MeiDei  May the best team win, absent questionable calls & dirty play. As for me, I'm with Maxine today.

Clipped wings  This weekend will be the division championship games to determine the teams for the Super Bowl. For the first time in what seems like forever, I really like three of the four teams. To be fair, the 4th team probably deserves to be there - just not a favorite. Should be fun.

Iacta alea est  Getting to this late. The Mets had a good run. Seeing a series between the Cubs & Mets felt good in the sense of what the rivalries were like when both teams were in the same division. But in the end the Mets were just not the better team. The Royals were better. As the old Brooklyn Dodger fans always had to say..."Wait 'til next year!"

Balogreene  Buzz, you see the Cubbies are in the post-season, and, if in any other division, would win it, not just be a wildcard?

Ole buzzard  Well, it's my favorite time of the year again: Football, both college and NFL. And what better way to start the NFL season than with the longest running rivalry in all of professional sports: Packers at Bears?

Balogreene  Do you realize the Cubs are above 500? They are in 3rd in their Division. My Mets fan-boss says we are helping the Mets, every time we beat the Nats (2 out of 3 )

Iacta alea est  Balo, my Mets bona fides are these: saw my first Mets game in 1962 at the Polo Grounds. I've been a Mets fan as long as there've been Mets. That the Mets are still high in the standings is no surprise, in fact it is pretty standard behavior for them. The slide out of contention usually begins shortly after Memorial Day, and in truth it may have already begun. I always try to believe "this year will be different", but that's only happened twice. Go easy on your boss, more than likely he's got a summer of disappointment ahead of him.

Balogreene  Iacta, I'm a 63-year Cubs fan, the last World Series they were in was before my 85-yr-old mom was born. I don't feel sorry for Met's fans, I still remember the summer (68? 69? ) they won it out from under us in September!

Iacta alea est  Yeah,'69 was a good year for the Mets, do you remember who Jimmy Qualls is? He was the Cub (infielder, I think ) who broke up Tom Seaver's bid for a no hitter with a single after 8-2/3. I think that was '69 too. And BTW the Mets have begun their slide....they're now in second, have lost 4 in a row only 1.5 games ahead of Atlanta and about to be swept by those same Braves....all is back to normal.
