   Tulsa  Kono. LucianneG@aol.com

That is Miss Luci's email. Direct your comments about the ads to her. She is the only one who can do anything about them. I don't know a soul that like ads. And there have been many complaints here about them. I have no idea if Miss Luci takes the time to read here or not.

The ads were never here for a decade +/-? Then they were here and then they disappeared. Now they are back. I can't explain it.

Tulsa  Can anyone help Kono? See below. He/She is using Brave and getting ads intermittently.
I can't find a reason. Phooey? Lonestar Jack? Any Brave user.

I'm in Win. 10. Brave is supposed to work for Windows and Mac. TIA

Tulsa  Ldotters. If you have a problem with the board, you need to contact Mrs. Lucianne or Luis at the contact addresses direct on the home page.

The information about the Brave browser for NO ads has been on the Lobby Wall and on the Computer and Tech wall for months and months.

I checked and HopeandGlory has no email address under profile, so unless H&G checks back the message below posted by Phooey will never be seen.

I don't know what else to do to help get word out and about about this. If anyone has a suggestion, pls comment here. Sincere thanks and God Bless America and each of you.

HopeandGlory  I was hoping they'd be gone by now, but, the freaking annoying disgusting Ads are still on the main page.I find I'm visiting there less and less . . . Luis, please fix this intrusion into our already frustrating lives!

Tulsa  I have ABP on Edge, FF and Brave. All the stops (popups, tracking, ads, etc ) are under 'shields' on the Brave browser. No ads.

Very much like setting up Firefox. I think it's easier. I downloaded Brave over a year ago, so my screens do not look like the newer downloads. If you see the toolbar, click Edit then settings, then go thru and set up everything. It does not take long. If you get frustrated, step away and come back.

If you can find a Brave forum to read up, that helps too. Just do a search.

Oh...newer versions have a pay tab I hear. Brave is free. I believe? I right clicked and deleted that tab.

Updates are called 'relaunch'. It will say 'Hello. There is an update.' It only takes a few seconds.

Hello Phooey. Best wishes HopeandGory

Tulsa  I am SO tickled you saw our replies. I even posted at the Movie wall about this.

I promise H&G it at minimum it's a tie between us on computer knowledge. I'm just too frugal to call a tech every time I need one. It's self defense to read and do it myself. We still pay to have our pcs set up out of the box when we must replace them. ...but we have a great guy who does it for a pittance. He does all our neighbors. Praise the Lord you saw our message.

Kono  Been using only Brave for Lcom sites for about a month now, and have found it effective against the ad barrage, even if it has a number of annoying 'features'. The abominable ads returned for me late yesterday.

Maybe it will be a temporary failure again (last time it went away after a day ). But there are a lot of sites offering an ad-free experience for those who buy site subscriptions. Wouldn't it be civilized if Lcom at least allowed ldotters who feed the bandwidth beast the same?

Tulsa  I do not understand why you have ads. ??? Do you have ABP as well as surfing in Brave? I'll search this question and see if I can find anything. Check Shields settings carefully, Kono.

Tulsa  Under 'security' under 'private data' all of those are turned on. I then have 'don't manage passwords' and 'enable autofil'.

Under 'shield's I have block all ads, block all cookies and block all fingerprinting. I have httpS everywhere on and block phishing/malware on. then I have show blocked ads in shield.

I did read that an ad blocker would cause ads, but I have APB and have no problems. I also read there are 2 versions of Brave. I don't see a date of the article. One says it's free if you pay/subscribe and the other you get ads and are paid in bitcoin. I have no idea what that is all about. May be old info. I hope something I've written helps.

MeiDei  Yes! I'm impressed by the artful use of, what must have been, thousands of lighted drones.

The Winter Olympics are my favorite. Must watch events are: the ski jumps, luge, bobsleds, snow boards & figure skating with biathlon (ski/archery ) coming in as nice to see w/some downhill skiing (moguls, etc. ) rounding out the viewing.

Tulsa  No! I watched The Odd Life of Timothy Green and a rerun of the Beeb version of Antiques Roadshow. It was in Liverpool and held at the most amazing Catholic church, which is a work of art! The stained glass the carved stone made to roll in front of the Tomb of Christ. Just glorious. Uber modern above and brick tunnels and rooms below.

If it's not nfl everynight, it's Frosty or It's a Wonderful Life for the zillionth time. I prefer regular programming. It's as if the nets see how far from regular/normal they can go. With the o's there is little to watch for 3 weeks. So I've been preparing by recording shows. ...those and HGTV and DIY will do very nicely.

It's lovely there is something for everyone, isn't it.

