BirdsNest  About once a week I get really sad, missing Hagar and not wanting to come home . My house is not empty, there are parrots and Melvin(Hagars bird ), but Hagar is not here. I should be getting used to this. Still there are people that ask after him. I am happy to know so many people cared about him, but they get embarrassed when they are told he has passed. That doedn' t upset me at the time. I don't want to make them cringe. Yesterday my friend who is an EMT called me on her way home from a 24 hr shift. She mentioned her partner had a call, the person had died
Later she called to tell me the person that had passed was 33 yrs old and his 4 yr old called 911. The wife was at work. I feel very badly for this young woman. She is so devastated. I have been praying for her and her son.

Gerty  Hello, Miss Birdie. Sometimes I wish I were better at using words to accurately express my feelings....like now. If I were there with you, I would just hug you and share the loss you are feeling.

I will have to settle for a cyber hug. But my thoughts and prayers are not confined by the mundane...may you know and feel the comfort of the love of Hagar and the Lord.

MeiDei  It's good to talk about him, part of the healing process. He was, and is, an important part of your life - share the memories; ask others to do the same.
When Gerty lets go, you have a cyber hug from me too ; )

BirdsNest  Thank you all. Today was one of those days. Hagar's birthday is next Tuesday and I have plans to sprinkle some ashes in his favorite places. After being at the flea market with so many wonderful people I hated to come home.

StarFire  I’ve been quiet on The Connection lately due to the usual ups and downs of everyday life: minor knee surgery, a series of health issues (all under control now ), doing some minor décor projects & major repair projects on the house, settling into retirement, Grandkid #2 graduating & finding a good job, Grandkid #1 moving in, moving out, moving in again and then moving back to Texas for a good job.

Recently my son-in-law, Jay, left his nine-year career in the Army for a great civilian job and a slot in the Army Reserves. After about four months at his new civilian job, he has been diagnosed with stage IIB stomach cancer. The good news is he is young (42yo ) and otherwise healthy. Best case scenario, he will undergo nine - ten weeks of chemo, surgery, and another nine-ten weeks of chemo. He will be treated at the VA/Vanderbilt Cancer center 60 miles south in Nashville.

We have no idea how long he will be able to work or if his employer will allow him a medical LOA. Tori will apply with the VA to be his personal caretaker. She works at home and can adjust her hours to care for him and go with him to treatments.

Please add Jay, Tori and the kids to your thoughts and prayers. They will need strength for healing and for the emotional rollercoaster they are on now.

MeiDei  Yes, of course - I pray that they also be shielded against all forms of negativity - real or unintentional, or through doubtful thinking. How many days a week will he get chemo?

StarFire  The chemo will be once a week for nine weeks before the surgery. Then he will recover before undergoing surgery. Finally, he will have another nine weeks of chemo.
We expect the surgeon to put in the chemo port next week.

MeiDei  I still have my port in "just in case" which thankfully hasn't been necessary [soon to be 7 years cancer free]. He must stay hydrated and eat. Once a week is tough, especially before surgery, but doable ... will concentrate my prayers in that area also. His doctors, nurses & technicians will be covered in prayer as well.
Be of good cheer & think positively ... avoid the doubts and doubters.

Gram77  Be patient with yourself and pleased don't have shame. Anger comes into all our lives at some point in time and facing things only one day at a time helps. Please accept my prayers and trust in a Higher Power.

MeiDei  Recognizing our shortcomings is 1/2 the battle. Speak to your Mom about it. When dealing with sickness and death most feel frustration, or some guilt; be kind to yourself & you'll find being kind to others will follow. You're in my prayers - but not for patience - be thankful for whatever amount you have. When praying for patience you invite far too many opportunities to exercise it & become over-burdened.

Iacta alea est  I haven't been here for a few days.....Thanks so much Mei for your prayers, advice and kindness. And you're so right about what you say regarding praying for patience. I'm reminded of the old quip that goes..."God, please give me patience and do it right now!" You are in my prayers too. Thanks again for the friendship....much love from me
to you and all you love.
