HopeandGlory  You're correct Rita played Tuptim and Carlos Rivas played Lun. He was also in the original "True Grit" and also "Topaz." He was born Oscar von Weber in El Paso Texas Sept. 16 1925.

StormCnter  Gertrude Lawrence originated the role on Broadway, I'm not sure Julie Andrews ever played Anna on stage, but a slew of other actresses have done so. Even Marie Osmand (!!! ). I'm looking forward to reading the new book "Masked" about Anna Leonowens.

Richdet  Thank goodness we got Deborah Kerr and not Julie Andrews in "The King and I." Irene Dunne and Rex Harrison starred in the very interesting nonmusical version of the same story in "Anna and the King of Siam" in the mid-40s. Would recommend that. Jodie Foster did another nonmusical version of it in the late 90s, which I have never seen. My guess is it is very PC, hence my lack of interest.

MeiDei  Ah, you're right - I was 10 or 11 when I saw the King & I with Yul Brenner. I remember his stage "presence" as being the end all. Julie I saw in My Fair Lady & later in Camelot with Richard Burton (? ) that's fuzzy too. But since I've already taken my 3 spins with Yul I can't give them back : )

Richdet  Definitely Richard Burton as King Arthur in the Broadway "Camelot." And surely you recall Robert Goulet as Lancelot? I remember them all turning up on The Ed Sullivan Show periodically doing numbers from "Camelot." And I remember a pal's mother owned the album of the Broadway show, and hearing her play it at his house.

But get this. I also clearly recall seeing Burton and Liz Taylor sometime in the later 60s singing "What Do the Simple Folk Do?" on some musical show, maybe Ed Sullivan again. Liz Taylor as Guinevere, for about 3 minutes.

Iacta alea est  There is a documentary, show sometimes on the American Heroes Channel (nee The Military Channel ) also titled 'Sink the Bismark". And let me tell you, it is a fascinating story. Well worth anyone's time. It even has an interview with the only (then ) living crewman of HMS Hood. (Only 3 out of over 1000 crewmen survived Bismark's sinking of HMS Hood ) Do check it out if you come across it.
