Linder posted on Main Page The Lobby  Wishing you all a Happy New Year! Awoke at 4:45 this morning to Iowa's -19 degrees. You forget from year to year what extreme cold feels like and the sound of snow squeaking underfoot. Out at daybreak to feed the waiting birds. The little juncos are always first. Of course, Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal are my favorites and come only twice a day. The constant activity of birds and squirrels make winter more enjoyable.

MeiDei  Good for you Linder. No venturing outside for me, I open the door and toss bird seed & suet in small pieces as we have Rambo-like squirrels that take the suet cages with them ; )

Surfhut  Me, too. Many of us lived through the Nixon times and thought we were living and seeing history. We were. We are now seeing it again, globally. Make the World Great Again!

StormCnter  Linder, I cannot speak for Florida, but we Texans have learned our lessons from those years in the past with Democrat governors.

Linder  Woke to a nice shower here in southern Iowa and appreciate every drop of rain. Have cut back on flowers this year with only two pots mixed with white geranium, white petunias and German ivy and a raised bed of the lowly zinnia.

StormCnter  Lucky you, Linder. I love green beans (snap beans in Texas ) and new potatoes. As for your cutting back on the flowers, I found that caring for the many inside and outside pots of flora were requiring more of my time than if I ran a daycare center. I, too, cut it all back to just the few I can keep watered and trimmed without dedicating my life to it.

Linder  Well, that was fun. Just finished pressure canning 7 pints of green beans. Haven't done that for several years and felt like a first time learner. Can't wait to do it again. Listening to the jars ping...4 to go.

Linder posted on Blessings  I got to see the peonies bloom another time....as I turn 73 this summer I'm beginning to realize I won't be here forever....and finding greater appreciation of things taken for granted. Peonies may be my favorite flower....so gorgeous!

Linder posted on Main Page The Lobby  Watching the reading of names of the 9/11 victims. Remembering the attack on our country seems personally more acute this year. Tried to watch the President speak but his delivery seemed as rote as reading a grocery list. Then heard Hillary may have suffered a health episode and was whisked away from the memorial site. I don't wish her ill...but they should be honest with us if she isn't well. The American people are accepting of the truth.... Feeling unsettled this morning.

Linder posted on Coffee Klatch  Indulge me in a little whine....I agreed to sit on the primary election board and that means I go for training tomorrow afternoon and spend Tuesday from 7am until 9pm at the election site. Even tho I don't like to give up my time I know it's important to participate in government.

Alice  Thanks for doing it :- ) I hope you and the others on the board plan tasty refreshments for election day, too! You'll likely need them. Even if you only drink water, it needs to be good for a long day like that. I hope all goes smoothly for your state and the other 4.

StormCnter  I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to help with our local elections, sometimes as judge and sometimes just one of the worker bees, but it's a treat and accomplishes something at the same time.

Linder posted on Coffee Klatch  Just home from the Iowa GOP Convention. What a great day. Iowa Republicans definitely showed our appreciation for our Senators Charles Grassley and Joni Ernst, our longest serving Governor in the U.S., Gov. Branstad and our 3 (out of 4 ) District Congressmen. So many standing O's. I've been a delegate to these conventions for the past 40 years and enthusiasm was as high today as I've ever seen it. Heard nothing but assurances of support for Donal Trump. What a great day!

Linder posted on Coffee Klatch  Getting ready to leave early in the morning for District Republican Convention. Sitting on the rules committee and we will meet early to consider proposing a common sense rule change to expedite choosing delegates to the National Convention. The first time I was a county delegate to district and state conventions was the year Reagan challenged Pres. Ford and it was great fun...the last time that every delegate mattered and was wooed. Have been a delegate to many uneventful conventions since and it looks like another fun one is happening. I'm looking forward to it.
