Sagman posted on Main Page The Lobby LDotters who've been supportive since I started posting satire at lucianne.com in 2007 and then at Breitbart's Big sites (2010-12 ), an update: The e book collection I'm publishing is almost complete and will be up on Amazon around the middle of June.
It was a far more taxing exercise than I had anticipated. You'd think putting together a compilation is easy; turns out it's a real bear, in some ways more difficult than starting from scratch. I've worked on this for months, reviewing everything I'd done(hundreds of pieces ), tossing much aside, updating, combining, revising, and editing. I'm now in the process of figuring out an organizational scheme that works. I've hired a good design and formatting outfit to make the whole effort look professional.
Even if you've been reading my stuff regularly over the years, you'll see new material based on current events. I'll add that I did 70 columns when I contributed at Breitbart's, and most were not posted on the main page.
The majority of the 100 plus pieces in the book are in the 800 word range, which means I didn't have to truncate material, and the book runs to 65,000 words. There are the Obama and Hillary War Room dialogues, news spoofs, mock interviews, poem parodies, Obama press conferences and addresses to the nation, and other odds and ends.
I am too close to this to make an unbiased judgment, but I believe years of writing political satire have sharpened my skills, and that will be evident in the quality of the product. And I love mocking those people.
As I've said here before, I intended to put it up for $0.99 and donate the proceeds to lucianne.com but was told that such a low price was counterproductive to promoting interest, and several of you weighed in on that and agreed. So it'll go up for either $3.99 or $4.99 and, once again, I pledge to donate the first dollar of every sale to this site, however the book sells. (Not all; turns out there are some significant expenses associated with the project. )
One thing the e book publishing experts say is that you are way ahead of the game if you are part of an online community that is aware of your work. In that I am blessed by being an LDotter.

Tulunk Looking forward to buying your book. $4.99 has a nice sound to it. Now a dumb question. I have bought dozens of books for my kindle. Is the e book another form of Kindle?

Sagman Tulunk, there are no dumb questions. Yes, it will be a Kindle e book, downloadable like the other Kindle books you have. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm rarely satisfied with anything I've written, but this whole project has come together better than I had anticipated.

Sagman posted on Main Page The Lobby Feedback request.
I mentioned here some weeks back that I was writing an e book, a collection of satires (revised and updated ) I’ve posted on the main site and written as a Breitbart contributor. E book experts advise: if you’re part of a web community, ask for advice. So, price. Originally, I thought I’d offer it for free on Amazon; then I planned to sell it for $0.99, with proceeds going to lucianne.com to help maintain the site.
Consideration: Amazon gives 35% royalties on e books priced from $0.99 and $2.98 and 70 % royalties e books priced between $2.99-$9.99. (Regardless, the first dollar of every sale will go to lucianne.com. ) The e book people say that, depending on your goals, too low can be as bad as too high. I guess that means that giving it away or charging $0.99 might lead people to believe it isn’t worth a look.
Relevant information: It will be about 65,000 words and 250 pages (a big guess ). It will contain approximately 80 discrete pieces ranging from 300 to 1000 words. (Stuff I’ve done on the main page has been limited to 200 words (years ago )and 300 words (now ). Most of the pieces in the book are in the 600-900 word range.
So, here’s what I’m asking: what do you think is a fair price (if any ) for the book?
If you want to respond briefly here, that’s great. If you want to send me an e mail with comments, wonderful: stevegrammatico@yahoo.com
I think it can be made available for free for a time, or be available for borrowing if you're an Amazon Prime member. I have to check all these possibilities out.
Another possibility: I believe I can provide some kind of discount code when the book goes up. If you think you’ll buy the book, send me your e mail address and I’ll e mail you the code when the time comes.
Thanks.

DoktorFranken Sagman, if it's your stuff? I'd guess around $5 (I'm going by my recent purchase of Isaac Asimov's paperback of "The Stars, Like Dust" at around $11 ). However, please don't go by me - I have never purchased an e-book. Regardless, good luck! Can't wait to read it!

Bmoc I have a couple on Amazon right now. One is named "Things My Father Taught Me - Lessons in Life" that is about 25,000 words long and it sells steady at $2.99. I have a smaller one, only about 2100 words long named, "Suicide is Painless?" and is a short story based on my experiences as a paramedic and later as a nurse in the ER. It sells about 100 copies a month at 99 cents. I have another that is currently for sale on my won website for $5 as a pdf only for now that is 66,000 words long and is named "The Tinfoil Hat Chronicles" based on the election, Benghazi, and the 'fictional aftermath' after the theft of the election. It sells very well just as a pdf but as soon as it slows, I'll take it to Amazon and list it at $5.99.

Sagman posted on Main Page The Lobby I was on Kevin's e mail list and was grateful to receive so many items that piqued his interest. I noticed just the other day that I hadn't gotten anything from him since mid-March, which I thought a little odd.
A brilliant man. He probably forgot more about history and politics than I'll ever know.
I was also sorry that he stopped posting. When you are scanning a thread, there are certain people you look for, and Kevin was one. It didn't matter whether you agreed or disagreed with what he said; he expressed his opinion with grace and wit.
One thing I will never forget is that when I first started posting satire on the main page in 2007, Kevin took the time to write positive comments in response. In fact, I can't think of a single instance when Kevin and I were both posting at the same time that he didn't say something nice about my humor posts. I owe him a debt because the only way a writer knows whether he's getting through to readers is to hear from them.
We communicated occasionally by e mail over the years and it was always a pleasure to hear from him. So many interests, so happy to be alive and doing.
Godspeed, Kevin.

