Jatfla posted on Main Page The Lobby I'll admit that I'm not very smart about these things, but why has Charlie Rangel not been arrested? Just because he's a Congressman? His 'non' trial started today and he just up and left.

OnTheBall Jatfla indeed, indeed! The man knows where too many of the bodies are buried from past demo crimes methinks! Make no mistake about it, there are a lot of RINOs (marxists posing as GOP) who are just as nervous about forcing Charley to do the perp-walk as the marxists posing as demos, are. But you've nailed it, this guy is so bent he is officially ~crooked~. Can you even begin to calculate the IRS late fees and fines for Charlie's combining four Harlem rent controlled apartments into his personal office suite there in Harlem? If the IRS is true to their code, they would have to charge Charley the going rate for a comparable suite, at the going rate over each yr he has been there. Then add in the late fees and penalties, to it. You add in the owed interest for it all over thirty yrs and I don't think Charlie has stolen that much! It has to be huge! And this doesn't even get into his other criminal IRS omissions with the properties in Florida and in the Caribbean!

OnTheBall Then there is that whole issue of Charley not paying his 'Fair Share', while screaming at greedy GOP and greedy Wall Street. Ooooh myyyy, it makes one's face burn with embarrassment for our nation as a whole, to know this foul creature is such a huge parasite of proportions we can only vaguely guess at now and ponder just how represenative he 'is' of what has been going on by others in congress!

OnTheBall Jatfla, are you familiar with Di-Fi's family business that was exposed for skimming off of Govt contracts they'd received to take care of wounded military from the war; as a benefit of Dianne Feinstein's role as Chairman of Military Contracts? When it was exposed to how badly Di-Fi and her family had been skimming the money from the contract (according to articles on the issue), it outraged even the marxists posing as demos and rinos. Di-Fi merely resigned her Chairman's post, as though that was some kind of magical 'King's X, I'm in free' routine! This was WHY G.W. Bush ~fired~ the U.S. Atty from the region of where Di-Fi's biz was in this govt contract skimming issue. The U.S. Atty refused to go after Di-Fi and her family! The larger issue of how much money was stolen and how this translated into lost medical care for our wounded military, never seemed to attract any news reporter's attention! Sadly!

Not your typical New Yorker Kelsey, lame duck they may be but the dems are still in charge and Rangel wants to go through this process while his buddies still running the show.

Shooter1002 Jetfla, I don't believe that Rangel is being charged criminally, but simply for breaking the ethics rules of the House. Considering some of the other dirtbags in the House,i.e. Alcee Hastings who was impeached and convicted of corruption as a judge, Rangel is just a chump. Do you think Eric Holder would prosecute his fellow 'brother' Rangel?

Laurie I love Sarah and Todd but I'm not sure they're doing themselves any favors with this show. The idea of showing off Alaska is ok, I think, but the stuff in the house makes them seem a little too reality show kooky. It's more reality than I'd really like to see if she truly is contemplating a possible presidential run. And it makes them officially overexposed, kind of like I got seriously tired of Obama being everywhere. Good for them, though, if they're just seizing opportunities when they're available.

Jatfla posted on Main Page The Lobby On Hannity Pres. Bush said something that was instilled in me as a parent. You have to be respected; not loved. The respect comes later.
While immature people look to *grown-ups* and love them because they're mushy and amiable and give them what they want, in the end, it's knowing that they did what was right regardless of the circumstances. That is where the respect comes and the legacy endures. I have no regrets with my children because I was committed to doing what I thought was right. It sounded to me as though Pres. Bush had very few regrets apart from his ability to communicate his heart. I think this up-coming book gives him a chance to communicate that. I see no evil in him. However, I'm beginning to see evil in a lot of places.
November 9 at 21:30 EST .

