Straitpath  Is the greatest commandment to love God and self and fellow man? I am going to try to keep that commandment today. Feeling anxious and scared, but not terribly so. Feeling gratitude, too.

Straitpath  So I have been depressed and I know that fear and doubt are the opposite of faith, so I have begun a quest for faith. I have perfect faith that God is my Heavenly Father and that Jesus Christ is my Savior, but I am still fearful of life. Faith can move mountains. How to gain more Faith? I have been reading about it and my best answer today is that Heavenly Father will grant me more faith if I am obedient to His commandments. I am trying.

MeiDei  I have found that when I have to spend my last ounce of faith, accepting what follows, God grants me more faith sufficient for and in the nick of the time. You have a prayer partner, if not more, here. Be of good cheer.

Iacta alea est  I prayed that our Father would increase my faith. And He did. One thing He used to accomplish His will in my life was to place me in situations where I had no options EXCEPT relying on Him to "bring me thru the waters" as He promised in His word. A major tool -for me at least- was to dedicate time each day to read His word the Bible. There is an excellent pamphlet titled "Through the Bible in a Year" which gives a daily reading schedule. It goes through the Bible in chronological order, and each daily reading is no longer than a newspaper article. If you Google the title I'm confident you can find it. I join Mei in praying for you on your journey.

Straitpath  I was in bed thinking about trying to do a daily devotional. I thought about this under used site and decided to try to post a devotional comment or two regularly. My purpose is to praise God publically and I would love to have others do the same. So I got out of bed and thought I would talk about an answer to prayer I received today. I am having neighbor difficulties; someone is going to build near me who seems to want to take advantage by running a business in a residential neighborhood which would disrupt our peace and quiet. I have been very upset and had no peace of mind. I prayed for help and the answer came that I should let God fight my battles and that I should be a good neighbor no matter what. I now have peace of mind which I badly need. I am thankful.

MeiDei  Today I'm thankful for the sense of smell. Wild roses invaded my yard & are very difficult to get rid of [they're all over town]- in bloom right now and the loveliest, softly sweet, essence has now invaded my house. Refreshing!

   StormCnter  Wild roses? How neat.
I have appreciated my own sense of smell over the last few weeks when my big magnolia is covered with dinner-plate-sized blossoms. The whole area smells like lemons. I cut one bloom and brought it inside. It was fragrant for about 24 hours before fading.

BirdsNest  The fragrance outside my back door is blackberry blossoms. Not my favorite smell, they are a bit like privet hedge, super sweet. But because they will gift me with berries I will allow them to stay. I have another big mess of the wild berries near the garden. Once they have finished giving berries I plan to cut them to the ground, otherwise I will never be able to control them. My black raspberries are the same way. Very overgrown and not so I can harvest the berries much. I have potted up 8 canes and will try my best to put them somewhere they can be tended properly. I have eaten several handfuls of the berries, but the thorns are hideous, they rip the clothes right off of your body. Hagar LOVED the black raspberries. Having never had them before he got quite used to me making them in a gallette for dessert. I so miss him.

Linder  A few weeks ago I signed on to say that my little 102 yr old mother had died and remarked that sometime I wanted to tell you about her. One story that I heard for the first time at her funeral. One night in the late 30's a neighbor man came to my mother's door and said his wife had just had a baby and he needed for her to come and look after her. Mother found the dying young mother hemorrhaging so badly that blood was running on the floor. There was no nearby doctor or hospital....few people had telephones or cars. My older sisters knew of this story but what they didn't know was that many years later the oldest daughter in that poor family came to Mother's nursing home room to thank her for the dress she wore to her mother's funeral. Mother realized that the daughter didn't have a nice dress to wear to her mother's funeral and so she made a dress, claimed she had made it for herself but it was too small and asked the girl to try it on. That girl...then in her 80's...had come to thank Mother and tell her that she was an adult before she realized the dress had been made just for her and to tell Mother that she loved her for that. There were so many more stories of her kindness and her accomplishments but that is my favorite. More than one person told me later that Mother's funeral service was the nicest they had ever heard...and I have to agree. I'd like to tell you more about my mother another time.

Kono  I guess it's been awhile since we've felt blessed, or at least since anybody's come here to share a blessing.

Thank you, Linder, for sharing that story. I feel blessed for having read it, and for the Holy Spirit giving me an odd nudge to come here and dwell on blessings, on a day of worry (tomorrow we choose a new President, and both candidates inspire a mixture of hate and anxiety ).

May God bless you and have mercy on us all.

Bmoc  It's been a while since I have visited 'The Connection' as I've been busy working on a lot of things but, I return today to once again ask for the prayers of my fellow friends. Back in May of 2001, I made a small post in a comment section and I was amazed at the reaction. Lucianne posted the email I sent to her on what used to be called "Lucianne's Short Cuts." I came through that surgery quite well but again, I was amazed on the cards (Penney, I lost your card going home and I could never get through to you to say "thank you!" but I do it now. Your card meant a lot to me. Oddly enough, I was doing a web search for another site and found a post from the Lucianne archives. Within a minute, I found the page that had my post.

Well, due to another heart infection, the valve put in fifteen years ago has worked its way loose because of that heart infection and I am being admitted to the same hospital on the morning of January 27th to have it repaired. The doctor has told me several times that this is going to be a 'risky' surgery due to the damage from the heart infection. I'm not looking for sympathy, but rather prayers. Besides the fact I love my family, I'm not quite finished with my next book! (Just kidding but I do have a number of books, e-books, and audio books up on Amazon: ) Most are based on truth.

Take care and I hope to return soon. I love this place and the people who visit it. Since I found it, this site has been my home page. Carry on... I know you will!

Balogreene  An update: I am working month-to-month, depending on military funding. So, I am still applying. Pray for this. I had a phone interview, and within a couple of hours, they called back, they want an in-person interview. It's a really cool project, just exactly what I've done in the past, and will last 2-3 years. I'm 63, I hope they don't hold that against me, not only can I do the job, I've done it before.

I never held a job for more than 18 months. I've been with this company 13 years, part of me doesn't want to leave. Much of me doesn't want to leave the people I am currently working with in the lurch. But, it is MY life, MY future. I can't go on like this. I need to move on.

Surfhut  My prayer is that our Lord bring you to the right job, and bring the right job to you. Amen, Sister! FWIW, my son just lost a promotion. The promotion went to a woman with no degree. She got it because she was far older (more experience ). In my company, the down-side to hiring mature people is that health insurance is so much higher. The up-side is that we old people are better employees. We go for the maturity!
