Seminolesecure posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters  Our shelter cat and our formerly feral cat who arrived a year ago as an adorable scaredy cat/kitten. AKA Blob and son of blob. Real names Buddy & Freddy after an all you can eat buffet joint in FL. One of them certainly looks like a regular buffet patron. We are co-dependent...

Seminolesecure posted on Dogs, Cats & Critters  Here's our shelter cat. He won life's lotto by being super cute and affectionately head butting my neck from his eye level open cage door. He overcame the fact that I was specifically looking for an orange and white cat and had NO INTEREST in another black cat. My husband said, "he had you at head butt." We later found out, during an x-ray for an unrelated problem, that he'd been shot in his first year before we got him. The bullet is there for all to see. He loves life and I think has forgotten all about his ghetto year!

Balogreene  Last I heard (this morning ), he's down about 12,000 votes. Apparently VA law requires a poll of all precincts to ensure they counted all absentee ballots, and sent all the right numbers to the state (or whoever ). This may take some time.

The RNC did not feel like spending any $$ in Va would help Gillespie at all, they were sure Warner had it locked up.

Seminolesecure  Tonight I heard they (the state ) will decide to proceed with recount or not on Nov. 25!! A ridiculously long time to wait! I also read there was something screwy in a Norfolk precinct. With Terry McAwful in charge, no telling the shenanigans. And like in the FL recount, who are these people doing the canvassing?

Seminolesecure posted on Main Page The Lobby  The present Ebola crisis in the world is frightening. I (David A. Rustebakke, DVM ) have submitted the following letter to the editor of the Lewiston Morning Tribune:

Editor, Lewiston Morning Tribune:

If I wish to import a horse into the United States from Liberia or any African country other than Morocco, the horse needs to undergo a 60 day quarantine period at a USDA approved quarantine facility prior to mingling with the general population of horses in this country. Africa has a disease called African Horse Sickness that does not exist in the US; this is the way we have kept it out of this country. African Horse Sickness does not cause disease in people, only horses; our government has determined that it would be devastating to the US horse industry if it were to come here.

The United States (and virtually all other countries ) require a myriad of tests and often quarantine prior to bringing in a foreign animal.

I can’t legally cross state lines in the United States with a horse or cow without a health certificate signed by a USDA accredited veterinarian stating that the animal has been inspected and found free of infectious disease. In most cases blood tests are also required. In fact I can’t legally cross the Snake River and ride my horse in Idaho without a health certificate and a negative blood test for Equine Infectious Anemia.

I’m not complaining; the United States of America, the States of Idaho and Washington as well as the other 48 states take the health of our livestock very seriously, and we have a very good record at keeping foreign animal diseases out of our country. I am happy to do my part to maintain biosecurity in our animal population.

If I am a resident of Liberia incubating Ebola, to enter the United States all I need to do is present a valid visa, and lie when asked if I have been exposed to Ebola. Within hours (no quarantine required ) I can be walking the streets of any city in the United States.

I feel very fortunate to live in a country that values our animals so highly.

David A. Rustebakke, DVM

Safetydude  This administration has no regards for any laws, current or Constitutional, that gets in the way of their agenda which is to flood this country with illigals who are beholden to BHO.

Safetydude  Hey, try crossing from Windsor, Ontario to Detroit, Michigan with some of oranges bought in Toronto.

Miss Tina and were returning to Atlanta after attending a wedding in Toronto and had a travel bag of goodies, including said oranges.

No, no, no you can't bring Canadian oranges into the US without an import license. The problem seemed to be the peel may have been subjected to some spray that was not allowed in the US.

Ok, I said to the guy, watch this; I peeled the four oranges and gave him the peels which he put in a plastic bag.

We wrapped the peeled oranges in paper towels and carried on.

No, I did not give him the finger, he was doing his job.

Seminolesecure posted on Coffee Klatch  Last night Geraldo was more unbearable than usual gushing about Joan River's (our newest saint ) memorial service at a Manhattan synagogue. Jerry was over the moon about the F-bombs and vagina mentions. Aint that just so sweet. To each his own, but how about not in a synagogue? How about some raunchy club instead. What kind of hierarchy do they have in the synagogue? A teaspoon full of standards would be too much? Oh, that's just so yesterday.

Balogreene  I like Joan Rivers. She was relatively conservative, a religious Jew, and a person who spoke her mind. I have lived around the U.S. some people are vulgar, I have been known to be. Sometimes you go along to get along. Sometimes you shock to get attention.
Howard Stern is offensive wherever he is. Do not judge a synagogue until you have been to one. Joan's synagogue had no idea what Howard was going to say, blame him, not the Temple, not Joan. And always remember, if you weren't there, if you are not a member of that Temple, you do not know what was said then or later.

Seminolesecure posted on Blessings  To all the parents out their in agony over their children's decisions, I say keep praying and keep caring. Don't give up. Our son almost flunked out of high school but turned it all around (after facing the unpleasant consequences ) and just graduated college with a finance degree and just finished the first week of his new job in a new city as a portfolio analyst for a retail chain. There were times in his 10th grade year we really despaired and what has happened did not seem possible. Hang in there parents!Brighter days are ahead. I also recommend Raising Cain (younger boys ) and the Pressured Child by Michael Thompson. Counting my blessings!

MeiDei  My mother always told us kids that what we did to our parents we would get back double from our own. I thought I was a good kid & until puberty my son was ideal, everyone loved him. Yes, they do turn out well even when it seems they have little regard for your guidance. Having had this discussion many years ago with a good friend & her son's antics we took relief by recalling: Train up a child in the way they should go & when they are older they will not depart from it. We're never guaranteed what "age" older is so we have to make ourselves as comfortable as we can while hanging in there : )
