MeiDei  It's getting close to Halloween and pumpkin carving. Ray Villafane is a wonderful carver, this link tells a lot about him & offers tips for carving & preserving your hard work. Enjoy:
I hope some "masterpieces" will be attempted and shared here. Good luck!

FlatCityGirl  I'm someone who does not have an ounce of artistic talent and that's why I'm so blown away by people who do. Pumpkin carving is one of those arts that just stuns me.

Balogreene  Is this crafting? I have taken up Fountain Pens again. I use the site to order pens, ink, and some paper (journals, date books, etc. ) Brian and Rachel are a young Christian couple who started this business about 5 years ago. I got a pen, and within a couple months it broke. I wrote the company (here in Ashland VA ), and told them, if it's my fault I'll buy a new one, if it is not, can you fix it? They sent me a new pen, and two samples of inks.

I don't draw (yet, I'm going to try to learn ). But, I have started writing (by hand ) notes to family. It is a creative joy.

MeiDei  Good for you. I wrote a thank you note & letter to one of my nieces and she was thrilled - every body she knows sends text messages only. I think letter writing is a lost art, even addressing envelopes has given way to printed labels, tho' frankly I could use them at Christmas time. If you have a broad nib you can imitate calligraphy by holding the pen slightly askew and get thin and broad strokes as you write. Let us know how you do.

MeiDei  A friend of mine just took up quilling. I Googled it and watched some tutorials on basics and some intricate designs - quite lovely. I expect my Christmas Card will be handmade this year.

FlatCityGirl  With Father's Day coming up here's an idea for a gift for Dad that I did with with my grandsons years ago. I saw it somewhere, a magazine or on display at Hobby Lobby and thought it was really cute.

I used a good quality white T-shirt that fit my son, and painted the boy's hands with bright primary colors using craft paint, and put the hand prints all over the shirt, then used a magic marker --permanent ink, and wrote "Hands Down, Worlds Best Dad." Iron the shirt after the paint drys to set the paint.

To this day, my son says it's one of the best Father's Day gifts he ever received.

Use old rags to test the paint on the hands to see how much is going to make the best hand print; too much paint makes a blob, and not enough doesn't make a good print.

Carmen  Just discovered Create TV on public TV. We are having our kitchen remodeled and we are cooking and eating in the camper. So, I started turning on the TV while making lunch and discovered Create TV or Lots of good ideas on there. I am not normally a daytime TV watcher but just might start taping some episodes that look interesting.

Gram77  I'm just getting the hang of all you can do on Facebook and a cross stitch club popped up. Needless to say I joined. I thought I did complicated work. When I see work posted for all of us to see, I feel like a beginner. These folks do magnificent work. I am still very much a quiet watcher but I am beginning to have questions and it appears that everyone there is quite willing to help.

Surfhut  Hope you have tons of fun with it, Gram. I really enjoy cross stitching, though haven't had time for it lately. My grandmother did a beautiful piece "Let me live in the house by the side of the road and be a friend to man" when she was very young. I framed it and hang it by my front door. It is one of my greatest treasures.

BirdsNest  Years ago I did a beautiful cross stitch piece that required over 40 hours of work. Once it was framed and ready to wrap as a present to my in laws, Hagar picked it up and said "you missed a stitch". I could have slapped him! Sure enough, I missed crossing one stitch. I left it that way.

Gram77  Thanks to a certain gift of thread, material, charts, etc. you bet I used such items! The fabric is about used up but the thread will be here when I go to heaven. Do you think they cross stitch there too?

Balogreene  My family has two copies of a cross-stitch my grandmother's aunt did of the family homestead in Canada. A sod shanty (my grandmother was born in 1907 ) with a small garden of flowers in front. They had a farm near what is now Regina Saskatchewan. We had a copy, badly framed. When I went through Mormor's trunk, I found another copy. Both signed by her aunt. I like to do cross-stitch, but this is the best.

Gerty  Some of you will remember my mitigated flight into my purchasing the Shark Slipper pattern to crochet for my husband. It was not received well by him or my fellow Connectors (NO ONE took up my offer to give the pattern away FREE ).

Rewind to last night while watching the Super Bowl---"Hey, Hon, look at those shark on TV. Whatever happened to those slippers you said you were going to make for me?"

And then the fight began!!
