Ramona posted on Computers &Tech Issues  Here's a question I'm sure will generate expert advice from Ldotters: Verizon is getting out of the email business so I need to choose a new provider. I could go with AOL and transfer my current verizon email. What advice do you all have for an email provider that is reliable, good at eliminating spam, not too expensive? Thanks a bunch!

GO3  I have had Reagan.com for several years and no complaints whatsoever on their web mail service. However, their iPad/Phone app is garbage. Tried it twice and would never recommend it.

StormCnter  Ramona, I get a lot of humorous abuse from friends because I have been with AOL for almost 20 years, but it's free, I can store saved emails in huge numbers, they do a fair job (not excellent but fair ) of weeding out the spam, I've never (knock wood ) had my address book hacked. And did I mention it's free? [grin]

Ramona  Thanks for the heads up on AOL - that would be the most convenient because of the arrangement with Verizon,

Tulsa  StormCnter is correct. Free is unbeatable. I have a friend who uses Hotmail, another free product and has forever.

We always buy MS Office when we purchase pcs and use their email program from our homepage. We don't have to go on line and sign in. Originally bought Office for Word and spell check in the email program...used to be Outlook Express, then it was Windows Live Mail and now its MS Outlook. But it's not free. Free is best.

Friends of Kevin Coughlin (capMarine ) may get an audio recording of his memorial service from his church. They are asking for $7.00 for a 2-CD set. Here is the information:

Ramona posted on Faith  This morning I am praying that the memorial for our Kevin(1-3 this afternoon at Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto ) will be a blessed event for all who attend, especially his daughters and grandchildren. They are expecting a packed house. So many of us would love to be there.

I always enjoyed hearing Kevin tell stories of his childhood. He remembered his first dance, stepping on some poor little girl's toes because he was clumsy. I told him that I wasn't allowed to dance (mother associated dancing with the alcohol abuse and philandering of her dad ) but I told him that I will dance in heaven. This is the song I then shared with him.

Surfhut  Very nice. I, too, will dance in Heaven with Cap one fine day. My prayers continue for the comfort of his family and friends.

Again, Ramona ... you are not a pest!

Ramona posted on Main Page The Lobby  The memorial for our dear friend, Kevin Coughlin (capMarineTet68 ) will be held at his church in Palo Alto this afternoon. I hope one or two L.Dotters will be there to give us a report. Yesterday I spent nearly 2 hours with a despondent undergraduate and the words I was able to share with her came straight from Kevin. I am so grateful for the years of friendship with him and will post something else over on the Faith wall.

Congratulations to Zzzghy on the job - and not just a job but THE job. So glad you didn't give up!

Ramona posted on Main Page The Lobby  On this Resurrection Sunday, Veritas' words (below ) have such special significance. I awoke this morning with another Kevin story - the shock is wearing off and specifics come to mind. His phone number, 365-0911, was the invitation to call him: (365, any day of the year, 0, for no reason at all, 911, for any reason at all ). I called him last semester when a student in my practicum, a 30-something vet, was exhibiting signs of emotional instability but refused my requests for him to seek help from veteran's services. He denied having PTSD. Kevin helped me understand what was going on and gave me specific words and phrases to use with him. His advice helped not only me but the student as well, who was able to complete the course and then take more appropriate steps for himself.

It should also be noted that Kevin completed a Master's program in pastoral counseling that was more academically rigorous than many Ph.d. programs. Veritas, you are spot on about this world being a "testing place, not a resting place. Kevin saw the signs of the times and did not retreat from engagement - he relished it, he prepared himself for it, and he excelled. What a blessing he was to me. To us.

Now Kevin sings the praises of our risen Savior, basking in the light of His glory. When I look at the cross behind the altar today, the shrouds of Good Friday removed, I will see that great smile and hear that wonderful voice. And thank God for having known Kevin and for being part of this amazing family.

Ramona posted on Main Page The Lobby  How precious and comforting it is to read these remembrances of our friend.

Kevin's daughter contacted me the other day as she was starting to go through his email list (a rather overwhelming task, as you can imagine. That is how I found out why I had not heard from him lately. In her second note this is what she wrote:

"Can I ask a quick question?....what is Lucianne.com....my computer savvy friend came to help me last night (I only have an iPhone-no computer....complete opposite of my genius dad! ) and she said there were like 100+ 'window tabs' open to the site. We didn't really want to go thru everything that was open."

Until the end Kevin was here with us, though no longer posting. And while Melissa knew her dad had touched many lives, she wasn't even aware of us here. So I sent her the contributions from the first day and she responded: "Wow...I waited till I could sit down for a moment to read maybe three or four people's comments. Not surprised there were more....ah-he touched sooo many lives!!! I'm am just so thankful you forwarded these beautiful words to me....many many many thanks ((hugs to you all ) )"

FYI, I am compiling these messages in a Word file and will send the rest to her later. Just wait 'til she sees what has been added! No doubt those of you on Kevin's contact list will hearfrom her, too. She also wrote, "I do have a lot on my plate....so if I don't respond to each friend, or in a timely manner....I hope no one takes offense."

Love to all,

TruthandJustice  Hi Ramona, I tried a search to pull up Cap's posts..any of his posts but came up with a blank. I will truly miss Cap and his rye posts...and if you've captured some of them, would you post them here. I am sad when I would go to look for Cap and for Photoonist ( is Photoonist passed too? Or deeply disturbed by the Nov 6 loss as we all are ). If you have some of Caps posts I'd really love to see them...I'm worn down by the country and Cap always buoyed the conversation.
