L-Daughter A poster's comment on "you didn't build that" set me thinking. The comment mentioned "teaching kids community activism as a way to make a living," which I agree is so out of whack. And when I was in school about 15 years ago, I remember any job counseling we had as being very "Find something you'll love to do." Which by itself isn't too objectionable. A great goal if you can reach it. But it made me think, Did we used to teach kids they needed a job to earn money, and now we teach them they need a job to fulfill their inner yearningness or whatever? For one thing, it's probably a lot easier to be happy with your job if all you expect as recompense is a paycheck.

L-Daughter My dear folks at L.com: Speaking as someone who's personally got bit by this kind of thing before (by an unintended meaning), I wanted to suggest you maybe photoshop in a fruit other than the watermelon. Not so much because of the PC thing as because it might detract from your intended meaning. Then again there's the school of thought that says be damned to those who might jump to see insult in such things. But I have been on the receiving end of the racist accusations, and it is no fun having everybody believe you're racist despite everything you say. So I'm just offering it up as a suggestion. Course what else would he be holding with his arm that way, a giant peach?

Surfhut Hi, there! I'm not sure what you are referring to. If you could point me in the right direction, I'd like to take a look at it. (Love your name!)

L-Daughter It was a photo-illustration on the L.com main page, below the must-reads; tweaking Obama for his embarrassing "I'd rather be squeezing fruit" comment (I don't have the quote correct there). Obama exiting AF1 with a watermelon 'shopped onto his arm. Nothing wrong with it per se, I just didn't want the experience of waking up today to a thousand frothing Kossacks screeching "Stereotype! Racist!" Because I know, unfortunately, that the facts don't matter once that happens-- nobody will ever believe it was inadvertent. So, better just not to hand them the ammo. I love my L.com! (and thank you for the compliment on my name! My Mom showed me this site, so I thought it was fitting in a couple ways.)

L-Daughter ABC twit says Ryan was too "budgety." Heaven forbid someone focus on issues. Those who watched SOTU - did Obama actually encourage thinking that America is a good place??

MominNoCA ABC would rather that people not think about all the money Obama wants to spend (waste).

Jatfla Yes...they want us to not think about the $$$$. However, with the internet, we know what they are doing with our $$$$ and it's criminal. Sadly though, the empty heads/the feel-goods/optimists will choose to believe him.

L-Daughter I couldn't stand to watch SOTU but I want some of these news sites to livestream Ryan's response! I'm trying not to be shallow, but I think I'm a little bit in love with him. Tall dark and brainy works for me. But I do NOT want America to turn to him as a savior because of looks. We know just where that got us.
