Dwillyc posted on Main Page The Lobby  “Outrage is a substitute for religion: It convinces us that our existence has some kind of meaning or significance beyond itself, that is to say beyond the paltry flux of day-to-day existence, especially when that existence is a securely comfortable one. Therefore we go looking for things to be outraged about as anteaters look for ants. Of all emotions, outrage is not only one of the most pleasurable but also one of the most reliable.” ~ Theodore Dalrymple

GO3  "Paltry flux of day to day existence" is priceless. I wouldn't tout my globe trotting and sometimes dangerous lifestyle to others, but I laugh at the weekend warriors and think for me, boring is good. The humdrum life must really get to those suffering from affluenza. What else to do, but bicycle around the city, go rock climbing or as Dalrymple says, get outraged at the drop of a hat. Who fixes stuff around the house or play with the kids? Must be the handyman and the nanny.

There are 84 acres in Arlington,VA that the Army Historical Foundation wants to build an Army History Museum and need donations.

GO3  Don't understand the comment. This is not about the military per se but reinforcing Dalrymple's quote that some people nowadays have nothing better to do with their time than play tough guy adventurer on the weekends and/or take up the outrage of the day. When offered the opportunity, I relish doing stuff around the house or time with the family, or frankly, doing nothing and no outrage involved.

Escaped commieny  I should have marked it OT, but I hate to post on the vet wall because I copy and print for DH.
On topic, I agree with original post and your comment. I didn't mean that your comments belonged on the vet wall. sigh....

Safetydude  I have to agree with GO3, ..."boring is good."
After missing birthdays, anniversaries and a funeral, it's a pleasure to wake up each day and know(God forbid something untoward happens )I'll be going to sleep in the same place that night.
Be it Sunday or Wednesday I can open a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne, clink glasses with Miss Tina, and relish the idea that I am allowed to be bored, if I choose.

GO3  Safety sums it up rather well. My latest rant more properly belongs in Pet Peeves, but since we're on the subject I'll post it here. Speaking of "my time" the world is full of Time Bandits. Dealing with any government entity and even some private ones, usually entails gobs of time wasters preventing me from spending what little time I have with loved ones or to just be bored. The simplest task nowadays runs my life far more than it should. The current one is running the gauntlet of school financial aid for the youngest daughter. We might as well hand over our first-born male child for all the junk they require. It is much more onerous than our older kids. But my gripe really encompasses all sorts of stuff like getting driver's licenses to getting a cell phone. Horrible time wasters which can run your life for days.
