Straitpath Okay, another whine: graffiti in all it's utter ugliness.

Rake King They should make every store selling spray paint cans, identfy and record the buyer with a legal I.D., The very worst day for "beauty" was when they first offered spray paint cans on the marketplace.
May 15 at 09:22 EST .
Surfhut The last time I bought a can of spray paint in CA, it was locked up and you had to have ID and be 18. Lots of good that did.
Rake, what you are suggesting about identifying and recording buyers is IMHO a very bad idea. The last thing this country needs is more laws that don't stop criminals but give an even bigger pain in the neck to we law-abiding people.

Linder Thank goodness for spray paint. I am painting some wicker porch furniture a dark charcoal gray color...thought I could do it with a brush but had to buy spay paint to get in behind the weaving. Worked like magic. Having said that, I live in rural America where graffiti doesn't happen and don't have a clue about the irritation of it. It's my inclination to say "no" to another law that causes a lot of cost and extra work for businesses and law enforcement.

Straitpath I heartily dislike mothers day because of the angst it caused me growing up and being a young wife. I have told my kids gifts are against the rules. I will accept casual expressions of love via e mail. No cards. It has been a delightful day for me and for them, too, I think.

Safetydude This is not exactly a pet peeve but my left foot is in a cast! I hurt for a couple of months and then I went to the Quack and he sent me to have an MRI and somehow I have a broken toe and along with that I've torn something that allows the lubricating fluid around the the joint to leak out and maybe I've got bursitis. I was doing just fine 'till I agreed to let Miss Tina come with me to my doctor's appointment. They ganged up on me and I'm off work for three weeks, just to start. According to them if I don't behave I may need surgery! This is the end of my first day and I'm going crazy.

Gerty Now, now, Mr.'dude...these are the times that try men's souls. (I read that somewhere. ) Think of this as more time to spend with us; more time with Miss Tina; that project you've been putting off; etc.!
I think there is something being sold out there that allows you to watch all kinds of movies from the past...even radio shows.
You can do it!

Safetydude I've heard about those machines... End of Saturday, day two and counting. On Mother's Day were having a little BBQ on the clubhouse patio and since I can't do much moving around I'm the griller.
Happy Mother's Day to all that it applies to.

Balogreene Mr. Safetydude, when I was about 25, I got a "bad sprain" to my left ankle. I kept it wrapped, used crutches for a while, drove my sister's automatic. After a couple of months, I went to an orthopedic surgeon who told me I'd torn every tendon and ligament in my ankle. It was mostly healed, but healed wrong. The front ligaments and tendons are too long, the back too short. I go down stairs one step at a time, the ankle just doesn't work right. I always say, listen to the Dr. you don't want to be crippled for life.

Straitpath We have a home owners association committee made up of volunteers. They are little Napoleons. We need a new tree on our front lawn and the president has turned down our request for a quaking aspen because "they bend over under snow." I strongly dislike red leaved trees but she wants to put one in to "add some color." I don't complain because I don't want the job and they have what it takes to enforce the rules. Moan and groan.
May 9 at 23:25 EST .
Rake King Give people power, and like our Congress, they can't resist creating new rules....like we don't have enough rules already.
Gerty Excuse me! What could you possibly mean by "...they have what it takes to enforce the rules." ?
The hair-raise on my back is not directed towards you, MissStraitpath.

Straitpath Well in our neighborhoods we all go to the same church and so when Sister Smith has a dog twice the size allowed and we are all one big happy church family, how can we possibly make Sister Smith give up her baby? Or how can we enforce zoning laws and kick poor Widow Dudley out of her illegal apartment? . That's what I mean by they have what it takes to enforce the rules. They are not wishy washy people and they enforce the rules even though half the people are always mad at them.

