Nashville

Nashville posted on The Range 2nd Amendment  Took 5 weeks and and about $250, today in my mailbox was my Handgun Carry Permit.
I did the first day ritual. XD40 in a CrossBreed SuperTuk holster, and a trip to Wal-Mart. Spent an hour in the store and had no worries. I have had the gun 'on me' at home for a week and wife and daughter have not noticed.
One of every 16 people in Tennessee have a carry permit, proud to be one of them.

Nashville posted on Main Page The Lobby  Cost of a carry permit.

I posted this question on the Springfield XD Talk site.

The average of 28 States I have info for is about $150.

Texas ( for all the crap we have to read how great it is ) is the high end winner at $330 for a CCW permit.
Arizona and Wyoming are the low end at ZERO $ for a permit.

Yeah! RIGHT!!!!

ALynnMcW  The state fee is $140. The cost of the 10 hour training class to complete the application is variable across the state. Haven't seen anything higher in Harris County than $100. So $240 max plus your ammo and gun rental if you don't have one. A little pricey but classes are booked up for weeks in advance and there is a backlog at the state getting the apps processed. Of course the thugs don't bother.

ALynnMcW  Interesting fact. There are more people in Harris county Texas than the entire state of Wyoming.

Nashville posted on The Range 2nd Amendment  Started my carry permit journey today.
I took the 'class' at my local range. Nashville Armory, $95.
I then took my paperwork to a State Safety Office, filled out more paperwork and gave them $115.
I get fingerprinted on Thursday.
I will let you Tennessee L-Dotters know how long it all takes to actually get your permit.
The test was 30 true/false and mulitiple choice questions, I think most people would pass without 4 hours of class. Then 50 practice rounds on the range, followed by 50 to qualify. I think the target was at 3,5 and 7 yards. Everyone ( 24 people ) passed, including about 6 that had never fired a handgun before.

Nashville  FYI, plan on $1000++ to carry a gun.
$700++ for the handgun.
$210 for permit.
$90 goes for ammo and a really cheap holster.
Starting from no gun....budget $2000 for this journey, you need to put many dollars of ammo 'downrange' when you first buy a gun.

Ole buzzard  How's that "shall not be infringed" part working out for you?

Good grief!!

At least here in Georgia, our county sheriff provided the training, free, no written test, permit was $30 for the probate court, and $51.50 for the fingerprints.

I have now completed all the steps.
Now I wait or my permit to find my mailbox,

Nashville posted on The Range 2nd Amendment  40SW and 9mm are not to be found here in Nashville
I have been to 3 Wally Worlds and one big 'outdoor' place.
Nothing but empty shelves. The Wally World near me had ONE
box of 25 22cal LR and ONE box of 16ga shotgun, that was all!

Liberal like Jefferson  When I bought my first rifle and handguns after the 2008 election, I woke up to the problem or scarce ammunition as well. I waited for supplies to basically return to normal after a couple years, then, over a period a few months, bought 8,000 rounds of ammunition. I standardized on 9mm for our handguns - all my handguns are chambered in 9mm. I buy 7.62x39mm (Russian short ) for the rifle.

I buy in bulk - 1000 round bricks from a reputable online dealer. Now, I'm just sitting out this latest round of shortages. I learned in 2008 I can't rely on the big retailers or gun stores to have what I need when I need it. Your gun without ammunition is a paperweight.

Liberal like Jefferson  I recall CTD gouging back in '08. I don't use them any more. www.ammoman.com Eric is the best. Free shipping direct to your door - if legal. No state tax. Great service (although he's slammed like everyone else these days ). Here where I live, they make me show my ID to the delivery person and sign at the door for my Wine-of-the-Month club selections. They'll just leave a brick of ammo on my doorstep.

Nashville  Jefferson, I was @ CTD last night and you are correct, they were selling 40SW for over $1 per round. When the dust settles I will stock up, have 800 rounds and feel like I'm just getting started. Thinking about a Cal-Tec sub 2000 in 40 so I only have to stock one cal...If I get the 9mm conversion for my handgun, who knows...

