4Justice posted on Blessings  I didn't get a chance to let folks know but the issue with the thugs threatening our lives (at the request of the landlord ) blew over without incident. We got a reprieve until the 15th of January. So, I need to get a bid on a house soon. It won't close by the 15th, but at least we can say it is in progress. So, thank goodness no violence came to be. Thank you to those who showed concern. Hopefully, we will find a home to buy soon. I guess that is one benefit of California having such a bad economy...I can finally afford to buy a house for the first time in my life. A lot of houses are still ridiculously priced at $700k -$900k. But there are some still under $200K. I will just need to commute a long way. No more 10 minute commute!

4Justice posted on Main Page The Lobby  California's new voting rules are proving to be idiotic just as I expected. Now they have open ballots and it is splitting the votes in weird ways. Now runoffs can be between two democrats. Also, I am seeing situations where several people in the same party will end up splitting the votes equally among them and then the other party can end up with the greater majorities because they have less people running and thus end up winning the top slots even though they could have less overall votes than the first party. It is insane!!!!!!

4Justice posted on Main Page The Lobby  I hate primaries--they are corrupt and completely unfair. We have had only 3 states weigh in so far and we are already down to 4 candidates??? What happens after Florida? We have only one left? I NEVER get to vote for my candidate over here in California because they always drop out after 2 or 3 states. That is NOT how primaries should be. Why can't all states vote on the same day?? Why do the same states always go first?? It is just plain wrong that a few yokels in a couple of states choose for the entire 50!!!

MsCharlotteVale  As I've said, by the time the primaries happened in Utah, I was down to one candidate, Juan McCain. There's something seriously wrong with our system. If my choice is between the dem and one pub, what is my choice? I have more choice in a Chinese restaurant with "pick one from column 1 and one from column 2." Does anyone really believe we still have a choice?

MsCharlotteVale  The candidates I actually liked didn't make it past Iowa and NH. Who declared Iowa and NH the King Makers? When you read about all of the "sausage making" in these states, most citizens of those states don't even vote.

Escaped commieny  4J, it is so good to see you back here. Always enjoy your comments on the mainsite. Early voting started in Florida on Sat. Last election, we had to vote absentee and our guy dropped out before the primary! They tightened it up to only 10 days this time. In mid-terms we got Rick Scott, Allen West, and Marco Rubio but I am concerned with the demo machine down here and the I-4 corridor elistists, there are still alot of Jeb establishment types pushing Romney.

Hollyhock  They start calling the race as soon as polling places start closing on the East Coast with "exit polling." In Washington they have taken our polling places away and we can now only vote by mail. Which is an open door to voter fraud. The last Presidential primary I had decided early and sent my ballot in. Then my guy dropped out. My vote is precious to me and it was wasted.
Everyone should get to vote in the primary election for all of the candidates on the same day. I can dream.
It used to be that people would see the election trending in a certain direction and they would either give up and not vote or or vote for the winner.
Don't even get me started on the women who voted for Bill Clinton because they thought he was good looking! Gak!

Escaped commieny  There are times, as a female, I regret they ever allowed women the vote! Too many look to government to be their DADDY , and I don't believe a felon or entitlement recipient should be allowed to vote due to conflict of interest, didn't the WON say we needed skin in the game (jerk )

Hollyhock  The enemy is patient if nothing else. There is a purpose for dumbing down our students in public schools.

In this state there seems to be an ongoing discussion about allowing felons and those incarcerated to vote. Now who do you think would benefit from that? Losing voting rights is part of the punishment. But what does that matter when convicts receive ballots while in prison. There is also the chance that the vote could be sold for a pack of smokes.

Texastealady  I wholeheartedly agree with 4J ~ There is no reason for ANY state to be 'first' and absolutely no reason why all states shouldn't hold their primaries on the same day. None.
In a horse race, they all start at once (logical ) and this is a 'horse' race - I don't see any difference except it's media driven and HOW they report it puts a lot of power in their hands. Since most are Liberal.....I rest my case.

