Sehall  I just signed up with NetGalley as a reviewer (I review books in my digital publication, Digging History Magazine ). I'm so excited to get "sneak peeks" of books soon-to-be-published. I'm reading one now, a delightful book -- part history and part personal memoir -- about family road trips (Don't Make Me Pull Over! ). Oh, the memories (and the laughs )! I'll be reviewing the book in the June issue of the magazine which has a "Road Trip!" theme.

Subscription sale on now with a chance to win a grand prize at the end of the summer: https://www.digginghistorymag.com/buy-a-subscription/ or by single issues here: https://www.digginghistorymag.com/monthly-issues/.

Sehall  I don't remember when I joined The Connection -- maybe January of February of this year. Long time Lucianne member though (although I don't comment much ). I put up similar posts earlier but haven't in a while, and I have put up blurbs about my magazine as well. The magazine's focus is history and genealogy and each month has a different mix of articles, with virtually no advertising -- just stories (accompanied by footnotes and sources ). Lots of work (and love ) put into every issue!

LambChop  Many thanks for posting this. Anything that combines history and genealogy captures my interest. Knowing how critical history is to understanding your own family history is key. I'll be looking into your magazine.

Sehall  Thank you LambChop for your interest. I do have a summer-long contest for new subscribers: https://www.digginghistorymag.com/specia
l-offers/

I'm very proud of the magazine. After spending four years as the editor of my local genealogical society's newsletter, I'm excited to expand my creativity. After turning the newsletter into an award-winning publication (1st, 2nd and 3rd place in Texas and 2nd in National Genealogical Society this year ), I'm pumped to do my own thing.

Although I don't have a lot of subscribers yet, I will keep plugging away. I have a vendor table at a genealogy conference this weekend so hope to sign up a few there. If you're seriously interested in subscribing, contact me on the web site and pick an issue you'd like to try out (see The Magazine Store - Single Issues ).

Sehall  To LambChop and StormCnter and all history and genealogy enthusiasts. I helped coordinate the first annual Caprock Genealogy Conference this past weekend in Plainview, TX. It was a great success!

I had a vendor table with a special subscription offer for conference attendees which I'm extending to everyone for one-year subscriptions (offer runs 5/14-5/21 ). Purchase a one-year subscription and apply the discount code "2OFF" at Checkout. See the subscription link above in the comment that started this thread. Thanks for taking a look!

Sehall  Forgot to add this: All conference attendees received the first FOUR issues of the magazine for free. Sign up this week to be a one-year subscriber and you will receive those issues as well.

MeiDei  Hey, Cinco de Mayo (5/5 ) is like our 4th of July, it's when Mexico defeated the French ... it's not made up : ) laughing here, I think I'll treat us with some cheese & jalapeno quesadillas now! Good solve BTW.

For Star Wars fans yesterday was "May the Fourth be With You" and today is "the Revenge of the Fifth" ... and if you prefer Star Trek Spock says: "Live long & prosper:..

MeiDei  As soon as July 4th was written I thought it would have been better to mention a day celebrating a victory i.e., Patriots Day. Yes it commemorates Mexico's defeat of the French forces. I'd love a Margarita right now but it will have to be V-8 ; )

StormCnter  Mei, the quiz is clever. Well done.

No, Cinco de Mayo isn't "made-up", but it has zero/nada/nothing to do with the US. It's a very big deal in Mexico and has been imported here to the extent that some schools have made it a holiday.

MeiDei  This fake photograph was created by the satire web site WorldNewsBureau.com, and it was originally published in December 2013. It's back circulating this month. In addition to digitally altering the position of Biden’s hands, World News Bureau also photoshopped a bottle of liquor into Biden’s pocket. He has enough trouble keeping his hands to himself so why photoshop/manipulate when you can get a real video of him misbehaving.
