 EST .

  2 people like this.

HopeandGlory  You're very possibly right. In 1955's England when the movie was made the name wasn't very controversial, PC hadn't taken hold but I imagine today that's changed in England also. Wing Commander Guy Gibson's dog was called N-$$-r. Sorry if this offends today; in the 1940's it didn't.

Windy City
The Black Hills of Dakota
Secret Love

and also name the two stars.

MeiDei  I remember Doris Day singing "once I had a secret love, that lived within the heart of me..now I shout it from the highest hills, even told the golden daffodils..." Is that close??
Gordon MacCrae maybe?
August 15 at 22:11 EST .

  3 people like this.

HopeandGlory  Yes, very close . . . Doris is one of the stars and she sings "Secret Love" in this movie. Can you name the movie and the other star, he's not Gordon MacRae.
August 15 at 22:17 EST .

  3 people like this.

MeiDei  Nope! : ) Male singers/actors: outside of Roy Rogers, MacRae, Howard Keel & a tall, dark guy whose name escapes me, I run a blank (well George Strait & Clint Black excepted but they weren't born back then ). Let's wait for someone else to answer. Movie a blank too.

HopeandGlory  The Dude gets the movie and MeiDei gets the girl and also inadvertantly the guy as she did name Howard Keel. It's interesting about the slight, I'd never heard that.

MeiDei  So. Dakota still feels slighted, the oil field boom to their north is overshadowing, what many believe, their own oil reserves. Closing access to Mt. Rushmore during the sequester was also a very sore spot.
