Thwarkmaster  The party bosses wouldn't mind going to a brokered convention. Then they can go into super delegate mode, put their little darling mittikins in a basket and carry him across the finish line.
It's way past time for a conservative party; the two lefty organizations are leaving conservatives out, every time. How stoopud are we?

Struan  I doubt Dr. Demento could get his Democrat supporters credentialed at the GOP convention, Yotts. No, Ron Paul doesn't worry me in a floor fight, brokered convention.

   January 13 at 07:18 EST .

Linder  There will never be a candidate who can measure up to some conservative's requirements. To answer your question, IMHO they will go on to the next and next elections proudly holding their noses.
January 13 at 09:47 EST .

Ole buzzard  Struan, as I've said in a couple of other posts, we first need to get rid of Zero, and then get conservatives into the House and Senate. That is where the REAL power is, especially the House, as they hold the keys to the Treasury. My biggest target to replace would be John Boehner. I have never seen such a LOSER of a Speaker in my lifetime.
January 13 at 09:50 EST .

Struan  I agree and as I've said, I'll vote for anyone with the "R" next to their name on the ballot. Every cycle conservatives gotta hold their noses & be marginalized by the Dolemites, the McCainiacs & now the Romneyainins. Conservatives are treated by the GOP just like blacks are treated by the plantation Democrats - they know we've got no place else to go and I'm sick of it and I ain't gonna shut up about it. How crazy is it that, at this point in the nomination process, Romney has 12 delegates and Dr. Demento has 10? In the REPUBLICAN PARTY Presidential candidate selection! . Jefferson was sooooo right - we get exactly the government we deserve.

and then someone please 'splain to this dumb jarhead why we're the ugly stepchildren of the Country Club GOP - please.
January 13 at 11:20 EST .

Ole buzzard  Because the Country Club GOP "knows" they have the conservatives, and they are bending over and kissing their own arses to attract the so-called "moderates" who are unprincipled losers willing to sell their votes to the highest bidder.
January 13 at 12:54 EST .

Struan  So, by that criteria we can expect a GOP ticket of Romney/RuPaul and a "reach-across-the-aisle" appointment of Denny ("I see UFOs" )Kuchinich as SecState. Winnah! Winnah! ChickenDinna!

Or a New England RINO Ruling Junta of Romney, Snowe, Collins & Scottie Brown. The possibilities of reelecting 0bama are endless.

Absurd? Of course. But, you can't satirize surreality.

Belwhatter  You know what tees me off every election cycle is the fact that 2 or 3 eastern states really do decide the outcome for the rest of the country whether we like it or not. There is absolutely no point in my wasting any money supporting my candidate of choice, when the eastern states clobber him/her before the starting gate opens. Why should 46 states be penalized and disenfranchized by this inexplicable system that always favors the same few? A true election would have a proper primary for the whole nation on the same day and let the chips fall where they will. That way there will be no cross over votes and the god awful mudslinging that is the present practice. An extra 'benny' might be that anyone who doesn't vote in the primary forfeits their vote in the Final election - OK now blow my idea to smithereens....

Ole buzzard  We have a lot of the talking heads saying that this could be wrapped by the time the Florida primary is over. What absolute HOG SWILL!!! Romney, Paul, Santorum, and Gingrich could split a whole bunch of primaries between now and the convention and maybe NONE of them has the 1,144 votes to get the nomination. What then? That is when the conservative wing of the party becomes kingmaker. The conservative wing could say "We don't like any of ya'll! Here's who we're putting forward." It has been a LOOOONG time since it happened last, but it has happened.