Struan He's paraphrasing Machiavelli - "It's better to be feared than loved."
November 9 at 21:44 EST .
|

| |
Jatfla Perhaps. But I don't equate "feared" with being "respected". The interview on Hannity is so revealing. I hope many are watching it. What a day 9/11 was for us and this President!! Hindsight is 20/20 always. I remember what I was thinking...or not! As Pres. Bush said...it defined his Presidency and I don't think people realize the extent of that. I WILL read his book because I want to hear his account of the events through his own words.

Fiscon Respect? He was not respected or loved by a lot of people, and that is directly because he refused to stand up for what the Republican party should have been about, which is small government and individual freedom and responsibility. Rush said himself today it could have been what set us up with Obama as prez and a Democrat Congress. "Compassionate conservatives" have no business being in public office. They're nice people, but probably too nice.

Jatfla posted on Faith Gosh! I just saw this category! You guys have it all. :~)
I hope it's about "faith" in Jesus Christ but I believe in "freedom of religion". If yours isn't mine I'm ok with that. I believe Christianity is past killing each other over theological debates....we will have too many others trying to do that.
I call myself a "Baptist without the tithing". Non-denominational, progressive dispensationalist, pre-wrath Rapture, and a serious student of the Scriptures. :~)

Cap MarineTet68 Are you and your hubby still living a few blocks from my ancestral home? For those who wonder at the query, JATFLA and I connected via the Salon years ago, and realized we have this connection. Odd, as we live 2500 miles apart. I grew up RC, but consciously ditched it at age 14 when I discovered booze and girls. Chased those with equal success until age 39, 1987. Crashed and burned and found Hope in the 12-step rooms. First wife left becasue I would not stop drinking. Second wife left because I did. "Found" Christ (He was not hiding) on January 30, 1988, with the he'p of some wonderful men from Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, Ca. Was a techie nerd in the Silicon Valley at the time. In 2002 one big company bought another, and I was "downsized." That began a chain of events which led to Chaplaincy at the VA, Seminary, and being in the ordination track. My alcohol/drug abuse (Prov. 23:29-35), divorces, and stint in the USMC in Vietnam ('67-'68) helps inform my ministry to other veterans (1 Thess 2:8). "cap" is not my rank (actually E-5 Sgt.), but the name of a program we ran over there, called Combined Action Platoons. More info available at www.capmarine.com, run by a Marine who was on duty in Phu Bai when I was out in the field.

Phooey Jatfla, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"(Heb.11:1). I also believe that Jesus is the Christ that was prophesied in the Old Testament and revealed in the New Testament. That said, as believers let us keep our focus on faith... substance and evidence, not on wishful thinking. I really hope this will be a area where we can discuss our own faith with civility. I look forward to any and all comments, both positive or negative, just PLEASE keep it mature. I'm scared this is going to be a rocky road. (I also think the Goldbergs are scared too)

Jatfla We can do it!!! Jn. 13:35b "...By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." Love doesn't always mean agreement, but accepting differing points of view and the people who hold them. Only Christ knows those who are His. :~)

Cap MarineTet68 Thanks Southerner. I walked down the aisle in June. I now have an M. Div. with an asterisk. The asterisk represents some Hebrew Exegesis (4 units out of 144) I need to fulfill. Many M. Div. degrees are awarded after 80 or 96 units. I shoulda gone to an easier Seminary! (;-> )

Rollingcow I LOVE audio books. I sometimes get too busy to actually sit down and read a book so I was delighted to find so many of my favorites on audio. I'm always walking around with my Discman and headphones doing housework or quilting. My priest asked me one day if I were hard of hearing as he saw me out walking and called to me as he had something to tell me and thought it a golden opportunity and I ignored him and kept on going. I explained about listening to books while walking and told him I was listening to the life of St. Francis so it was okay. He now checks to see if I have head phones on before he shouts at me now. Polaris The Kite Runner is true literature. Too bad we have to wait so long for these types of books to come along. I read Hosseini's second book, "A Thousand Splendid Suns," and found it lacking by comparison...not nearly at the same level.