Ynaught Political commercials! We can't watch local tv these days since at every commercial there is a Nancy Pelosi paid ad for Elizabeth Colbert Busch. Mark Sanford apparently can't afford to keep up the pace and only has his commercials every other station break. ECB is running the most negative campaign since she has nothing to run on. I can't wait until Tuesday when this will all be over!
My government contact is sequestered every Friday for a while, so, when I asked if I could submit files for approval, she said no use. She's off on Friday's then switches to another project for a couple of weeks.
Also, my company has declared no raises for at least a year, benefits and copays will increase substantially.
They blamed the sequester and ObamaCare. Doesn't matter who they blame, I am taking a pay cut.

Balogreene I'm not too worried. We can do it if we cut back, coupon more, bake more bread, and deserts. We already do most meals from scratch. I'll skip my vacation and work around the house more, make more gifts, etc. I've lived like this before, just hoped I'd gotten beyond that. It's one thing when you're starting out, another when you're ready to retire.

Balogreene My company made no bones about it. The stuff they sent out said, because of Obamacare.
EC, I moved from Chicago to Albuquerque, to NYC, to the DC area. Starting over in a new place doesn't bother me. I've been here 15 years anyhow. But, our combined income has been going backward for two or three years now. Then my company says, sorry, it's going backwards again. Isn't America about going forward?

StarFire My daughter does second tier tech support for a Dept. of Defense contractor. Between the sequester and Obamacare, they have been hit hard. All the employees were given a 25% pay cut on March 1st. They're still working 40 hour a week, but at 75% of their former pay.

BirdsNest It's folks like us that will cut back on luxuries and make do with what we have or make it out of spit and toothpicks, others not so much. They will still eat take out food and order in pizzas while we make our own. I'd rather make my own-already we make our own pizza, ricotta cheese, yogurt, baked goods, etc. But you're right Balo, "It's one thing when you're starting out, another when you're ready to retire. " It's the first of the month again and the stores were brimming with freshly loaded EBT cards. And they want to allow MORE illegals in to go on the dole and clog up our country??

BirdsNest Balogreene, if it were me I would be more concerned about my mother than myself and I have a feeling that is the case with you.
Yes Bird, I'm upset mom's lifestyle isn't what it should be. Thank goodness she has SS and daddy's pension, and good insurance. I actually have two sisters who won't let mom go hungry, or my other sister, either.
I'm sure StarFire's daughter knows like I do, you can't even go to another company, they are all in the same boat. But, I have a job, and insurance, and a home we are not under water on, and a car that is paid for. I have good friends, God, and family. I really shouldn't complain.

Straitpath Increased taxes are hitting us way hard. We have to pay estimated taxes every quarter and they have increased a lot. We are starting to look at everything we buy twice to see if it is worth the expense. Gas is really an expense. Moan and groan.

StarFire I will admit I often use humor to deal with grief. My youngest sister and I are no longer allowed to sit together at family funerals because one inevitably makes the other giggle through the tears.
Still, it bothers me that lately memorial services are being taken over by politicians. They become pep rallies with boilerplate applause lines that have nothing to do with the person(s ) being memorialized and do nothing for those loved ones who grieve. When did it become normal to applaud at funerals? As my mother would have said, “Tacky!... Just Tacky!”

Rake King Why when the government agencies can tell you what to do and act, we can't make them sync stop and go lights. They complain about the air in St. Louis, a city located in a low area, with rivers all around it - thus a candidate for smog.
My Son just returned from a business trip to Japan and he marveled at how the traffic (very heavy ) moves. When he asked, he was told they have cameras at all major street intersections and monitors can turn the lights toward the most traffic flows, change timing for demand needs, and during emergencies shorten arrival times for fire, police, ambulance, by holding back conflicting traffic.
With all of our tax dollars, why can't U.S. cities do the same. It would create thousands of jobs (construction and monitoring ), improve the air, and increase productivity of all kinds (taxi, bus, trucks, salesmen, etc. )
Come on you bureaucrats, do something positive for a change.

Balogreene Rake, I think Fairfax County VA does that. I've run a long stretch of route 29/50 at off hours and never stopped at a red light. I know a lot of lights are synched to the time of day, rush hour or not.