Sagman posted on Main Page The Lobby A heads-up.
Some of you know that I’ve been writing satire since 2007 on main page threads and, for several years, as a contributor on Breitbart’s sites.
I've often been asked by posters to put together a collection. I am finally doing it. The plan is to publish the collection as a $0.99 e book—proceeds (if any, after expenses ) donated to lucianne.com to help maintain the site. I’ve been in touch with our hostess and she is on board.
In the early days, the satires were pretty truncated because of the 200 word limit. When I wrote for Breitbart, the word limit was closer to 1000, so I was able to develop material. Now, writing for lucianne.com again, I have a little more breathing room because the word limit has been upped to 300.
It's been more of a chore than I thought it would be. I’m adding material and revising and updating everything, so it goes beyond a compilation. I’m a little better than halfway through the writing process and expect to finish that part of it in the next few weeks. Then I have to figure out how to publish an e book. (I have a text on that, plus Amazon provides plenty of support. ) I thought I had an arrangement with someone to provide assistance with this part of the project, but that arrangement appears to have fallen through.
I anticipate that the book will contain approximately 90 full-length columns and be in the 60,000 word range. Target date mid-spring if all goes well.

Sagman posted on Main Page The Lobby For those of you who still follow my political satire: these days, I do maybe two columns a month at Breitbart's biggovernment.com, and they're usually longer treatments (800 words vs. 200 ) of the Obama War Room dialogues I used to do here as a commenter at the mother site.
It's hit or miss as to whether somebody spots and posts the column at the main site (and columns at Breitbart's sites go up and disappear so quickly ), so I thought I'd mention that a new Obama War Room is up now. Here's the link:

Sagman posted on Main Page The Lobby Just thought I'd pass this along to all the folks here who served as my sounding board when I was learning how to write political satire: I have a new ''Obama War Room--You Hear Me Barack?'' piece just up at biggovernment.com.
Naturally, I won't post my own stuff on the main page, so it's been hit or miss for some time as to whether someone posts it there. But it seems reasonable to make mention of it here at the Connection because, well, though the satire appears on Breitbart's site, everything I write has its roots here in Ms. Lucianne's house.
September 15 at 21:56 EST .

| |
MsCharlotteVale I read it and it and enjoyed it. It must be hard to write satire nowadays because what used to be considered satire all sounds normal nowadays. Sometimes I'll read a headline from The Onion and get taken in by it. Nothing today is bizarre, strangely enough.

Mikkins2 So your here posting this as a Ldotter doing good, turned your talent into being able to land a job on biggovernment.com of Breitbart fame and asking that we may consider your piece worthy of posting. How many Ldotters like me wish we could say the same? I wish I could. I am for it. David Burge graced us with his presence here and most of us never new of his true talent till he became a house hold name in conservative blog circles. I say let it ride. Well done. Good luck! How can I become a paid intern?

Mikkins2 Ok I gotta post this. You forever have me as a fan. "He considers Paul Krugman the best humorist writing today." You had me at hello.
September 16 at 01:29 EST .
|

| |
Sagman MsCharlotteVale--you would be amazed at how many people go through a whole piece with outrageous stuff and believe every word is true. No question, satire is a bear to write, especially with an administration that seems bent on parodying itself every day. Mikkins2: Burge is the greatest satirist writing today. A genius. NO, No, No...I do not get paid. Contributors at Breitbart's sites-all of us as far as I know--have a platform and get exposure, but dinero, nope. If you are staffer at National Review, the New Yorker, Weekly Standard, places like that, sure. But the fact is that the articles you read at American Thinker, Breitbart,s BIG sites, and lots of other places like these eat up copy, and to get published is the goal, certainly not to make money. And believe me, the competition to get something published even without remuneration is fierce.

Sagman Actually, Phooey, a publisher did approach me about a book a while back. Nothing came of it, though. And MsCharlotteVale, it's not that satire's getting harder to write with this crew; it's that they are so outrageous that people sometimes people don't immediately recognize what I do as satire.

Italiano For eye protection, like everything else, it's a matter of personal preference. I'm certainly no expert (others out here probably are ), but I'd check your local gun store, talk to the experts and try them out for comfort. I've used Genesis (wraparound ), but most of the time just my regular prescription glasses indoor and polarized sunglasses outdoor. My regular glasses aren't wraparound, so that may not be the best approach. For ear protection, same thing. If you like earmuffs, I've used Peltor Tactical, but much prefer the custom earplugs I've had made by USA Earplugs (Linda ) at the Del Mar Gun Show. She molds them to the individual's ear canal (or whatever you call it ) and they are superb and have lasted for years.
June 16 at 23:06 EST .
|

| |
Italiano One other thing: for questions like this you may want to check out a number of online firearms forums that have all kinds of excellent info from very knowledgeable people. Two that I've used in the past are www.warrifles.com and www.thehighroad.com. Standing Wolf was still hanging out at THR last time I checked, which was a while ago. I'm not sure that the URLs are current, but they cover every topic and you get a wide range of helpful opinions. Good luck.
