Gram77  Good morning all. A friend sent me a little something along with a lovely personal message. The "little something" is called Little White Lies. It goes as follows, Little White Lies: One Size Fits All...You Haven't Changed A Bit...You May Experience Some Mild Discomfort...I'm Sure It Won't Stain and best of all, You Carry It Well. : )

RedWhiteBlue  I finally solved my problem with getting this website to open/not open up for me. When I have AdBlock turned on I cannot get on this site. As soon as I turn it off I 'm all set. Odd! But I'm glad I finally solved the mystery. Yay for me. LOL
same thing was happening on the mother site. I could not get my searches for my ''replies'' when AdBlock was turned on. Ar soon as I pause returns my replies. Though you might want to know.

Tulsa  Kono. Lucianne's word is gold to me and should be to you and all of us. Lucianne said it is a form of theft if you read her response. The culprit is google, imo. I'm in FF right now and there are no ads on the homepage.

I know javascript can be turned off to stop ads, but I have been told it causes many problems and is not a good idea. My javascript is on.

Fireball27  Yesterday on the main site, some were talking about security systems that are cutting the NRA discount. I am using a great home security system I bought at Best Buy. Arlo home Pro system. 6 cameras, all wireless and no subscription required. Rechargeable batteries and it will e-mail you when the camera picks up movement. Your phone will tell you when someone is on your porch or wherever you place your cameras. They sell the Arlo system with less cameras and regular batteries but this works best for us. Paid $945 for it. Works great. Also if you want an inexpensive smart phone check into the Tracphone. has the LG for only $59.95. Plenty of talk minutes, text, and internet, plus it lets you use the free wi-fi wherever it is available. Why pay a lot per month when you don't need to?

Tulsa  Email to Mrs. Luci and response to me:
'So they(ads ) are not your doing? Um, I mean to say…they are not there with your permission? I will certainly post that at the connection lobby.

Ldotters think you have approved them or are allowing them for pay. None of us have any way of knowing.

Thank you for responding and so promptly too.'

Respone: 'Oh, my no. We hate them and complain to our tech people all the time. If anything, it costs us money because we lose readers.

Please tell our Connection friends it is a form of theft and we hate it too.
Best, Lucianne.'

Kono  The "examine element" tool in firefox shows the ads to have the "blob: http:" syntax (the image path is "blob:
), which are supposedly javascript-generated and effectively hide the actual URL of the ads. This makes it look plausible that some other agent is inserting them into the html code without permission.

That said, I have had javascript disabled on my browser forever, making me suspect our gracious host of somehow camouflaging paid ads behind a veil of plausible deniability.

Does anybody here have enough web-tech chops to determine the advertising mechanism more definitively than that, though? I left tech 17 years ago, which makes my analysis dubious (or naïve, at best ).

Tulsa  Kono, in Firefox there site permissions, media and security, etc.

You get there by clicking the shield in the address line and then the arrow where it says site not secure and then 'more information' in the small windows that pops up.

My husband's laptop has a cap. G+ above the likes line on the homepage. That is google. google is notorious for placing ads without permission all over the internet. They just advertised they are eliminating 42% of them in their chrome browser. Oh nice of them. /s

I firmly believe the ads came back when the like button did. There is a link in media (see above ) that has google. I highlighted it, right clicked and deleted it and then blocked ads it by checking he box on the media page. This is very difficult to explain when I'm not looking at what I did or even in that browser at the moment. All the above was done in Firefox. On the homepage and then in the one must read article as I do not get ads using Brave.

If you check the box in 'media' to block ads on Lucianne and then block all site permissions the ads go away. You also lose ALL icons and pictures at The Connection.

Brave admitted having a bug about the 20th of Feb which has been corrected. See my post on the computer wall.

I see your comment below. I have no ads using Brave.

Does any of what I just typed help?

Kono  Interesting..... That google link appears to be totally hidden from view. What "added value" does it provide here, and at what cost?

But which LIKE button are you referring, Tulsa? Lcom's or twitter/facebook's?

Tulsa  The like button on the main site for comments on each article that was severly abused during the primaries to the point Lucianne removed it. Posters whined it was gone and there were many requests for it to be returned. Lucianne returned the like button at some point after the election.

This isn't facebook and I never liked the like button.

I mentioned my husband's laptop has a small bright red G+ above the 'click if you like this comment'. I clicked it and it says google. It does not appear on this desktop.

Kono  The only reason I like the 'like' link is that there are quite a few times I read a comment with which I agree, but find the accumulation of "good point", "amen", "yes", etc. comments extremely tedious to wade through in the effort to find other remarks.

I'm inclined to trust our gracious host's claim that the ads are neither sold nor invited, and grow yet another increment more distrustful of alphabet/google/satan. Together with social networking sites they have earned every ounce of antipathy directed their way.

Tulsa  Be advised. I wrote Lucianne and thanked her for removing the ads. I just heard from her and she said:

'You are welcome. Some people get them. Some don't. They are so annoying.'

I asked Mrs. Lucianne a few questions about the ads and if she has the time to respond I will post her response here.

Tulsa  Phooey, that was hilarious and terribly sweet, but! Storm is right. No ads using Edge (Win. 10 browser ) or Firefox as of this morning.

We do have Brave if they return. The reason Brave is so fast is no ads loading to slow down the website/s. Winner! Winner! or Happy. Happy. Happy.

Tulsa  Phooey, Kono was using Brave and the ads returned twice. ? I gave him my shield settings here, and asked Brave users for help. No response from them or him.

The Storm had problems loading Brave and I don't believe she was ever successful. She's in Win. 7 I believe, but that could be neither here or there.

I downloaded Brave last year or even the year before and my settings and screens look nothing like the current download it seems.

So it appears everyone is not as fortunate as we are. Then there are others like Lonestar who has been using it for some time with no problems. I do not understand why that is.

Bottom line. If we're in Brave and the ads come back, we'll never notice will we.

StormCnter  Congrats to those who are successfully using Brave to clean up the Lucianne home page. I decided to try it again this morning, downloaded and installed Brave, set up the various blocks and Voila! the Lucianne page ads disappeared. I finished setting up my preferences, bookmarks, etc. and worked for an hour or so. Then, when I left Brave and came back later, all the ads had reappeared. My settings are the same but the ads are back. I surrender.

Tulsa  I don't understand what is happening, but I did find a bit of info yesterday. The Suit's laptop has a bright red G+ above the 'likes' click. That is 'google'.

In Firefox I went to (click )the shield, next to the circled 'i' in the address line, then click the arrow to the right of the window that says the site is not secure, then at the bottom of the next little window it says more information. Click that. Then I turned off every single one of those to don't allow or block. Refreshed the website and the ads disappeared.

I had to do that again for a must read article and the ads disappeared.

If you check 'media' under site permissions, you find all the ads are from google.

I think the ads are directly tied to the like button. The return of the like button is about when the ads reappeared. Yes?

If I'm in the Edge browser (Win 10 browser ) I have no way to eliminate site permissions. It only works in FF. And I may have skipped an instruction. But hopefully I gave you enough to work it out.

Kono  Finally got internet access in my new room!

I am still getting the ads in the brave browser - though not on every page. The home page seems to be the page most-consistently free from ads, so far.
