Grahamcracker posted on Main Page The Lobby  I’m posting on this wall as I want it to reach as many as possible. First of all, I’m on Medicare. Second, I have 2 chronic diseases: heart and kidney. Third, I have been hospitalized 2x this year. The other day Inwas at my dr.’s office. I saw his PA. When we were finished she told me she had to give me this info. They are part of a program called CCM. From what I understand, it is a government program that covers those with chronic illnesses. You get a social worker, nurse, and many other health aides. The PA was apologetic for bringing this up. I didn’t have to sign up then and said I would look into it. I found it on line, quickly browsed the info. My impression is it’s the camel’s nose under the tent, the first step toward single payer. My question is do any of you know about this program? Your opinion? It would be great if some of you would read the description of this program. Anything that has to do with the government raises my suspicions. By the way, CCM stands for chronic care management. Any information from you would be appreciated. Thanks.

StormCnter  Grahamcracker, my 74 year old brother is a Parkinson's patient. He is pretty mobile (with the help of a walker ), but suffers from the many manifestations of his disease. He benefits greatly from the program you describe, although I am not familiar with the CCM term. The visiting nurse has been the biggest benefit for him. She is available almost all the time and responds very quickly when he has a medical crisis, plus she schedules regular visits and is in ongoing contact with his various doctors. I'm not sure how he could get along without these services, as he and my sister-in-law live in a very small West Texas town a long way from many sophisticated medical services. It's very much appreciated specialized oversight and I am not aware of any federal intrusion into his life.

Grahamcracker posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters  I’m posting this on 2 walls as I know there are many crafters as well as animal lovers out there. Go to comfortforcritters.org. It is an organization that provides blankets and other handmade items for shelter cats and dogs. It appears as though they operate all over the U.S.
Even if you can’ t physically donate your time to a shelter, this provides an opportunity to help in other ways. They also accept donations of partial skeins of yarn and scraps of material. My daughter volunteers at a dog and cat rescue that benefits from this organization. Hopefully, this will give some of you an incentive to share your talents and treasures

Grahamcracker posted on Crafts  I’m posting this on 2 walls. For those of you crafters out there, this may be something you’d be interested in. I just found out about this today. The animal rescue my daughter volunteers at is a recipient of theses items. Go to comfortforcritters, org to see if this is something you would like to support.

Grahamcracker posted on Main Page The Lobby  Just a question for all you astute LDotters: Where are the Obozos spending
Christmas this year? Remember when we treated them to 2 weeks in Hawaii every year for 8 years? Are they going there on their own dime this year? Inquiring minds want to know. Merry Christmas to all of you. May the blessings of the season be with all of you in the coming year.

MeiDei  No search yet turned up how the 0bama's are spending Christmas, just stories mocking Trump for possibly being in Florida after criticising 0's abscence from the WH @ Christmas. I think it's safe to say, the 0's only travel on OPM.

Grahamcracker posted on Computers &Tech Issues  For the past 2 days when I click on an article on this site, the screen turns gray, 8 thumbnails pop up with a little message "sponsored links", and a white X to close out in the top left corner. What is this? It only happens on my iPad.

Tulsa  I use Windows, but it sounds like a pop up. Is there a Mac user in the house who can help?

I have one suggestion. If Macs are auto updated, an update can change your settings. That happened with a browser update in windows. Once ABP (adblockplus ) was turned off.

Jerico  Yesterday, when they were working on the system, I didn't have the problem anymore but it is back today. I've been having this prob on my iPhone for the last week or so. I'd hoped that it was fixed but apparently not. If you go to settings-safari-advanced-and turn java off, then you don't get the gray cover ads but then you can't watch videos or use some links.

Tulsa  Jerico, if you have ABP installed on all your devices (apple/mac ), you should be ok. And you should make certain popupstopper in on. Anything can be turned off during updates.

The gray screen popup only appears at Comics.com asking me to provide an email address. I click 'maybe later' and it disappears. I do not get any pop ups at Lucianne or anywhere else. I use mostly Edge (Win. 10 browser which replaces IE ). I also use FF and Brave. It depends on what I'm doing and if I need to print. Each browser has features I prefer depending on what I need.

I have no problem seeking and paying a tech if a problem isn't fixed very quickly. Our tech is a kewl Cajun dood that makes house calls after work.

Grahamcracker posted on Coffee Klatch  The article on the fast food burger wars and the responses on today's forum made me think of burgers from years ago. Does anyone remember hamburgers from many moons ago? They had a completely different taste from the cardboard that passes for hamburgers today. The best comparison I can make is they tasted like ground tenderloin. As a matter of fact, all beef tastes like cardboard unless you buy
" prime". I was told that our cows are "European". That makes sense to me. My husband worked with a German who was here for short time consulting. When given a choice off restaurants he always asked to go to one of our steakhouses. He loved our steaks! I would love to have one of those wonderful hamburgers again, but I'm too cheap to buy tenderloin and have it ground!

GO3  We had the best burgers at home. They were a combination of plain ground beef and ground chuck. I don't know what a "European" cow is. I would think we would be exporting our cows, not importing them. FWIW, I find Brazilian beef to be substandard, while New Zealand beef is a lot better if you can't get good ole US beef.

MeiDei  All beef, even the pricey "grass fed" is flavorless; it's been like that for the past 40 years. We grew up on ground chuck, and had t-bone or porterhouse for steak as normal fare. I think the industry has been compensating for lack of taste by the abundance of marinades now offered. Used to be salt & pepper were all that was used, now rubs & marinades ....

Grahamcracker  Glad others agree. That's a good point about the marinades. I never made the connection!

Gram77  There are several couples I and hubby go to dinner with. Once in a while someone will suggest the Outback. It we go there I always tell the waitress to please ask the cook to put none of their flavorings on the meat. Just cook it and I will use a bit of salt and pepper. I always get looks, especially from waitress. They always say, "are you sure?"

Grahamcracker posted on Pet Peeves  Has this happened to others here? I like to use the self-checkout registers when I have just a few items. Today I did just that. Ok, picture this: on one side there are 3 registers, a large space , then 3 registers on the other side of the space. I go to stand in line on the left shade and was told in no uncertain terms by a woman on the right side that she was next in line. If you are going to make a line that for the next person waiting, why not stand in the middle or make two lines ? The next man and I were talking and found the system senseless. I wasn' t the only one scolded. Someone asked the employee standing there to help if there was one line or two. She said one. Makes no sense. This happened to me at another store until they reconfigured their registers. I don't think I'll shop at that particular store any more.

MeiDei  I was in one of our chains today and they've reconfigured three of their registers - a strict 10 items or less. There's one line & you go to next available cashier ... we had 5 items too many to take advantage.

Grahamcracker posted on Coffee Klatch  I was just made aware of a Medicaid scam. My next door neighbor is Mexican. Don't know if they're citizens, but are here legally. Her mother-in-law was staying with them for a month, then went to a daughter's home a few blocks away. The MIL has cancer. She's having chemo and radiation here. Neighbor said Medicaid is paying for it. I was confused and said she lives in Mexico. Neighbor said she' s a legal resident. She comes and goes. She sure does. She comes here for benefits and then goes back to Mexico. Neighbor's father did the same thing a couple years ago. I was confused but never asked how he could be covered by Medicaid for his chemo. What seems to be happening is the adult children say they'll sponsor mami and papi. They get their green card, hop, back to Mexico and come here when they need medical care. This is wrong on so many levels. Am I the only one that didn't know about this scam?
