Pet Peeves

Nugoddess  I was on my way back from a beer run for Buzz doing, oh, 57 in a 55 zone when a car about two blocks away pulled out in front of me. I had plenty of time to slow down but what really ticked me off was the fact that: A ) there was no one behind me; and B ) the driver decided s/he was going to be Cautious Charlie and drive 45. In a 55 speed zone. On a clear day with no visible obstructions.

We were in a no passing zone so I couldn't just zip around them. I flashed my lights but whoever was driving decided they were the designated Keeper of the Speed.

Seriously, if there is no traffic behind someone while you are waiting to pull out, either wait until the oncoming car passes or find that long pedal on the right side of the footwell and use it appropriately.

(The worst part was Buzz got all cranky about warm beer. I told him he could chill the beer in the same bucket he uses to soak his head. )

Mmmmwah!

MaxWedge  That gripes me too whenever someone pulls out in front of me, and there’s no one behind me. I think that’s part of the me first mentality that has permeated America over the years. And there is so little courtesy on the roads anymore. But as far as you flashing your lights, I’m pretty sure that is only to be used if there’s a lane where the slower car can move over to. I don’t believe it is used to tell the other driver to speed up. I could be wrong. I’d be interested in how others on here think. And sorry about the warm beer. I hate that. :(

Safetydude  I'm a part time truck driver and spend three to four hours on the road five days a week, including Saturdays. Most of the time I'm on I-75 between Sarasota and Naples. What I hate are, what I call, 'the left lane bandits'.

AKA "Keeper of the Speed".(Great sobriquet, Nu )

Those are the drivers that believe as long as they are at, or near, the speed limit everybody else should go the same speed as them and they stay in the left lane and thereby robb me of my right to drive at a speed where I'm comfortable...

If I want to be a scofflaw and drive seven to nine miles above the speed limit and take my chances it's my business.

Florida tried to raise the speed limit to 75MPH, which would give us an effective speed limit of 85 on I-75 but the Governator vetoed it.
