MeiDei posted on Movies & Reviews 1988 movie (twist ) This is a Sherlock Holmes story with a difference. Here Dr Watson is the ace detective and has been using an actor to play the part Holmes. Holmes is a drunken actor and gets on Watson's nerves. When Watson tries to go it alone, he doesn't have much success, so he is forced to let Holmes take all the credit once more. Movie - actors?
MeiDei For some reason I can't open the link to watch, suggesting I shut down & try again later ... so disappointing as the comments say it's a funny movie. Even tried a different link - no luck w/Google Chrome today, I keep having to log out & log back in to post on this site - but nowhere else.

MeiDei posted on Movies & Reviews At the risk of running "Rebecca" into the ground, I came across a 1979 version starring Jeremy Brett --- I'll post only the first of several continuous you tube sessions (the rest follow in order without having to resubmit the next in series ). I have to say that this is my favorite version among the two already discussed. What say you?

MeiDei well I tested it & it didn't go to the next installment so if you're interested either ask here or hit the upper left side of the frame to go to you tube directly & search for the next one on the right side bar. Funny how sometimes these work and then don't.

HopeandGlory I think this one is with Joanna David as Rebecca.

MeiDei Yes it is, Anna Massey is Mrs. Danvers - excellent casting. i just hit the title &episode in the upper left corner (rather than the arrow ) and the series proceeds automatically. IMHO Jeremy Brett always exceeded in whatever role he had.

MeiDei posted on Movies & Reviews As written in IMDb: "Given his aristocratic bearing, perfect diction and resounding bass voice, it's not hard to believe that he was an experienced Shakespearean stage actor. It's quite rather harder to believe that he was born in Brooklyn, not London, but that's where he was from. An extremely well-educated man--Phi Beta Kappa, a Master's degree in French and a Ph.D in theater- starred in many stage, big & small screen productions." Can you name him?

MeiDei My apologies to Arnold Moss - I should have included his appearances in some well known films as well as including a clip of him speaking - what resonance.

MeiDei posted on Movies & Reviews Just watched the ad for the movie "The Mountain Between Us" - it opens 10/6, here's the trailer:
Richdet Thank you for posting the Leigh screen test. All the more so because YouTube shows the Joan Fontaine test immediately after, so you can compare. Couple of observations:
Interesting that Larry O participated in Vivien's (initial? ) test, but apparently not Joan's. She is fed lines off camera by some anonymous person, but still manages to be way more effective than Leigh, who seems basically okay/competent in the part. Fontaine seems to "get" her character at a deeper level, all on her own.
That said, I noticed a remark on YouTube that Fontaine keenly felt Olivier's annoyance at her casting all during the movie, and Hitchcock fed that insecurity. So on some level, the absent Vivien Leigh loomed over the production much like "Rebecca," and Hitchcock functioned as Mrs. Danvers, reminding Fontaine that Larry was not happy with her. Looked at that way, wiley Hitchcock fostered an atmosphere that helped Fontaine relate to her character's situation, certainly enhancing her work.

MeiDei A few times during Viv's screen test I saw the makings of Scarlett O'Hara emerge.

MeiDei posted on Movies & Reviews 2009 drama Ben Kalman is aging: he has heart problems, his marriage is over, he's lost a fortune after being caught cutting corners in his East Coast car business, and he's sleeping with as many women as possible - the younger the better. He's chosen his current girlfriend, Jordan, because her father can help him get a new auto dealership; she's asked him to escort her daughter, Allyson, 18, on a visit to a Boston college campus. He behaves badly, and there are consequences to his love life, his finances, and his relationship with his daughter and grandson. Is there anywhere he can turn?

Gram77 I think that is Danny Divito on the right. Don't know the other fella or the movie. Sounds like it would be good though.

MeiDei That is Danny. I got turned off because of the main character's shortcomings, I couldn't find anything commendable about him, but critics called it a comedy and raved about it. I watched the PBS version of "Rebecca" w/Charles Dance & Diana Rigg instead : )