New in box Henry .22 Golden Boy and a .32 Tarus pocket pistol. I have a .40 Springfield XD and a 150 year old .58 Civil War rifle...The Henry was toooo much fun to shoot and sight in, I guess we put 200 rounds thru it. The .32 pocket pistol was nothing more than a firecracker, we both were everywhere but close to the center of the target. The .40 SW XD we both had very tight groups! The .58 is always fun to bring out, shoot it once and everybody at the range stops and wants to know...'what was that'...Shot the .58 six times, we both were inside the 8 ring every time. .22 to .58 that is a fun day!

Ole buzzard  Nashville, I'm in the business, so maybe I can help. As my business phone, I have a Motorola Droid 3, but my personal phone is an iPhone 4. The Android operating system allows true multitasking, but that can lead to freeze ups if the user doesn't monitor what is running on the device. The iPhone, OTOH, only multitasks the iPod function and is much less prone to freeze ups. It has been my experience with both operating systems, however, that most problems are caused by user error. This is where the iPhone distinguishes itself. It is less prone to let the operator make an error.

Bob913  I have 4 co-workers with an iPhone. I and 3 others in the same office have android phones. I have a Droid X 3g. I easily tether it to my laptop or desktop pc for internet service (Easy Tether using usb cable ). I can root my phone (have admin access. I used DroidXRoot ) and get rid of all the unnecessary bloatware and ads from the phone. Extend the battery life too. I can even have an iPhone theme!!

Get a droid. http://tinyurl.com/839vq9z

I suggest buying a refurbished one. I got my Verizon Droid X for $0 dollars . I was planning on buying it for $49 but I was a new customer and Verizon gave it to me. Not a scratch on it. I got 2. Sprint has similar offers. Get a 4g phone! The speeds are faster then many cable internet connections. Wish I had a 4g phone but I was cheap and there is no 4g yet where I work.

Loosbolt  I have read that Sprint is one of the most prolific of cell phone companies utilizing the controversial Carrier IQ software on their phones. They now claim they have "disabled" their ability to pull data from customer's phones ( http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technolo
gy/2011/12/sprint-says-it-has-stopped-pu
lling-carrier-iq-info-from-phones.html
)

Another thing to keep in mind is applications ("apps", small applications designed to do really nifty things on your phone very much like computer programs ) uploaded to the Android market which are then made available for download to consumers are not vetted or screened for malware, viruses or any other nasties. Google (Android's mommy ) will eventually pull an app if enough people complain but otherwise it is definitely caveat emptor when dealing with Android apps.

Apple on the other hand screens every app before allowing a developer to upload it to their store. That said there have been some Apple apps that have made it past the vetting process that were later yanked but those numbers are miniscule.

Just adding to what others have stated for what it's worth : )

Mikkins2  Before I go on I want to declare I work for a company that sells the Galaxy S2.

That being said of all the android phones I have owned, which is several, I without a doubt will say the Galaxy S2 is the best phone I have ever had. I love the Kies Air app because I transfer a lot of files between my puter and phone. Living where I do in Maine I only have access to Edge/2G data signal most of the time but usually I am in range of wifi at home so the ability to grab and hold wifi signal is important to me. And it does this very well compared to the other phones I have had. Just my 2 cents worth.

Surfhut  the site has livestream from the OWS protests. I clicked on the NYC and watched Naomi Wolf being arrested. Watching the livestream gives a whole new perspective on how crazy and potentially dangerous this thing is.

There were large numbers of police lining the area of sidewalk where this small "event" took place. Hope the good people of NYC realize what this is costing them tax money-wise.

Clipped wings  Always love it when the SEC shines. Even poor old TN got soooo close to a win (just fortunate to get to a bowl). Always folks complain about the SEC but look at the complete depth. In the South, football is an obsession. Depression sets in when the bowl season ends, the recruiting is mostly over and the draft is finished. Days are counted until the Spring games and then until the season kickoff.
