Gram77  Don't mean to be a pest, but there are lots of super bright folks here. I just went on line for an explanation of why I had no increase in my Social Security. Found a site where I could ask and get an answer. In order to get my answer I had to enter a credit card number. Is this common? Oh, I should also include this bit of info. I called Social Security yesterday and hung in there for 50 minutes to get some one to speak to. Their explanation was that I would get no increase because my Medicare increase cancelled the raise. Sorry I'm such a bother but I am confused. Why do they make things so complicated or is it just me?

StormCnter  I hope you didn't enter your credit card number, Gram. That site would be a sort of scam where you are charged for getting answers you can get for free. The SS explanation makes sense. My SS check is adjusted every year based on my previous year's income. The "contribution" rises or falls depending on whether I made more or less money the year before.

Gram77  Nope. they didn't get my card number. If nothing else I never give out any numbers for anything! And thank God I have never fallen for goofy phone calls wanting information. I haven't worked in years so income adjustment shouldn't be the problem. Thanks a bunch for responding. Great people around here!

StormCnter  You may not have employment income, but if you have other income, such as investments, etc., those count and are taken from your tax returns. I haven't worked in years, either.

Tulsa  I read up on this. The Cola is based on the previous year...total medicare costs and the Cola increase. Since there was no Cola increase last year, this year is meager.

And bc there was a Cola this year, Medicare can and did increase the cost of Part B (I think ) by an amt. equal to the Cola.

StormCnter  The Medicare deduction from our SS checks is one thing. I get an explanation for an increase or decrease of the cost of my Medicare premium each year and it is based on my income for the previous year. Cola is different.

Gram77  Among the envelopes in yesterday's mail was the yearly one from Social Security telling me what the increase will be for the new year. My increase is a whopping zero for 2017.

GO3  Good move by Trump. He knows how to start negotiations by going to one extreme and then bargaining to the middle. BTW, I think the hidden meaning is a shot across the bow of the company which stands to gain the most from the horrible Iran deal. But that's just me.

RedWhiteBlue  I hope this email I got is right...

The best explanation of why the Founders had unbelievable wisdom in designing the Electoral College.
It also illustrates that the Democratic Party does not represent the country, just the heavily populated east
and west coast mega cities which are out of touch with the vast majority of the country.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.
Trump won 3,084 of them.
Clinton won 57.
****************************** ****
There are 62 counties in New York State.
Trump won 46 of them.
Clinton won 16.
****************************** ****
Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.
In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens ) Clinton received
well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties, Trump won Richmond )
Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.
These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.
The United States is comprised of 3, 797,000 square miles.
When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those that encompass a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.

GO3  I think your numbers are good, because I saw something similar the other day, but I can't remember the source. Anyway, I agree; we can't have big blue cities dictating what's best for the country.

GO3  I was wrong - maybe. AP says the numbers are Hillary 487 to Trump 2626. My project in the next few days is to count each state on NYTs election map. AP could be right, but I think Hillary's count is too high.
Yesterday at 04:58 EST .

GO3  I was wrong again. I went over the NYT election map here http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results
/president
in detail. By my count Hillary won 634 counties. That's still way lower than Trump, but certainly not 57 as the email says.

Gram77  I try to be open minded and not judge too harshly even though I am getting older and more impatient. However, why does President Elect Trump spend so much time on Twitter?

Fireball27  Because he wants to be exactly the opposite of George W. Bush. Mr. Bush let the left and media get away with lying about him, and never did anything about it. Mr. Trump is not going to allow them to do it to him. I for one will try in any way to help Mr. Trump accomplish this. I was railing against Mr. Bush for not speaking up. The media just kept lying and lying. Ask any liberal, they know so much that is not true. But to them it is fact. Fact because the media said it, and no one called them on it. Just look at the "Mission Accomplished" banner on the ship. Liberals claimed Mr. Bush declared our fighting in Iraq done and over. The banner however was a banner for the crew as they had completed their tour and were headed home. Even after it was pointed out as such, the media kept up with the, Bush declared Mission Accomplished story. This is also what Mr. Trump meant when he was talking about going after the media for the stories they publish, after they know the truth, have been advised of the truth, and then keep publishing the false story as if it were the truth. Media malpractice.

StormCnter  Respectfully, I differ with Fireball27's take. Mr. Trump's Twitter obsession has nothing to do with George W Bush. Trump enjoys the ability to tweet his thoughts and opinions and there's nothing wrong with that. I would like to see him be a little more discreet, however. Maybe that will come with the pressures of running the country.

GO3  I for one, do agree with Fireball's take. It's not only defending your position, it's going directly to the people and bypassing the media, which was Trump's enemy just as much as Hillary. Reagan did TV and radio; Trump does Tweets ( I personally don't use Fakebook or Twitter ) because he can get his views out to every single account holder without having to use CNN. I can't think of a more effective way to counter loony celeb Tweets than by using the technology to your advantage. It's not an obsession, it's a damn good tactic.

Pete Stone  Now that Mr. Trump is going to be President (No matter what Mizz Stein causes in the Wisconsin and Michigan recounts, he has the electoral votes. ), it's time he started acting more presidential. That includes putting his brain in gear before he tweets. Or, better yet, he should quit tweeting. Twitter is for lamebrains anyway.

Namma  Problem is that reading a text and hearing someone speak can be totally different while saying the same thing. I don't mind Trump tweeting. it is a way for him to by pass the press. Like hussien bypasses congress. But he should very careful his tweets are not taken the wrong way. Not an easy thing to do

Fireball27  Pete Stone, don't you see what I am trying to point out? Mr. Bush acted "Presidential". I don't want that! Most people I know, don't want that. You have to break some eggs to make an omelette. The media will still twist whatever Mr. Trump says, but he can get the truth out right away by tweeting. I don't have a Twitter account but I am very glad Mr. Trump does. He is giving the media fits! They would be controlling everything he says if he weren't able to correct them and show just how corrupt they are.

Remember the Fast and Furious gun running? Ask people if they know about it. Even staunch conservatives don't know what happened. Ask about Brian Terry. The media keeps those stories as quiet as they can, but they can't anymore. We can't allow this to continue. Look what it has done to our country. I say Tweet and Facebook and post on your favorite web site, but make sure we are heard. If Mr. Trump or someone with some guts would have Tweeted about the Michael Brown shooting in Mo. perhaps the BLM movement wouldn't have grown to what it is. It's Hammer Time!!! Hey media, we are coming for you!

GO3  Politics is a contact sport. The dems understand this and the pubs historically haven't. We have to lower our Miss Manners pinkie and get into the fight if we want to succeed. Trump wouldn't be where he is business-wise if he took things thrown at him in a "dignified" manner, and he sure wouldn't be headed to the WH against the likes of Hillary and the Clinton machine.

Suejeanne  Saw on the Drudge Report that Google Maps has "Trump Tower" as "Dump Tower" - so, went on Google Maps and entered the correction (if you have not done that before, find the location you want to correct on the map, click it and then enter the name/location ("Trump Tower" ) then down below, indicate what the mistake was ("Dump Tower" ). If anyone else would like to do that as well, go to Google Maps for Midtown Manhattan - Trump Tower is on 5th between 56th and 57th Streets )

Alice  There is evidence from mediums that there is a review of one's life after physical death, and the review includes experiencing the effects of one's actions during life on others. If so, Fidel Castro has a long time to spend suffering before he is greeted at the entrance to the fiery pits.
