Pinocchio, Snow White, and Superman are out for a stroll in town one day. As they walk, they come across a sign: "Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world."
"I am entering" said Snow White. After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, "Well, how'd ya do? " First Place ," said Snow White.
They continue walking and they see another sign: "Contest for the strongest man in the world."
"I'm entering," says Superman. After half an hour he returns and they ask him, "How did you make out?" " First Place ," answers Superman.
Once again they continue walking and come upon another sign: "Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the world?"
Pinocchio enters. After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes. "What happened?" they asked.

CK and Mrs. Cow; you two are a riot! I will remember that next time my hubby avoids needed home repair. ; ) Also, thank you CK, I'm always grateful for prayers!
This has been a fun day connecting with Connection friends on Facebook! 7Gentexmom, Magdalene and Hikergal have all 'be-friended' me, which is so nice! I love putting faces to friends from TheConnection! Another friend of ours, Froggy, has her own blog site now. http://frogfeet2012.blogspot.com In case you haven't stopped by, please check this out. She has a lot to say and I found the articles she posted to be fascinating!
Hollyhock I've never tried to join facebook. I don't know what to expect. Now I am seeing people are unjoining.
I looked at Froggy's blog. She was very creative and put a lot of work into it.

Evajeanne Hollyhock, I was beginning to think I was the only one who has resisted FB. I just feel as though I'm already spending too much time on the computer, so I'm going to hold out as long as possible. Of course, I've added Froggy's new site to my list and she actually posted a pic of my cat, Puffin on it. I'm so honored! Puffin just yawned when I told him, though.

Texastealady I really enjoy FB - I've met friends I'd never have met otherwise in the UK, Canada, Australia & South Africa. I would never have joined until Ms.L took us there - I thought it was just for kids but it depends on your interests & hobbies. For example: As an animal lover, I discovered a Website called WildEarth.TV that hosts live African safaris in Djuma, South Africa. They also have live cams in wildlife areas - a favorite is Pete's Pond - you might see only birds or lions, leopards, elephants, a monitor, etc. On WE I met the sweetest 'friend' in Canada who is always upbeat despite having Polycystic Kidney Disease. Three yrs ago, she met another lady across the country and though they've never met in person one is donating her kidney to the other. Check out "Sidney the Kidney" on FB. Shelley tells the story and the surgery is scheduled in Seattle on Aug. 23rd. I'm in awe of these two. I also met a friend when Lucianne was on FB. She is a Messianic Jew who introduced me to Ariel Ministries - a comprehensive Bible study of Christianity for Jews and Christians and a new appreciation for Israel. It's Ariel.org for anyone interested. I could go on..........

7generationTexmom Hiker, I'm thrilled that you post lots on FB. My liberal friend's rants make me so mad. Maybe they'll see them.

Paget51 I like Facebook because it helps me keep up with friends and their families. I love all the pictures that they share. My kids and their friends also post a lot. We are all so busy, it is a quick way for me to see at a glance if anything new is going on, then I just choose to respond...or not. I just hide people who do liberal rants. I'm looking forward to Hikergal's postings and the rest of you who care to join in. : )

MsCharlotteVale I was told by a dear friend that something I posted wasn't what FB was all about. Most of my "friends" wouldn't recognize me if they fell on me and I spent too much time deleting obscene postings by my late husband's grandchildren. Most people I went to school with don't care anything about me. I was mainly reading postings from people who don't know me to other people who I don't know. People who really care about my day-to-day activities can find me or not. As for pictures, people who really care about me send me actual pictures I can put into a frame. The bottom line is that I've never been popular and that sort of rubs me the wrong way. Maybe I should LOL. Okay. (Actually, at my age, I'm hip to reality for the most part. )

MsCharlotteVale I went to an uncle's funeral last December and his son said to me, "Gosh, we need to get together." I said, "Yes, I'd love to." I've never heard from him even though he lives 20 minutes away and he's a FB "friend." That's sort of what FB is about. As I said, people who care about me write, email or call. I like more depth from people.

MsCharlotteVale I also realized that many people on FB don't read anything important and they haven't the first clue as to how govt works if they even care or vote. They know what they want and they pass on every idiot idea they hear. Oh, and most people on my FB can't spell, can't proofread and can't pass on a coherent thought. There, I'm done now.
Paget51 posted on Suggested Reading I just finished reading the most interesting book. It is 'Before I go to Sleep', by S.J. Watson. The main character, Christine, lost her memory in a horrific accident. She is in her 40's, but awakes each morning without any memory beyond her teen years. Her husband, Ben, has to explain her life history to her every day. Once she goes to sleep at at night she forgets everything. It is cycle that repeats itself everyday. She has just started seeing a new psycologist, and is making some remarkable progress, and that is where the story begins. It was haunting, and full of intrigue. I found it hard to put down. : )

Paget51 posted on Coffee Klatch Hello everybody! So sorry Mrs.Cow and Mrs. Calf and so many of you are suffering from the heat wave. :( Here in WA state it's kind of a cool summer. I've been working in two areas this month and am a bit ragged. Mom's birthday is next week and it is a big one as she'll be 85. I feel brain dead, as I can't think of something special for her gift. I'm not the seamstress in the family; she is! Any ideas for a gift? I'm thinking of a card with a few pictures of her over the years. She is a wonderful lady and I love her so much! : )

Betty Jean How blessed you are! If you're thinking of pictures, how about one of those frames with several openings for pictures and do it that way? Happy B'day to Paget's lovely mum.