Belwhatter  I want a nationwide primary day. We live in an internet era where candidates don't need to be kissing babies and and working pancake lines. Everyone in the next 46 states is disenfranchised in our present system. Hollyhock - I agree our vote means nothing , it's always over bar the shouting for us Westies.

So, it seems all the huffing and puffing about the damage caused by the oil spill is more political than real. Yes, a lot of bad things happened, but nature has a way of fixing things that go wrong. And remember, oil IS a natural resource (you know, from Nature).

4Justice posted on Politics  I just found out yesterday that now my city, San Jose, has followed suit with all the other leftist cities and is banning all plastic bags at the stores. They will also charge you if you want to BUY paper bags to carry your groceries. This is horrible! I can't carry groceries in paper bags (esp. when it rains!). And I can't buy enough cloth bags to carry around all the time. I only go to the store when it is convenient (like on the way home). Also, I USE all those plastic bags they give us. They are good for small garbage liners, kitty litter, dog doodoo, carrying small laundry, packing away stuff, etc., etc., etc. I never just throw them away. Isn't there anything we can do to stop our society from moving backwards?? This is NOT progress...this is going back in time by 100 years!!!

StormCnter  I hate plastic bags. I don't know how it is in San Jose, but in north Texas, the baggers put about 4 items in each bag, leaving me with a gazillion bags only partly filled with stuff that would have needed only two paper sacks. In addition, if you ever drive across windy west Texas, you will see plastic bags trapped on the barbed wire for miles. I hate them. Good riddance.

Starlady  I don't know if you have an IKEA near you or not. I have found there a very inexpensive plastic bag that is the same size as a paper bag. They are very attractive, have multiple graphics styles and hold a ton of groceries in each one if you don't mind carrying a ton. I have been using my original bags for at least four years as I grocery shop. We are not charged for using plastic or paper (yet), but I had read about other areas of the country doing so and decided I was tired of collecting so many of the small plastic bags and had enough of the paper also, so I decided to try these. We don't have a local IKEA, but friends and I visit areas that do several times a year and I always end up with at least one of their plastic bags.

Paget51  Nope, plastic bags serve a purpose. In addition to the uses 4Justice lists above, I use one everyday to take my lunch to work. They are also good for your customer's purchases when you have a yard sale. I can think of many uses for those bags. I also don't throw them away, I always reuse them all. We even have a local grocery store that uses biodegradable plastic bags. I do wish we had more stores that still offered paper bags. I have tons of uses for them too, and they are biodegradable. We have several fast growing hybrid poplar forests in Washington, and one right across the river near Hermiston. I guess it is still a cost issue for the stores; plastic being cheaper.

Shooter1002  What's it gonna be, paper or plastic? When I used paper, I was a 'tree killer' (like being called that kept me up at night). Now plastic rules. I prefer plastic, stronger, lighter and they have handles to hold more of them simultaneously. My kid says they recycle them where she shops so I keep them for her.
There are more trees in the US now than there were in 1900. Maybe all these trees are sucking up all the CO2 and why its so damned cold? Where's Big Al Doofus?

Angelesgift  I'd accumulated a number of re-usable bags, but rarely use them .... because I got tired of the nasty looks and outright complaints of the store clerks. It's easy for them to stuff the stuff in plastic bags in their handy little holders. I know this seems trivial, but can you imagine dealing with people giving them crumpled up and (probably) dirty bags to put food in?

Shooter1002  The CostCo in N Jersey near me doesn't give you any bags. They don't bag either. Everything goes back in the cart. They have a few little boxes lying around but my wife uses cloth bags we bought. We couldn't care less either way.

MsCharlotteVale  I save and reuse my plastic bags. The big picture is that a small group of people get to decide what products we can and can't use. As a sidenote, if plastic bags are outlawed, lots of people will lose their jobs. Where the hell does it all end???

Chillijilli  When they ask me "paper or plastic?" I summon up the straightest possible face and answer, "I don't care. I'm bi-sacksual." Older people go hysterical.    Linder  Bi-sacksual...funny! Every plastic bag gets reused at our house. I'd be buying plastic garbage bags if I didn't have grocery bags to reuse. So I have to carry out the garbage more often...not a problem.
