Crafts

Gerty  Guess what I found while doing some internet shopping?...camo yarn !! I am in the process of crocheting scarves for all the hunters in the family.

This is fun and turns out to be quite a conversation piece.

FlatCityGirl  I don't think this qualifies as a "craft," but isn't it a cute idea for a kid's room?

Miss Lamb Chop  I am a Christmas fanatic. Last year was my first plunge into Christmas yard art. Here is an example. Does anyone have any good ideas for how to harden and pritect styrofoam other than verithane or fiberglass. The gingerbread men did not stand up to the weather.

StormCnter  Miss Lamb Chop, your yard art is striking and it's different from the usual offerings. I think a craft store would have some suggestions about weather-protecting styrofoam.
May I share a yard-art smile? I was poking around north Louisiana one hot summer day in a very rural area (pine forests crowding the road shoulders ) when I spotted a yard displaying a six-foot plywood Jesus with a garden hose coiled around His upraised arm. The homeowner must have decided, "Well, since You are just standing there...".

MeiDei  It's getting close to Halloween and pumpkin carving. Ray Villafane is a wonderful carver, this link tells a lot about him & offers tips for carving & preserving your hard work. Enjoy: http://www.wacktrap.com/events/holidays/ray-villafane-best-h

I hope some "masterpieces" will be attempted and shared here. Good luck!

FlatCityGirl  I'm someone who does not have an ounce of artistic talent and that's why I'm so blown away by people who do. Pumpkin carving is one of those arts that just stuns me.

Balogreene  Is this crafting? I have taken up Fountain Pens again. I use the site Gouletpens.com to order pens, ink, and some paper (journals, date books, etc. ) Brian and Rachel are a young Christian couple who started this business about 5 years ago. I got a pen, and within a couple months it broke. I wrote the company (here in Ashland VA ), and told them, if it's my fault I'll buy a new one, if it is not, can you fix it? They sent me a new pen, and two samples of inks.

I don't draw (yet, I'm going to try to learn ). But, I have started writing (by hand ) notes to family. It is a creative joy.

MeiDei  Good for you. I wrote a thank you note & letter to one of my nieces and she was thrilled - every body she knows sends text messages only. I think letter writing is a lost art, even addressing envelopes has given way to printed labels, tho' frankly I could use them at Christmas time. If you have a broad nib you can imitate calligraphy by holding the pen slightly askew and get thin and broad strokes as you write. Let us know how you do.

MeiDei  A friend of mine just took up quilling. I Googled it and watched some tutorials on basics and some intricate designs - quite lovely. I expect my Christmas Card will be handmade this year.
