ALynnMcW posted on Computers &Tech Issues  I can't stand the ads any longer. Installed ublock for Mozilla Firefox but that didn't work at all. Also need an option for my iphone. The ads are just irritating make reading Lucianne a pain. Can anyone help. I have read this thread and didn't see anything but I am not tech savvy at all. Draw me a picture? Thanks for anything you might suggest.

Tulsa  I have ABP (AdBlockPlus ) installed. I'm using Win. 10. If I use Firefox browser I click refresh on Lucianne and the ads disappear. If I use the Edge browser (the new MS Win 10 browser that is replacing Internet Explorer ) there are no ads at all.

Do a search for example: 'block ads on iPhone'. And see if anything turns up to help you. I'm sorry I don't know anything about iphones.

ALynn. Scroll down this page to Rama41 and see if that helps. I'll check back to see if you've found help.

Tulsa  ALynn, I searched 'block ads on iphone' and received a bunch of hits. I have no idea which version of the phone you have and I don't know if you buy apps or not. You'll have to do this unless someone with iPhone smarts is willing to post here.

You might try searching your phone version and the word forum. Or if your phone has a help icon, type in block ads in the search function.

Tulsa  Thx EC. for stepping up. I think any iPhone forum would help.
...and if you are forced into Win. 10 as we were, the Edge browser blocks ads. Oh how I hate ads.

If you watch any HGTV you'll note Wayfair and Ross? Joss? and Main are offering renovators (I'm guessing they are ) goods for advertising on the shows. Their merch. arrives in boxes with the names of the companies. That is far less offensive than ads, but most of the homes are over displayed with every item offered. Junked up. It's laughable. Less is more people!

Tulsa  Thx, Jerico. I searched 'turn off images'. Here's what I found. Info on several browsers. If yours is not there, make the search specific for your browser.

Rama41  I've just uploaded the Image Block add-on for Firefox. It provides an on-off toggle for images and, so far, appears to work well. Had to first figure out it defaults to off (grey ) and has to be selected to on (red ). Wish it were site specific.

Tulsa  So far, still/just clicking 'refresh' removes ads at Lucianne in Firefox.

The Win. 10 browser Edge was blocking ads at Lucianne, but a recent MS update deleted that feature. Was that clear? Edge is not blocking ads at Lucianne. That is clear!

When are these jerk advertisers going to realize they are driving people away and losing business.

ALynnMcW posted on Suggested Reading  Picked up a book today by J. D. Vance. "Hillbilly Elegy" attempts to explain the anger that elected Trump. I can hardly put it down. I don't know if it's true but these are my people and I understand what he is saying.

StormCnter  I'll be interested in your review, ALynn. I've read a lot about this book, but hesitated about buying it because I'm afraid it'll be a grand slam against rural people and our culture.

ALynnMcW posted on Suggested Reading  Went to the budget book store looking for some seasonal reading. I found two by Max Lucado. One I had read a long time before "Christmas Candle". The other "Cosmic Christmas" I had not read. Both were enjoyable but very different. One predictable the other imaginative. Both capturing the spirit of the season.

StormCnter  Have you visited this wall before? If so, I missed it and if not, a hearty welcome.

Ah, seasonal books. My parents always belonged to every book club available in the forties/fifties because bookstores weren't common in our part of Texas. I read one I'm sure was named "Christmas Carol" and it wasn't the "The Christmas Carol" by Dickens. The one I read was about a Victorian-era family, a young girl named Carol and her very controlling father. She would be punished for an infraction such as using the word "maybe" which her father considered a useless word indicating lack of decisiveness.

ALynnMcW posted on Politics  Can someone catch me up and tell me when serving (there's and old fashioned word ) in elected government became a vanity job? When it became about 4 or 8 years of creating a legacy and not about protecting and defending the country and the constitution? Is this the result of media or just a general decline in civilization? It has become a popularity contest with endless rounds of self promotion and little or no thought to the hard working citizens of this country. I am appalled. I really can't think of a word strong enough to describe how I feel about this administration specifically and government (including most Republicans ) in general. Repulsed comes to mind but really it's worse than that. Just to wrap up I am not hopeless about the situation just heartsick about it. Long live the Republic!

Linder  ALMcW...I have to speak up for my senator. I often wonder what you all think when you see Sen. Grassley on TV. Polished and glib he is not. For real...he is. As a Republican I don't always agree with him but he will have a logical reason for his position and being in disfavor won't budge him. I have to respect that. I've been county chairman of his campaign every year he has run and it is the easiest job possible. Nobody turns me down. For now he is insisting that Congress live under the same Obamacare laws as we in the cheap seats. Thanks, Sen. Grassley.
