MeiDei  Perhaps I've mistaken some past posts, if so, I apologize; but these are questions I have, or have been asked:

Yes or No:
Is this site open to all who registered?
Should all posters be respectful to each other?
Should disagreements be handled with courtesy?
Should a "new" poster (long timer lurker ) be made to feel welcome?

Should a new enthusiastic poster be made to feel unwelcomed or intrusive?
If a poster uses the wrong wall, is it right to embarrass him/her?
Is this site now, or in the beginning, exclusive to only a self-select few?
Is it right to stop posting & then "hint" that the site is being "taken over" by those filling the gap?
Are we obligated to take sides & gang up on one another?
If you're offended by posts, or a poster, is it right to post elsewhere & encourage others to leave & join you?

WWJD?
How many have come to The Connection, in a spirit of friendship, posted & left feeling unwelcome?
Just curious

FlatCityGirl  Some of these questions I don’t understand. I’ll answer the ones I do understand with my own opinion.

Is this site open to all who registered? [Yes, as far as I know. If it wasn’t open for all, why would they put it on the front page of the Mother Ship and tell everyone to visit?]

Should all posters be respectful to each other? [Yes, but that doesn’t mean that people can’t disagree, or that anyone has to kow-two just to be “nice.”]

Should disagreements be handled with courtesy? [When the disagreement is between two people they should work it out themselves, without anyone jumping in and chastising one poster or the other. When that happens, debate stops and all hope is gone for two people to state their opinions and work out their differences. Generally, the person who has been chastised will just hush and drop it.]

Should a "new" poster (long timer lurker ) be made to feel welcome? [Has someone been made to feel unwelcome? How? What exactly was the action that made a new poster feel unwelcome?]

Should a new enthusiastic poster be made to feel unwelcomed or intrusive? [Same answer as above.]

If a poster uses the wrong wall, is it right to embarrass him/her? [Maybe Pet Peeves is the place to air that gripe. Personally, I don’t see what difference it makes, but others are apparently anal about it.]

Is this site now, or in the beginning, exclusive to only a self-select few? [Who thinks that? Where does a question like that come from?]

Is it right to stop posting & then "hint" that the site is being "taken over" by those filling the gap? [Who’s doing that?]

Are we obligated to take sides & gang up on one another? [Who’s doing that?]

If you're offended by posts, or a poster, is it right to post elsewhere & encourage others to leave & join you? [Who is doing that?]

WWJD?

How many have come to The Connection, in a spirit of friendship, posted & left feeling
unwelcome? [Who knows?]

Just curious

Okay, now I’m curious about something? What brought this on? You must be hearing from people through e-mail or whatever who are airing these complaints to you.

I would like to know specifically: What the action[s] were that made someone feel unwelcome or intrusive.

That’s just bizarre.

Daisymay  I seem to be the newest Poster here. Looking back, I posted about five years ago, then for some reason quit. It was not because I felt unwelcome. I began posting again this May and I have to say all of you have been very welcoming. I thank you. I decided to check out The Connection because on Ldot things can get pretty nasty, so I've held back from posting on the Home Page as I used to. I just don't like the attacks that take place on the Threads now. Maybe after the election things will go back to people being civil to each other!

StormCnter  It's nice to get some response to Mei's query. There is a reason for every one of her questions and neither she nor others want to rehash those. It's reassuring to see agreement that all should be made welcome as should their ideas and suggestions, even if new and different.

FlatCityGirl  I’ve been an occasional drop in here for years. I would drop in, look at Pets, Reading and Recipes mostly. Crafts. Post once in a while. I started coming more and more as the Silly Season on the Main Page got Hotter and Hotter.

I try my best to abide by the rules, but “don’t chat” and “don’t attack” are hard to follow when you’re being called out by name and attacked personally. But I know something about my luck: I could take it all day long from the same people and nothing happens, but if I struck back, I would be bounced from Lucianne like a beach ball. Gone.

So I started to spend more and more time here, and post more.

I don’t remember being made to feel welcome –no one rolled out the Red Carpet, but I didn’t think anyone would. Or should.

By the same token, I certainly have never been made to feel unwelcome. Since I’ve spent more time here in the last several months, I have gone way back on certain walls and read posts that are months/years old, and I have yet to ever see anything that made me think any one person was being singled out for ridicule or being ostracized, or anything of the kind.

There is one thing that all of us who have been in “chat rooms” for years, know and understand: when you don’t know someone –never met them face-to-face, never heard their voice, never seen a frown or a smile, it is hard sometimes to determine the “tone” of a post. Some people [like me] have a dry, wry sense of humor and use “irony” in our speech. Sometimes when you see something posted that give you pause, you have to take a step back and ask yourself, In what “tone” was that offered? Was that person just being a smarty pants in general, or should I take it personally?

No one should ever take any smarty pants thing I say personally.

MeiDei  Your last full paragraph echoes the experience for many of us, FCG, & it needed repeating. Where we are in our daily life walk sometimes determines how we take things i.e., chastised, or as a put down vs. sloughing it off or skipping over the keyboard on our merry way.

My goal is to encourage and/or leave someone smiling, chuckling or surprised [cheeky retort]- there's just too many stress factors in print or on the airwaves. I hope I succeed.

I think this thread has run its course and time to move on.

MeiDei  Re: Birthday reminders. It was moved to the Events wall in January '16 and until someone voluntarily steps forward as a new announcer it's in limbo. Someone more in tune with the likes/dislikes should take it over - who will that be? Come on, don't be shy - volunteer! Smile
