BirdsNest I neglected to buy spinach for this recipe and I did not want any meat in them, so I added more corn(I used thawed, frozen ). They were delicious. Because of the cheese in the mix they were a bit tricky to remove from the greased muffin tins. Maybe next time I will use liners and spray those prior to adding the thick batter. Very thick batter. The cayenne pepper gives them a nice kick, not too spicy. When fresh peppers and fresh jalapenos are ready this summer I will make them using fresher ingredients. They ARE delicious.

Balogreene I finally had time to skim this site, and found a recipe I've been looking for for years! Borscht without beets. I used to make the recipe in "More With Less", but can't find my copy of that cookbook anymore. The Borscht and the muffins would be great together.

Hagar posted on Coffee Klatch * Surgery today for EC's husband. Let's all send good thoughts & prayers their way. Thanks
Escaped commieny DH came through fine, demanded food, and has a morphine drip so is happy, goofy happy. We will see if I can bring him home tomorrow. I am whipped and need some of his drugs, yikes. Our GP doesn't go to this hospital but he scared me being concerned for blood clots. DH had to stop his Plavix, aspirin, and niacin 5 days before surgery and he needs the Plavix for his coated stents. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, as we all know, they make the difference !!

Escaped commieny Thank you all for your prayers and emails. DH is on a bus,for 24 hrs, in a leg brace , but I can pick him up and get him home. Don't know when we will get our rig full of personal stuff home. Insurance doesn't allow just anyone to drive it home, but Surfie, Bless Your Heart for the thought. It might heal or surgery, don't know at this time. At least it was the right leg, the left is the one autographed by Viet Nam, even so we are blessed. Iacta, H&G, MD, all of you- thanks again, from the bottom of my heart and know all have been in my prayers too,and I never forget to offer the healing power of the Holy Spirit for Mags.
Escaped commieny Thank you again, after 26 hrs on a bus, I have him home. I had to use the International Speedway to get him from the Daytona Beach station, It's Turkey Run at the speedway and the total populations of several states are all on the street !! Bumper to Bumper for miles. Some really beautiful antique vehicles, when cars were cars and men were, well you get my drift. WOW, wish I could have taken pictures.

Safari Man When you're holding a hammer and sickle...
I hope/wish the bravado at the end of that was true. Sadly, too few people are tuned into what is actually going on in this country. I am not seeing the change I thought we'd see. We just keep sliding into the abyss.
Well, a girl potato and boy potato had eyes for each other, and finally they got married, and had a little sweet potato, which they called 'Yam.'
Of course, they wanted the best for Yam.
When it was time, they told her about the facts of life.
They warned her about going out and getting half-baked, and accidentally mashed, and get a bad name for herself like 'Hot Potato,' and end up with a bunch of tater tots.
Yam said not to worry; no spud would get her into the sack and make a rotten potato out of her!
But on the other hand she wouldn't stay home and become a couch potato either.
She would get plenty of exercise so as not to be skinny like her shoestring cousins.
When she went off to Europe, Mr. And Mrs. Potato told Yam to watch out for the hard-boiled guys from Ireland and the greasy guys from France called the French fries.
Yam said she would stay on the straight and narrow and wouldn't associate with those high class Yukon Golds, or the ones from the other side of the tracks who advertise their trade on all the trucks that say, 'Frito Lay.'
Mr. & Mrs. Potato sent Yam to Idaho P.U. (that's Potato University ) so that when she graduated she'd really be in the chips.
But in spite of all they did for her, one-day Yam came home and announced she was going to marry Tom Brokaw.
Mr. and Mrs. Potato were very upset.
They told Yam she couldn't possibly marry Tom Brokaw because he's just......
Guard SGT (ret) Yam is in deep hot trouble. She will get shredded like Tom did the truth in his propaganda show he called the news.

Flaming Sword Could you please first point me to a self help group? Kind of like AA? 12 Earthboxes. Each one can take 4 tomato plants at least . I live alone.
I can(and do ) order enough tomato seed choices to feed any small to midsize Italian village. Then in spring, I march myself out and buy grafted toms from a nursery and ignore the many of the 30-40 young plants I started months ago.
OK. I admit it. I need help. And if anyone has use for about 60 various 1-2 year old vegetable seed packets , just yell.
I iz a junkie, yes I iz. And we haven't discussed my bell pepper habit.
And the green beans..

Linder Flaming Sword, Enjoyed and identified with your funny piece. At the top of our seed catalog purchase list is 1 pkg of Boxcar Willy tomato seeds. Doubt if we ever see the final product but just the wonder of it will help get us thro the winter.

BirdsNest FS-yeah gardening is an illness with no real cure. At least I hope not. We have four 2014 seed catalogues and in 3 of them we have circled items of interest and made lists. The fourth one I won't order from because I saw something inside that pizzed me off and I am hoping that I won't have to cave and order a particular packet of seeds from them because it really made me mad. I can source pretty much anything I want from other places. We will only be planting a few tomato plants because we have so many jars already canned, so any tomatoes will just be for fresh eating. And gifting to the dear sweet gentleman that supplied us with tomatoes last year when our plants got bombed with chemicals. Crop duster. FS-have you ever tried Giant Marconi peppers??? Those and Costa Rican Sweet are our favorites. String beans-we like flat beans and Contenders but this year we are going to try 2 we found in the Jung catalog- Mascotte and Annihilator-both are bush plants and the beans set out from the foliage for easier picking. Last year we picked 21-1/2 buckets(5 gal size ) from our 4 rows of plants(each row 75ft long ). Gave away a lot of beans.
