Tivadoc posted on The Range 2nd Amendment I have been looking for a lever action .22LR. I've always been a Marlin fan and own several of their centerfire lever guns. I just bought this Henry Golden Boy and it's a thing of beauty. Crisp and smooth action, great fit and finish, the wood is actually quite nice as well. Out of the box the whole family hit a Pepsi can at 50 yards. They are hard to find and list over $500. "The worlds greatest outfitter" has them on sale for $399.00. Very well made in America and worth the price.

Tivadoc posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters This Ferrous, our now 4 month old lab. He is coming along nicely and loves water retrieves the best. He is completely bonded to my wife and absolutely lives for her. I love his red color, he is classified as a yellow variant by the AKC, but I am resigned to a lifetime of questions when we are out. I introduced him to Ldot community here back in April when we brought him home and thought I update was due. Here is Ferrous in the pachysandra.

Yottyhere Such a handsome young pup. And such a beautiful color. And yup people are going to always question you about Ferrous because he is so gorgeous. I know, if I saw him in the flesh I would be asking permission to pet him and all sorts of other questions :D

Tivadoc Mrs. Cow, it would be an honor to hunt with any dog of yours. I remain a loyal fan of your commentary both here and at the mother site. However, if one more person asks me if that pup is a Vizsla I just might give in and reply "Yes"! it would be easier than the explanation.

Rollingcow He doesn't look like a Vizsla to me, of course I spent years at dog shows and each breed looks pretty different to me. I hate people who ask me if one of my Sheltie kids is 'a toy Collie'. Ain't no such critter. Mrs. Cow

Tivadoc posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters Update on Ferrous, the lab at 12 weeks. He's doing very well, rings a bell to go out and is a munching machine at all other times! The furniture is safe thanks to constant supervision and a fortune in rawhide and other "chewables" Went swimming over the weekend without hesitation. Working now on sit, stay and come commands and he's a quick study. Retriever work once the fundamentals are solid.

Tivadoc posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters Introducing the newest member of our family, a male fox red labrador retriever named Ferrous. He's 8 weeks old today and just a blessing to have. His unusual color is a dark spectrum of yellow and the hazel eyes are heart breakers. I hope to share some more pictures as we watch him mature into a gorgeous adult male labrador retriever.

Rollingcow What a handsome boy! I had it in mind to get the grandkids a Lab, such sweet dogs with a great tolerance for the rough and tumble of children, but The Calf thought a Lab would be too big for their house. I hope he brings you as much joy as Gus and Cosmo have brought us. Mrs. Cow

Yottyhere WHoaaaaaaaaaa I have never seen a fox red lab before and this picture is beyond handsome!! We have had lots of retrievers over the years. Blacks and chocolates, goldens and chesapeakes, not to mention all the retriever-mixs too. And they all have been such wonderful pets. So loving and smart. I truly love his face and swoon at his coloring AND hazel eyes too!! What a dream... Major congrats. Give him a hug from AuntieYotty!

Escaped commieny Wow my rescue is a year now, pure black everywhere but the white cross on her chest. I need to hear from other Lab owners, Molly Mayhem is in a fenced yard, I couldn't walk her if I tried, she has dug holed to china, very gentle and well behaved but she gets bored and digs up roots and old stumps. I knew Beagles were 'different' and Shiloh knows the rules, but not sure how to keep missy happy ?????

Tivadoc She sound unemployed and bored. Labs are working dogs and they need a job. If you are unable to walk her perhaps you can capitalize on her retrieving instincts. Sit in a lawn chair in your fenced in yard and throw tennis balls for her. It really dosen't matter how far, she will chase that thing and bring it back to you until she's exhausted. If you have space the pet stores carry a tennis ball flinger that greatly increases your distance. A tired dog is a happy dog and not prone to digging holes.

Escaped commieny I figured she was bored, I was wondering about a kiddie pool and a tether ball pole, sounds silly, but when we lived north we had quadrunners and took the 'kids' out in the woods. Can't get near water here in Fl w/dogs because of the gators. She has tennis balls but gets distracted by the cat birds. After being #289 in a cage at animal control she loves her yard but I still need to get her a 'job', so any other ideas?

Escaped commieny PS, your new baby is gorgeous. 30yrs ago someone threw puppies out on the NY Thruway, DH stopped, picked up the live one,our 14oz. Amberglo, a Cheasapeake Retriever, that I had to feed with powdered bitches milk, we had her for 13 years and she was that color (and another one that went from less than a pound to over 100! )

Tivadoc posted on The Range 2nd Amendment I finally broke down and bought a scary black rifle, the Smith & Wesson M&P 15 in .223. I bought it because today I can and I fear that could change. It is a very sweet weapon and a marvel of engineering. It also has a purpose: Be afraid groundhogs, be very afraid.

Ole buzzard I priced one. Very interesting. I wonder if I might be able to find one of these in my future. I would use mine on armadillos.

Tivadoc posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters RIP Sophie 5-6-92 - 3-21-12 Accomplished and titled field dog who retired to be the best house dog you could wish to own. Kind and loving right up to the end. Her loss is heartbreaking to our family, especially our two boys because she's the only dog they have ever known. I'm posting this picture from 2008 when she was happy and healthy here to celebrate her life with people who know and appreciate dogs. I have been in this position before and it's never easy. This is the price I must pay for her unconditional love all those years and I pay it as an honor and privilege. Thank you for letting me say goodbye here.

Rollingcow We lost our goofy and sweet Fitz last week so I know exactly where you are. Losing our 'babies' is always so tough that it makes me wonder just why we fall for another and bring them home.Guess it's a matter of having a dog shaped hole that needs to be filled. I'll be sending prayers of comfort your way. Mrs. Cow

Hikergal I like to think of the ones I've lost doing their favorite thing. There's Toby a wonderful lab who loved duck season but who's greatest joy was catching loose hens and returning them to the pen or retrieving the eggs. So many more . I know how you feel and the biggest honor you gave Sophie was sharing your joy and sorrow in her with us.

Balogreene Tivadoc, once when I asked my father how you can keep getting pets when it hurts so much to lose them. He said "That is the price I pay for the unconditional love, and pure joy they bring. I gladly pay it, to give them a safe home, and love back." I too have lived by that motto, as do many here. It took me back to hear you echo the greatest man I ever knew. My sympathies for you and your kids.

Let's all try to be thankful for our own blessings in this life, tomorrow is promised to no one and I tell myself that every day.
