Grahamcracker posted on Pet Peeves  Has this happened to others here? I like to use the self-checkout registers when I have just a few items. Today I did just that. Ok, picture this: on one side there are 3 registers, a large space , then 3 registers on the other side of the space. I go to stand in line on the left shade and was told in no uncertain terms by a woman on the right side that she was next in line. If you are going to make a line that for the next person waiting, why not stand in the middle or make two lines ? The next man and I were talking and found the system senseless. I wasn' t the only one scolded. Someone asked the employee standing there to help if there was one line or two. She said one. Makes no sense. This happened to me at another store until they reconfigured their registers. I don't think I'll shop at that particular store any more.

StormCnter  I'm with you. At least the store should set up a Wait Here sign.

MeiDei  I was in one of our chains today and they've reconfigured three of their registers - a strict 10 items or less. There's one line & you go to next available cashier ... we had 5 items too many to take advantage.

Grahamcracker posted on Coffee Klatch  I was just made aware of a Medicaid scam. My next door neighbor is Mexican. Don't know if they're citizens, but are here legally. Her mother-in-law was staying with them for a month, then went to a daughter's home a few blocks away. The MIL has cancer. She's having chemo and radiation here. Neighbor said Medicaid is paying for it. I was confused and said she lives in Mexico. Neighbor said she' s a legal resident. She comes and goes. She sure does. She comes here for benefits and then goes back to Mexico. Neighbor's father did the same thing a couple years ago. I was confused but never asked how he could be covered by Medicaid for his chemo. What seems to be happening is the adult children say they'll sponsor mami and papi. They get their green card, hop, back to Mexico and come here when they need medical care. This is wrong on so many levels. Am I the only one that didn't know about this scam?

Grahamcracker posted on Main Page The Lobby  Not sure which page to post this, so I'm posting here. I had a rash, went to the dermatologist. He prescribed a cream. He gave me a coupon to call a mail-order pharmacy. The cost of the cream would be $35 and would be hand-delivered. Fast forward a couple months. Still am using the cream. The dr. wrote a scrip in case I ran out before my next appointment. On a whim, I looked it up on line. The cost for this cream at CVS, Walgreens, Target was $8000. This is not a misprint. There was an article about this cream. Seems as though some company bought different meds that have no generic equivalent. This particular one raised the price 4000% in 2 years. I took the scrip to Walgreens. They said their price would be $7000! I told the dr. yesterday that I would not be refilling that scrip. He was amazed at the cost. When I tell people about this, I'm sure they will think I'm lying. I just wanted to share this utterly ridiculous experience. Thanks for listening!

MeiDei  Further to this - if you're ever in need of medical hard equipment do your cost homework before going through your insurance plan. I.e., a device I had to get - rollator - was $60-80 on-line/in store without insurance, $130 co-pay with insurance & free from St. Vincent DePaul Society used but in mint condition. Lots of charities accept nearly new medical equipment, check your area.

Grahamcracker posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters  My husband ordered a leash from chewy.com for our kitty. He ordered a size small, but she needs a medium. He called the company for instructions on returning the item. He was told to keep it and donate it to a shelter. They then replaced the item and there was no shipping charge. Just want to let people know that Chewy is a great company! BTW, we did give the leash to the Almost Home Foundation, a wonderful rescue group in northern Illinois.

Balogreene  My grandmother was 1 the last time the Cubs won the Series. My 86-yr old mom was 15 the last time they made the series. She is so thrilled to see it happen again.

MeiDei  May the best team win ... both have former World Series Red Sox winners - Theo - Cubs and Terry Francona - Indians. Our loss, your good gain.

Balogreene  Billy Williams was at the game, he said his first thought as the win occurred, was of Ronnie and Ernie. I'm hoping the Indians can wait another year, their last Series win was after the last Cubs championship games!

Grahamcracker posted on Suggested Reading  For all you Lisa Scottoline fans, Damaged, her new book is very good.
I just finished a delightful history/cookbook, The Book of Lost Recipes by Jaya Saxena. It's a compilation of recipes from iconic closed restaurants. It's such a fun read.
Has anyone read John Dickerson's Whistlestop? I tried. The editing is non-existent. I thought I was being picky until I read the reviews on Amazon. Those who didn't like it were as turned off as I was by the obvious errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. There were sentences that made no sense at all. I returned it to the library after plowing through 2 chapters.

Grahamcracker posted on Computers &Tech Issues  Suddenly I'm getting game pop-up ads on a site I visit daily. I installed ad blocker plus on my laptop per recommendations here. However, when I tried to install it on my iPad, I get the message that Safari can't install ABP. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Tulsa  I know diddly about iPads, but I'll look it up for you. I searched 'intall ABP on Safari'. Link below.

https://adblockplus.org/en/safari At the top of that link is 'Report an issue". Pls try that. I think you email them and wait to hear.

Then see article at CNET para. 4 re bugs and issues.

ll-adblock-plus-on-safari/

One more option. If the first two don't help, read the link below thoroughly. I'd read it two or three times. I might even print it in order to refer to it for install.

adblock-plus-on-safari/

The first link says easy peasy. You're saying not so. I'm seeing there 'were' bugs but they have been fixed. Again, apparently, not so.

So...I hope something above helps. ...um...the links may be hot once I comment, if not you'll you have to paste them into your browser. It may be a bit of work, but it will be worth it, imo.

Grahamcracker  Thank you, Tulsa, for your help. You really went the extra mile! I tried to install ABP according to directions and it appears as though there is a charge for it. I found that odd as ABP was free when I installed it on my laptop. I did the soft reboot recommended in the Apple link. I still get the pop up on the site I had problems with before. Guess I'll only go to that site on my laptop. Again, thanks so much, Tulsa. Your kindness is appreciated.
