Surfhut  I don't think the shirts are available now. If memory recalls, it was a one-time special offer produced by an Ldot fan. Shimmer, go to the main page to find Lucianne contacts. Ask the appropriate contact about the shirts.

Love my shirt. I only wear it on special occasions: election day, 4th of July, Veterans' Day, etc.

Shimmer128  I used to have a Ldot bumper sticker on my car. I had it made for me at a local t shirt shop, how i loved my bumper sticker (and I am NOT a bumper sticker person! )
It had the eagle head imposed on the flag and my username in the middle of a circle. I can't remember the details. but it wore off some and I sold the car and it's just gone. sigh. I need a vinyl sticker

Shimmer128 posted on Main Page The Lobby  I had the day planned out. Spend it alone, go out to lunch, see a movie. Get through the day. At the last minute, a friend invited me over to her house with lots of family and LOTS of delicious food. Then I told them that I had heard of this free tree lighting/concert with Pentatonix and the Isley Brothers. So we went there and saw fireworks and heard Pentatonix sing. In person!!!! (and the Isley Brothers ) I was so thrilled. If you aren't familiar with them, go look them up on Youtube, they are just fantastic. And the best part....I didn't have to go alone.

Iacta alea est  The Isley Brothers have the distinction of being the longest continually performing band of the rock & roll era. The Beach Boys are second. And for those of you who would say 'what about Chuck Berry?', Berry is a solo act. But I'd still ay to see any one of the three....especially the Isley's.

Shimmer128 posted on Main Page The Lobby  Just wanted to give my L-dotter friends an update. It's been 8 weeks since my mastectomy and I'm FINALLY feeling goooood!!! So much has happened bad, but I'm on the mend. :D
I got a staph infection in my surgery site and even with antibiotics, it was getting worse daily. The plastic surgeon had to take the expander out and it started getting better within two days. I still have a way to go. I STILL have a drain and the remnants of the infection, but I feel good!
Chemo will start, even with a drain, if I can just whip the last of the infection. Which I will do. It feels so good to feel good.

Shimmer128 posted on Main Page The Lobby  Today is my birthday! And I want to tell you of the wonderful gift I was given.

I got to talk to Lucianne on the phone! I am still smiling over it. I've been on this site and posting for 12 or 13 years and she's been my hero for all that time. And then today....wow. All I can say is WOW. :D

Now an update on me, with a request for help.
I was diagnosed with (a second ) breast cancer in June. They said mastectomy was the answer this time, instead of lumpectomy like last time. No chemo! I said. Oh no no no, mastectomy, which I did NOT want either. My cancer this time was caught so early, it didn't show on the mammo or the ultrasound in June, stage 0, non invasive, DCIS. If I HAD to have cancer, that was the one anyone would pick, the dr said. Because I was starting reconstruction right on the table, a plastic surgeon had to be there, so their schedules had to mesh, so my surgery was scheduled for Sept 16. Only when I had the mastectomy 3 months after Dx my innocent little stage 0 had turned into a stage 3, invasive monster that was already in my lymph nodes. (another ride on the emotions roller coaster that was ) The mastectomy was so hard on me. So although they got it all, and the PET scan shows no spreading of it however, they do want me to have chemo now, to catch any stray cancer cells that might be left.
I've changed my diet even more to assist my immune system in fighting cancer. Any advice I got would be appreciated.
I do need some help though. If anyone has any knowledge of someone, some cancer assistance to reach that can help me, I need assistance with housecleaning. I can do a bit more now this week, but still can't lift and sweep. Does anyone know of any assistance that might be given in that area?? I live alone and I have not had an easy go of it since the mastectomy. The first week I went hungry almost all the time, the second week a friend from back home (i moved recently ) came up and stayed for 4 days, but she didn't really do much. Of course her being here was very nice, but I did need help. She drove me to the dr down 65 miles south, and that's the day I found out about that invasive cancer and lymph node involvement, and that was a bad day for me. Then a few days later my niece came for two days, now she really helped. And my son who lives very near comes when he can, he works 12 hour days however and is exhausted each night. His wife is one of those dil that never calls, never comes by. No help. Nuff said.
I have good insurance, Medicare (disabled because of cancer, so my

Shimmer128  I have good insurance, Medicare (disabled because of cancer, so my second insurance, Tricare, requires i get it if it's available ) So I'm covered by insurance very well. I know Medicaid would help me with visiting home care, but not Medicare. :/ I do have a visiting nurse once a week and a physical therapist twice a week. but i sure need help with the house and cooking too maybe.
I must say this, it's been p.r.e.t.t.y. bad, but I have been blessed too. I have good insurance, my cancer hasn't spread yet, my children (grown ) are wonderful loving sons, and then.....Miss Lucianne called me. omg. after all these years that we could talk on the phone! My friends have gathered around me online. I moved three months ago to be near my son, although I did not know his wife was going to be distant, still...I needed him. I need friends here, that would be nice. I won't need too much more help from the mastectomy, i hope, but then chemo....I'll need it again. Let me know if you can think of anything.
I don't know if it will matter, but I live in the Atlanta GA area.

Thank you all for reading this.

Check with these 2 organizations for house cleaning while you're receiving chemo. I think it's a free service. And good luck to you....been there and there IS a light at the end of the tunnel.

Iacta alea est  Happy Birthday! My mom just arrived home from a 2 month stretch in ICU and a reahb hospital due to heart problems. My dad is practically an invalid too. i am reduced to working 2 days per week and using the other days to care for them. BUT, on the days I work I have a woman come and stay with the folks and due the laundry and light housekeeping. My mom was the one who found this woman. And she did so by asking the nurses who were caring for her in the hospital. One of the nurses had a friend who was a retired nurse and did this type of "private" home care. So my advice is to speak with everyone you meet during doctor appointments, chemo treatments, and anywhere else you come in contact with medical folks and I bet someone will have a name or contact to give you. You're in my prayers.

Iacta alea est  Shimmer, I didn't hire my home care lady for nursing services either. I just got her name from a nurse who cared for my mom while she was hospitalized. Getting a first person recommendation from a professional is just a fairly good way to find competent home care. Best of luck in your search and you have my prayers for your healing. God bless you much.

M2  Shimmer, if you belong to a Church, many of them have "Stephen Ministries", which help Church members with exactly this kind of thing. If they don't do it themselves, they have contacts that do. If you are a Church member, ask your Pastor for contacts. "Steven Ministries" are life-savers for people like you! You will be in my prayers, dear one.

Shimmer128 posted on Faith  I have a prayer request. It's so inconsequential compared to what others are going through, but I'm hurting.
I am in the middle of 4 months of chemo and my boyfriend just broke up with me, out of the blue. He is interested in someone else (no doubt someone with hair! ) and although it's not the worst thing that could happen, it is very painful to me. If you don't mind adding that to your prayers for me, I'd appreciate it.

Iacta alea est  Shimmer, re-read Ms. Surfie's post. I am the recipient of great comfort from the prayers these fine, fervent people raise to God. And I offer my prayers as well, and much empathy as well. My ex-wife divorced me in the middle of a medical struggle. On this prayer wall we cannot see you, and you cannot see us....but we feel you, and you feel us. Your back is covered, now be courageous and go forward. And come back here as often as you need (or want ) to.

Get though your chemo knowing that you are in the process of healing and that we have you in our prayers. God bless you.