Hikergal For my Mom's 85th we all got together with our favorite things she made and put on a show for her.Over her lifetime she made sweaters, dresses, rugs, stained glass, quilts, paintings, porcelain dolls, craft items and more.My BIL a professional photographer took pictures of each one and made an album . The show took up a 220 room and didn't have nearly everything maybe less than 1% of what she made. My sister also a photog took pictures of the family and used one f those viewers that flipp thru pictures ( you can get them at walmart ) and that sits next to her chair so she has a constantly changing picture of us and that day.

Evajeanne Pictures, pictures, pictures. You can never go wrong with pictures, in my opinion. I wish I could have shared a milestone bday with my Mom. She died in Jan. 2000 at the age of 74.

Rollingcow My mother loved pictures as well. She was only 69 when we lost her just before the Calf got married. She gave Mrs. Calf her wedding rings and although one of the bands broke, Mrs. Calf still has them. I'd go with pictures, the changing one they sell at Walmart is really nice. One of my cousin's has one with pictures of all her kids and grandkids on it that way no one can say they're the favorite. Mrs. Cow

Paget51 Thanks, ladies! You guys are the greatest! I truly am blessed to still have both my parents! : ) (Maybe I put this on the wrong wall! ) I appreciate all your suggestions and will get busy with the changing wall frame idea. Mom would love that! :D
Today we had a big family dinner at our house. Hubby BBQed spare ribs and roasted corn on the cob, and I made a version of Mag's taragon shrimp pasta salad. It was a hit! I was kind of leery, as I'm not good at judging amounts 'to taste' for new recipes, but I was relieved that it turned out so well. I'd like to taste her original recipe someday; I'm sure it is wonderful!
I also made Robin Benzle's ice cream sandwich torte cake for dessert, and it was good and easy to make. My favorite type of recipe!
We're going to have a quiet day tomorrow, and just relax and reflect on how thankful we are to be Americans. I wish all of you a safe and happy 4th. God bless you all!

Hikergal Sound wonderful!I just roasted my usual chicken and veggies on the barbi but I used 7-up instead of DR. Pepper
Magdalene Paget, I am honored that you used my recipe for your feast, personalized as it should always be! I made a batch yesterday for today's feast here, with imitation crab the way hubs likes it. It was to have sat untouched in the frig, but I see somehow the cover has been messed with. I suspect it may have been violated. Here's to Independence!

Paget51 posted on Coffee Klatch What are your plans for the fourth? We're celebrating early, with a family BBQ on Sunday. We're inviting my whole family, and this time it is all on us. It's our 'thank-you' for all their help at daughter's wedding last month. : )
I am cheating on the menu. I'll be stopping at Costco for fruit & veggie platters, but I'm going to try my hand at Mag's Shrimp salad, and hope I do it justice! DH will BBQ spare ribs and hebrew franks ( for the kids ) I just need to come up with an easy summer dessert, and we'll be set. : )

FL Homeschool Mom We're going to try to get the kids pool up (Intex ) before they drive me to the loony bin. I'll probably make some potatoe salad and have burgers and hot dogs. I need to get one of our memory tapes out and play the Declaration of Independence.

BeatleJeff The army post I work on is having a festival in the evening with bands and concessions and concluding with fireworks. We'll take a blanket and some chairs out there to enjoy the celebration. We'll probably spend the afternoon beforehand lounging at our community pool.

Rollingcow Not sure what the young ones are doing, but Mr. Cow and I will be spending the day working on the front porch. Probably watch some John Wayne later. I'm not much for fireworks-too loud for me nowdays. We'll just enjoy being Americans. Mrs. Cow

Linder I would love to stay home with Gramps and quietly enjoy the holiday but got an email from the Rep. candidate for congress and he asked for volunteers in two parades in our county. He is a good conservative congressman who has been thrown into a district with a big time lib congressman who claims to be conservative when it serves his purpose (always votes with the libs ) and so I am going to go to both parades and do whatever I am asked to do.
June 29 at 19:48 EST .
Paget51 Mrs. Cow, I agree. I don't care much for amateur fireworks displays. On the 4th I will hang around home and make sure the local yokels don't burn down the neighborhood. But I will listen to the Michael Medved show, as he will likely play one of his patriotic tapes. : )
This is not what you might think it is; prisoners doling out their form of 'justice' on disgusting perverts who molest children. This is the 'good guys'; the guards, etc. who decide to pick on someone whose views are different from their own. No one deserves to be treated like this! The article is only a page long, and congress has written a law to stop this. However, our do nothing attorney general has refused to sign it.

MsCharlotteVale Prison authorities who turn a blind eye to rape are the same ones who turn a blind eye to drugs, gangs and every other type of criminal activity. No one deserves to be raped. If you've been sentenced to prison, that's your punishment.

Gerty Quite right, Miss Charlotte--"No one deserves to be raped."
But the reality of the day is that a prison sentence--no matter the length of time or the severity of the crime--carries with it a *de facto* sentence of rape. Barbarians have rape rooms. We hold our breaths in horror when we hear this. Yet we allow our prison guards and even our AJ to turn a blind eye to this practice. Rape is an act of violence, rage and hate--where is our outrage to this?