   Sunhan65  Dear all,

Some week's ago, a poster on this thread http://www.lucianne.com/thread/?artnum=931548 about Trump Derangement Syndrome asked me to post the text of a complaint I filed to with Canadian border protection agency over a public official making anti-Trump comments to me.

As requested, I've attached the text of my complaint below with apologies to L-Dotter DonQuijote for my late reply. (I've cut out some personally identifiable details ). Hope it helps!

Best wishes,
Sunhan65
P.S. Canadians are good people and generally better-behaved and more courteous than this official indicates. This was sufficiently unusual and offensive that I wanted to make it clear how out of character and unacceptable it was.

Nature of Inquiry: Complaint
Date: 08/11/2017
Time: 7:10 am
Departing Airport: Calgary Airport
Question/comment/complaint:

"I am a Canadian-American dual citizen who travels every week through Calgary Airport. I deal with airport security on both ends as appropriately and courteously as I can. However, at 7:15pm on August 10th after my inbound flight from the United States, I was selected for random laptop screening on my way to my connecting flight.

After I put my U.S. passport on the desk, your screener greeted me with "Thank you Mr. Trump!" I literally did not know what she was talking about. I thought she had misread my name. When I asked her what she meant, she explained to me that it was all Donald Trump's fault that I was being selected for random screening. Whether this is true or not (it isn't ), is not the point.

As an American citizen. I do not appreciate having political commentary about my nationality inflicted on me at Canada's borders by public servants, particularly when these criticisms are directed against my parents' country of birth.

As a Canadian, I'm ashamed that an official who represents my country to incoming visitors would make such an ignorant and thoughtless remark. I immediately informed your agent that this conduct was both unwelcome and unacceptable. (For the record, I have never heard such a comment while traveling through American airport security. They are always unfailingly professional and polite. )

I don't appreciate having comments directed at any nationality by a civil servant who represents Canada to incoming visitors from around the world. I expect this to be investigated, and I expect this employee to be properly counseled and disciplined.

If you have further questions about this incident, please feel free to contact me directly.

I feel sufficiently strongly about this to make an issue out of it.

Best regards,
[Name and contact details withheld]

Tulsa  Two ad blockers will fight and you will have ads. I read that somewhere long ago. Iows, more is not better.

Check your settings on Brave. I think they are under
Edit at the bottom of that window. Make certain pop ups are blocked. I get frustrated when I'm unfamiliar with a browser. I haven't had to use Brave in a long time, so it needs a tune up. Go thru each option and set them. It is worth your time as ads are here to stay. You'll also find it will tell you it needs (can't remember the word ) click ok or yes and you will be removed from whatever site you are visiting when it ? (refreshes/recalibrates...I'm blank at the moment ) It only takes seconds and doesn't happen often.

Tulsa  Ok, Lucky5. Chrome is a browser. Brave is a browser. No ads with Brave. If you are using Chrome and getting ads, stop using Chrome. I think? that's what you said.

Kono  Thanks for the hot tip. Seeing the compliments from users here motivated me to try the brave browser.

I downloaded it but can't find anything that shows the layout of the window and where to find things like bookmarks. The three-dot icon at upper right offers to open bookmark list for editing, but shows no bookmarks at all even after telling it to import all my firefox settings (and yes, after turning firefox off like the instructions say to do ).

For me, getting started means showing the basic window layout, not how to set up payments (which is the only hit a search for 'getting started' or 'overview' finds ). I'll look at it again later; but right now I'm plumb out of patience.

Tulsa  There is no charge. Brave is free. It took 2 tries to download/transfer bookmarks to Brave from FF and from Edge.

I'm currently in Brave. Across the top of the page it reads: File, Edit (where you will find settings ) View, History, Bookmarks (aka favorites from FF and Edge or whatever browser you download )Shields (don't know what that is and don't care ) Window (I also ignore this one ) and Help

Everything you need. Set up is more simple than FF. All under 'settings' which is under EDIT.

Maybe rest and go at it fresh another time. Read up on Brave. That's how I learned how to use it. I just kept reading until things 'dawned' on me bc I can be extremely obtuse and I'm so right brain I need a map to the left brain. I am so not technical. I don't like or enjoy this stuff. Not at all. It is simply necessary as I don't want a tech constantly at the house.

Hope something I typed helps, Kono.

Lonestar Jack  I have used Brave for a long time since White Hat Security issued the following statement:

The WhiteHat Aviator™ Web Browser

Thank you to everyone who has supported and used Aviator! WhiteHat Security has received tremendous support and feedback for the project since it’s launch in October 2013. In January 2015, we decided to make Aviator an open source project, making it possible for the community to continue to build on it. WhiteHat Security will no longer be providing support or development resources for Aviator.

Both are excellent and really speedup those sites with lots of Javascript goodies and images.
