0 - Feast of St. Expeditus the Centurion, Martyr and Patron of Navigators
530 - Battle of Callenico: The Persians defeat the Byzantines

1775 - The Battles of Lexington & Concord -- The Shot Heard 'Round the World. The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. About 700 British Army regulars in Boston, under Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith, were given secret orders to capture and destroy rebel military supplies reportedly stored by the Massachusetts militia at Concord. Through effective intelligence gathering, Patriot colonials had received word weeks before the expedition that their supplies might be at risk and had moved most of them to other locations. Ultimately, the militias ended up outnumbering British regulars and inflicted more casualties than the colonials sustained. Colonial losses were 49 KIA and 39 WIA; British casualties were 73 KIA and 174 WIA. Painting: Colonial militias engage British regulars.
