Ramona This morning I am praying that the memorial for our Kevin(1-3 this afternoon at Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto ) will be a blessed event for all who attend, especially his daughters and grandchildren. They are expecting a packed house. So many of us would love to be there.
I always enjoyed hearing Kevin tell stories of his childhood. He remembered his first dance, stepping on some poor little girl's toes because he was clumsy. I told him that I wasn't allowed to dance (mother associated dancing with the alcohol abuse and philandering of her dad ) but I told him that I will dance in heaven. This is the song I then shared with him.

Surfhut Very nice. I, too, will dance in Heaven with Cap one fine day. My prayers continue for the comfort of his family and friends.
Again, Ramona ... you are not a pest!

ScarletPimpernel Thank you Ramona. I love this song, and I'm sure Kevin would as well. It is a perfect tribute to him.
Wrightwinger Perspective... I lost a dear friend, brother-in-law, and one of the most thoroughly Christian men I know. He was on a fishing trip with his son and grandson today. The page has turned, now begins the first chapter of his eternal life, old friends reunited, loved ones reunited, and best of all he is with Jesus. He was not quite 60. He left his wife, two grown children, two grand kids and a lot of friends. And a huge hole in a lot of lives.
The perspective is, of course, the hard part. We are all heading that way. The mortality rate is one-for-one, and cannot be increased. The old must die, and the young may die. And yet, with Christ, there is that Faith that buoys us up with Hope. The stone was rolled back, and the tomb empty. Blessed Hope! Heaven! Prepare and be there!

Surfhut We rejoice when a loved one arrives in Heaven. Yet, we grieve for our loss here on earth. You are in our prayers, brother.

Balogreene Many years ago, my Uncle Bill, a good friend's father, and a great friend of my parents' died. His daughter said, he has the easy part, he's in heaven. We have the hard part, figuring out how to live without him,
When my dad died, many years later, I knew what she meant. Daddy is happy, fishing with St. Peter. I still think of him every day (it's been 15 years ).

Balogreene For this I need prayer. My company has decided we get no raises for the next year or so (they've been limited to 2% for the last 5 years ). Of course the upper echelon still get their raises and bonuses, just not the peons. At the same time they announced our healthcare benefits and copays will increase. And, instead of matching our 401(k )'s every month, they will only do it once a year, keeping the money and interest for themselves.
I told my mom and sister, and said we would have to tighten our belts. They were both indifferent. Since I am carrying 60% of the cost of living together, I'm concerned.

Straitpath It is very frustrating, Balogreene. We pay estimated taxes every three months and we are hurting with the increase. I try to keep in mind the Lord is in charge and remind myself to render unto Caesar.... But I have had to reduce charitable giving as a result of the bite. Any ideas where you will tighten?

Balogreene I actually can think of a lot of places. We can get kindle books at our library, we can buy more in bulk, we have enough clothes and shoes. I just have to convince the family to use less electricity, not buy so much junk food, bake instead, you know, lots of little things. We'll make it, it's just by this time of life, you don't expect to be going backward.

Surfhut Remember Karen? She has been through 18 hours of brain surgery, months of brain radiation, months of radiation for the malignant tumor on her chest. This week, all is completed. She will have check-ups every month, then 2 months, then 6 months, then once a year.
She is blind in one eye, but can now learn how to cope with that and begin the process of rehability. Don't know if she will be able to drive again. I just hope she can get around without a walker. She's going for it!
Karen's birthday is tomorrow. She asked me to thank all of you for your prayers, which she said she could actually feel during those many dark and scary months. Special thank you to Mrs. Cow for the quilt to snuggle under when she couldn't do anything but lay on the couch.
THANK YOU from Karen and from me

Surfhut About 20 of us got together for Caesar salad and pizza last night. A year ago, we didn't know if Karen would still be with us now. You could see the relief in her face and in her husband's face.
I introduced them to each other when we were 18 years old. It was love at first sight for those two. Anyway, it was a wonderful evening!

Straitpath The future of the world has long been declared. The final outcome between good and evil is all ready known. There is absolutely no question as to who wins because the final score has all ready been posted on the scoreboard. We need to choose which team's jersey we will wear Jeffrey R. Holland
Happy Easter, all.

Lana720 Thanks, Commie! Just beautiful. Kevin was a good and faithful servant. Tonight at Holy Thursday Mass, the one psalm began, "Precious in the Eyes of the Lord, is the death of his faithful one." Hardly a coincidence.
I think I need your e-mail address to fill in the Kevin Cap, 'er gap.
Lana720 It is with a heavy heart that I post this from an e-mail from Kevin Coughlin's daughter. He posted here as Marine Tet Cap or something like that, at this point, I do not recall. those of you who loved his posts and or e-mails will want to pray for those he loved. Knowing Kevin, he would not want us to grieve, but to be happy that he will spend Easter with our risen Savior! I will also post this at other places here. God bless you and Happy Easter!
This is Melissa, Kevin’s daughter. I am saddened and heartbroken to announce my dad’s passing on 3/15. I’m just now sitting at his computer looking thru recent emails. His friends/contact list is so long and not organized, so it’s taking a while to inform everyone. Not sure how you know my dad…but I see your name a lot on his e-mail list.
I’m at melissacoughlin@hotmail.com if you have any questions

hope you are well….~Melissa

Escaped commieny Our local leader of our 912 had to cancel meetings, he is a non-drinker but has painful lesions on his liver and under going tests. We have added Keith to our prayer list. Even though we are in Florida, we have been able to use a lot of the research from the West Coast, mainly TimberQueen and Belwhatter. California is under a bigger assault but we are only an inch behind them, and he is our local hero, weekly meetings, editorials, films and education

Eagles Dominion Clay Balls... A man was exploring caves by the Seashore. In one of the caves he found a reed bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but they intrigued the man, so he took the bag out of the cave with him. As he strolled along the beach, he would throw the clay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could.
He thought little about it, until he dropped one of the clay balls and it cracked open on a rock . Inside was a beautiful, precious stone!
Excited, the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar treasure. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left.
Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of thousands of dollars in treasure, he could have taken home tens of thousands, but he had just thrown it away!
It's like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn't look like much from the outside. It isn't always beautiful or sparkling, so we discount it.
We see that person as less important than someone more beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person.
There is a treasure in each and every one of us. If we take the time to get to know that person, and if we ask God to show us that person the way He sees them, then the clay begins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth.
May we not come to the end of our lives and find out that we have thrown away a fortune in friendships because the gems were hidden in bits of clay. May we see the people in our world as God sees them.
I am so blessed by the gems of friendship I have with you. Thank you for looking beyond my clay vessel. APPRECIATE EVERY SINGLE THING YOU HAVE, ESPECIALLY YOUR FRIENDS! LIFE IS TOO SHORT AND FRIENDS ARE TOO FEW! Pass this on to another Clay Ball!!!
Do not ask the Lord to Guide your Footsteps if you are not willing to MOVE your Feet!
