MeiDei  Hey, Cinco de Mayo (5/5 ) is like our 4th of July, it's when Mexico defeated the French ... it's not made up : ) laughing here, I think I'll treat us with some cheese & jalapeno quesadillas now! Good solve BTW.

For Star Wars fans yesterday was "May the Fourth be With You" and today is "the Revenge of the Fifth" ... and if you prefer Star Trek Spock says: "Live long & prosper:..

MeiDei  As soon as July 4th was written I thought it would have been better to mention a day celebrating a victory i.e., Patriots Day. Yes it commemorates Mexico's defeat of the French forces. I'd love a Margarita right now but it will have to be V-8 ; )

StormCnter  Mei, the quiz is clever. Well done.

No, Cinco de Mayo isn't "made-up", but it has zero/nada/nothing to do with the US. It's a very big deal in Mexico and has been imported here to the extent that some schools have made it a holiday.

Grahamcracker  I’m posting on this wall as I want it to reach as many as possible. First of all, I’m on Medicare. Second, I have 2 chronic diseases: heart and kidney. Third, I have been hospitalized 2x this year. The other day Inwas at my dr.’s office. I saw his PA. When we were finished she told me she had to give me this info. They are part of a program called CCM. From what I understand, it is a government program that covers those with chronic illnesses. You get a social worker, nurse, and many other health aides. The PA was apologetic for bringing this up. I didn’t have to sign up then and said I would look into it. I found it on line, quickly browsed the info. My impression is it’s the camel’s nose under the tent, the first step toward single payer. My question is do any of you know about this program? Your opinion? It would be great if some of you would read the description of this program. Anything that has to do with the government raises my suspicions. By the way, CCM stands for chronic care management. Any information from you would be appreciated. Thanks.

StormCnter  Grahamcracker, my 74 year old brother is a Parkinson's patient. He is pretty mobile (with the help of a walker ), but suffers from the many manifestations of his disease. He benefits greatly from the program you describe, although I am not familiar with the CCM term. The visiting nurse has been the biggest benefit for him. She is available almost all the time and responds very quickly when he has a medical crisis, plus she schedules regular visits and is in ongoing contact with his various doctors. I'm not sure how he could get along without these services, as he and my sister-in-law live in a very small West Texas town a long way from many sophisticated medical services. It's very much appreciated specialized oversight and I am not aware of any federal intrusion into his life.

Tulsa  Another way to avoid ads altogether everywhere is to download and use the Brave.com browser. No ads. None.

I downloaded it 2? years ago, but seldom used it. I used Firefox and the Edge browser that came with Win. 10. One day recently Edge disappeared from this desktop. Our tech spent a couple of hours trying to retrieve it or re-download it with no success.

A few weeks later Edge disappeared from The Suit's laptop. So I downloaded Brave for him and used my settings. It took me a while to find my way around. What I lack in tech savvy, I make up in being tenacious. Happy surfing, Ldotters!

Kono  I wish you all better success with this approach than I've had. For the first week or two of using brave I found it to be the refuge its fans touted; but after a couple of weeks I get nearly as many ads on brave as I have on firefox.

The advertisers will find a way to get to you, and there is seemingly no escape from their stalking.

Kono  Oy! The ads on the mother site seem to have gone from annoying to harassing. When the page is scrolled, the side bar ads scroll themselves back into view. Together with the ads embedded in the site content (which do scroll with the content ), they're becoming the dominant feature of the page, more so than the content, itself.

That might not be so insufferable if the ads, themselves, weren't among the grossest caricatures of stupid tabloid trash, good f***ing grief!!!

StormCnter  I just ignore them, Kono. With other news sites demanding adblockers be disabled before we can view anything, the Lucianne site isn't any worse than those. It's just too much trouble to go through all the steps to eliminate the Lucianne ads and then the steps frequently have to be repeated next time.

Kono  I appreciate your effort to talk me off the ledge (metaphorically speaking ), StormCntr.

Maybe you can just ignore them, even though they counter every move of the window to get back into the center of view. But I can't. They're as bad as the embedded videos on sites like sfgate or DM (which fly to the screen's corner if scrolled out of view, and if closed there by the user, retreat to their original place in PLAY mode, requiring another insistent GO AWAY click to stop them (pause ).

A $50/year subscription to an ad-free experience here would be well worth it. But that option isn't offered. Resistance is futile.

Escaped commieny  What are using for a browser ?? I use Firefox with Adblock Plus and all permissions denied and never have any ads. Do you have the little i in a circle ( info ) click and deny permissions. Just block every thing. We covered this months ago, you may have to scroll way down on the Tech Issue wall. I rarely check in, for a few favorite posters, but occasionally see who are having trouble so hope that wall helps.

Texastealady  I'm here today for just this reason. Haven't been here in awhile and wanted to see if anyone else HATES those ads! Worse, one of those sites thinks I'm a man "seeking a ____woman" Fill in the blank, today it's an Arab woman in Portland which is a small town about 40 miles from where I live. Ye Gods! FIRST I'm a W O M A N and I like/love men. It's driving me crazy = oh, and my browser is Firefox and I have uBlock Origin and Adblock Plus and AdBlocker Ultimate for good measure. PUHLEESE HELP!!!!

Kono  Thanks for your efforts to guide a few desperate ad-fleeing souls, Escaped.

The ads harass me in both firefox and brave; no matter how I tweak the settings on adblock plus and ghostery. Clicked the circle 'i' in firefox and the info window that came up said there were no permissions in existence for that page; and I suppose I can only deny permissions that are there, unless this is a deeper metaphysical mystery than the musings of Karl Rahner (a concept that makes me smile - thanks ).

Tulsa  I'm in FF with ABP (Adblock Plus ) and have no ads. Lucianne said some people see them and some don't. It depends on your browser, your settings and having ABP.

EC is correct. There are directions to eliminate them under site settings.

Tulsa  Texastealady, too many adblockers fight. They cancel out each other. Adblock Plus will do nicely and then do what EC suggested and go to site permissions and deny all.

Go to the computers and tech wall and scroll down and click next page (go back ) until you find the discussion on site permissions. You might do the same on this page as we've had discussions here on the same subject.

It may be many pages back, but it's there. Just look. Very best wishes.
