Kono posted on NellVada  Just a follow-up on our comments in the story about that Muslim 'Sacred Sex' thing (on Lcom at http://www.lucianne.com/thread/?artnum=662445 ) ... to add this there would probably be considered 'chatting' -- verboten on Lcom.

The story of the virgin birth of Christ is in the Gospels, which are canonical books for all Christian churches. The story of Joseph being chosen by God to be Mary's guardian until she came of-age (the whole scene with his staff sprouting a lily flower ) isn't in the Bible at all, though. That's from the book, The Protoevangelium of James, which was deemed apocryphal and rejected from the canon. (That's why I admitted that Joseph's taking care of Mary when she was still underage may not be an appropriate example for the topic we were discussing. )

Sorry for the confusion, all of which could have been avoided easily if I'd been more precise about what I was labeling 'apocryphal'.

Kono posted on Main Page The Lobby  Forgive me if this has been covered here already. I haven't been by in awhile.

But attached is a pic of the stealth drone. Am I the only one who thinks what Iran is showing looks like a prop from a high school play? What's going on here?

Rake King  Maybe it's a hoax on our part sending in a drone that has all the wrong information, technology, to take them off into a dead end. To make the hoax believable we would ask for it back and talk about plans to recover it. Maybe we messed up, but just maybe we're sly as a fox. I realize Obama doesn't seem to be that smart, but some generals certainly are.

Kono  Thanks, y'all. My retired-Navy techno-geek brother-in-law said he thought this pic was of a scale model, and the pics being shown by Iran show the real thing. Looking at the pics again with your assessment and his in mind, I'm inclined to agree.

Kono posted on Main Page The Lobby  I don't have a witty caption for the home site's pic of MO. But it reminds me SO much of my big brother's penchant (when we were much younger, of course ) for turning a potentially embarrassing moment into humor... by interjecting some statement to get everyone's attention to listen to something he was going to say (e.g. "Of course, this is how the thinking man would see it..." ) -- right before an incident of quite-audiable flatulence... ("Did someone else hear a duck around here? )

Attaching pic here, as it will likely give way to a new Photo of the Day tonight or tomorrow...

Kono posted on Main Page The Lobby  Her little girl turns up dead, body decomposed for a month, and she claims the girl died in the family pool. She spent the intervening month partying, and her parents helped her dispose of the girl's body. She's accused of killing the girl. She puts on a great show of being distraught during her trial, amidst a series of bizarre and contradictory stories from her and her parents, and she is acquitted of the killing.

And this is how she looks the day after her acquittal. She gets to face the rest of her life, knowing that her daughter is still dead. Does this look like the face of someone who just got away with murder, or what?

There are not many places (if any ) in which she will be welcomed. She will be like OJ in that people will scorn her where ever she goes. And, like OJ, I suspect she will end up in prision again for some other reason.

I'd pony-up to watch a celebrity boxing match on PPV between Casey and Tonya Harding -- or even better, between Casey and Muhammed Ali's hard-pounding daughter.

Kono posted on Main Page The Lobby  Getting one of those early morning "hey, wait a minute!" moments here...

The news accounts we've been given of the Bin Laden raid have changed so many times since the story first broke that it's almost a blur by now. But weren't we repeatedly told during the first day or so that the actual raid had taken place the preceding week, and the announcement was delayed to give time for DNA confirmation?

The photos "taken about an hour after the raid" show May 02 camera datestamps on them. And now the whole "happened a week ago" part has quietly disappeared from the story.

Belwhatter  The DNA part of the operation is interesting and supports the longer time line. I read that the SEALs had to fly the corpse back to Bagram AFB in Afghanistan to do the DNA testing -apparently they had no close relatives for matching purposes other than step sisters/brothers, ergo only 99% assured identification.

Kono posted on Rollingcow  In response to your curiosity (and concern), Mrs. Cow, the avatar is simple: Why is it that cute and cuddly cats get all the love and attention? This is a pic of the winner of the World's Ugliest Cat award a few years ago. Only true cat lovers and deeply disturbed people would consider that cuddly. Jury's probably still out on which of those applies to me.

Kono posted on Coffee Klatch  Thanks to Lucianne for this new wall. In all candor, evening visits here of late have felt increasingly like walking in on a personal conversation between friends, and it's felt awkward to jump in on the thread(s) in-process or to start a new thread on a less-personal topic.

I wouldn't dream of discouraging personal chatting here, the way it's discouraged on the mother site. But part of the gift of Lcom has always been our focus on current events, and TheConnection gives us a place less hostile to 'stale' stories (those over 3 days old) and random issues-oriented discussions with no current news story in particular to anchor them. And now the KoffeeKlatch gives a corner whose primary mission is to be a place to hang and chill with friends and family.

May you all have a peaceful rest this night. May those people lost in the recent storms rest in peace. And may OBL rest in pieces.

TexaTucky  Thanks Mrs. Cow, it's from a Cinco de Mayo party I attended in, of all places, Moscow. My wife sent a piece of home to me while I was on a job. Yeah, I know, 'piece of home' and 'sombrero' should never be used in the same sentence, but we needed an excuse for a party. And it was May.

DONAL, sorry for getting snippy with you. I just didn't think Kono was rubbing anything raw, just expressing thanks for the new wall, that's all. Some of us who don't come to The Connection much are not up on the conniptions some of ya'll had here recently, so to see someone reprimanded right off the bat who had no part in it just got my dander up.

But peace be with you, Ma'am. I do get your point.

Kono posted on Main Page The Lobby  While I'm only an occasional Connection participant, I wanted to take a pause before observance of high holy days consumes the next several days to wish everybody here a wonderful weekend. Not very hi-res (taken with ISO-800 film using a rather pedestrian Minolta XG1, about 5 years before I got my first digital camera). This is the entry in my notebook for it:

Driving between Logan, UT and Jackson, WY - somewhere on the stretch transitioning between the Salt and Snake rivers - I caught a real nice glimpse out of my rearview mirror. Twenty five miles later I decided to double back to get the shot - which gave the first hints of the beautiful views ahead.
