Bettijo Access Denied. Invalid Session from proc:Post_Comment !
This is the message I got three times after posting here. I am going to try again because I really need help.
I need advice on Windows 8. I am basically skeptical of new operating systems, but what is the alternative? I have read everything on this wall and somebody implied they had bought a MAC instead. Any information or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Balogreene Bettijo, I got a MacBook Pro for the following reasons: I hate PCs, I have an iPod, iPad, and iPhone, by switching to a MAC they all sync, photos, songs, text messages, etc. that doesn't happen if you have a PC, I saved enough to afford this more expensive computer, and, MS doesn't upgrade Mac versions quite so often. Some PC type computers don't upgrade as quickly as Dell or HP. Look at Acer, they are good, inexpensive, and often a version behind (I have one ). The other thing I have to say, because at work we pretty much keep up with technology, spend a day or so to get used to Windows 8. You'll like it soon enough. I may be a power user, but, last time we switched at work, I set things up (toolbars, sidebars, etc. ) so I work quite efficiently. The first PC I worked on was pre-Windows. Windows was ok, cause I had also worked on the first Mac. But, Windows has never matched the Mac operating system. As we say at work, I hate Bill Gates, I hate Microsoft, I hate Apple! They all have their faults.

Balogreene Oops, and if we were all skeptical of new Operating Systems, we'd still be using DOS.

Bob913 New update for Windows 8 users. Microsoft may bring back the Start button and have the computer startup to the "normal" desktop. It is codenamed Windows Blue, also known as Windows 8.1
Down below you can buy a start button and menus for $4.99 but here in this post you can get it free from Classic Shell. I use this one for Windows 7 but they also have made it work now for Windows 8. Also they have made the folders better. I hate Windows 7 folders.

Tocsin Is anyone else receiving this popup on the Mother site?: "This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js." It freezes the site until I X-it out. Doesn't seem to be a big problem, just annoying. Google ''search'' no help. Is it on my computer(I've run virus scan-no viruses )or the Mother site? Thanks

Escaped commieny I had to install Firefox, my windows XP Prof wouldn't update past explorer 8 and got all sorts of messages, some were activeX's and a bothersome 'compatibility view' Haven't had any problems with Firefox after I added AdBloc. I was going to ask anyone about spell check, the one on IE, corrected, but the spell check for Firefox just tells me I misspelled, without correcting it. So it depends on what I am doing, which browser I use.

Bob913 For those that have or are thinking about getting a new computer and wonder if Windows 8 is going to be a problem. The answer is yes it will be but...... there are fixes from other companies that will make it like Windows 7.
Stardock has 2 products to get that will fix the problem Microsoft has given the world.
Start8 - brings the Start button back! http://www.stardock.com/products/start8
Run Modern (Metro ) apps in a window on your desktop with ModernMix http://www.stardock.com/products/modernmix/index.asp
Free Windows 8 Tweaker for Enabling/Disabling Metro UI http://www.superutils.com/products/win-eight-metro-ui-switcher/
Here are a few of the Winkey keyboard shortcuts: http://pcworld.co.nz/pcworld/pcw.nsf/feature/20-essential-windows-8-tips-and-tricks
Winkey: toggles between Start Menu and last app Winkey + D: opens Desktop Winkey + C: opens "Charms" bar Winkey + E: opens file explorer Winkey + F: searches for files Winkey + I: opens the Settings charm (to shut down your computer, for example ) Winkey + Z: opens "app bar" (the menu user interface that is normally hidden when interacting with a Windows 8 app ) Winkey + X: opens the "power user" menu (which includes programs and features, power options, event viewer, system, device manager, disk management, computer management, command prompt, task manager, control panel, file explorer, search, run )

Bob913 Today I upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I opted to have it update instead of doing a clean install. It took about 45 minutes. Afterward all my stuff and my programs from before were still there. I then bought the Stardock ModernMix for $5 http://www.stardock.com/products/modernm ix/index.asp I have the Start button back. I have the color tiles hidden unless I want to see them. The text is much sharper then in Windows 7, however you cannot easily change fonts for say the desktop icons. It was always easy with Windows 95 thru 7 but now you have to go into the registry to make changes. I suspect that there are or will be programs that will make it easy to change the annoying features from windows 8. It looks like Windows 7 now with some differences. When you buy a new a new pc be sure to get the Stardock ModernMix. the best $5 you will spend for your computer. Microsoft really should have included these features that Stardock's ModernMix includes. If they did then people would be upgrading their pc's instead of staying away.

Escaped commieny I use Windows XP Professional, I don't want to change, however it can't upgrade beyond Explorer 8. For my Disqus sites I had to install Firefox. What addon do you recommend? What is Adblocker? it mentions google. I got rid of all my google mail and searchs before last March because of their being in bed with the regime. I use Startpage, Ixquick. I don't want to confuse this little machine but, even on luci, my homepage for 12 years, I will get a message that it switched to Compatibility Mode, there is no option to turn that off with XP Prof, SP3. Any suggestions?

Balogreene I've been sitting on this comment for a while. I couldn't stand the idea of getting rid of XP (and it is still on my PC ). But, work switched us to 2007, or 10, or whatever. It didn't make me happy. As a writer, I spent a day setting up Word, PowerPoint, and Excel with the proper tool bars and menus. I have my tool bars set up to have all my favorite commands, so I don't have to explore the new, uninformed menus. I have a lot of icons (page format, paste special, templates, copy, page numbers, etc. ), I don't have to figure out which menu to go to (I hate the new menus, they make no sense ). That said, when I needed a new computer for home, I got a MacBook Pro, and the new Windows. Again, I spent a lot of time setting up my toolbars. But it works for me. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have to for work. But it works. I also do not use Google for anything.

MissBlue Adblocker comes in Firefox and I love it! Spaces that used to contain obnoxious ads are just spaces. Can't remember why I switched to Fox, but it works well for me and I'm not long off the turnip truck re PC work.

Escaped commieny It was either on the main site or here in the beginning: http://www.iespell.com/ "ieSpell is a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a webpage. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of web-based text entry (e.g. web mails, forums, blogs, diaries ). Even if your web application already includes spell checking functionality, you might still want to install this utility because it is definitely much faster than a server-side solution." Before you hit share, right click this box and you will see an option to check spelling. The trick is to remember to use it, lol.

Essgee1952 I have become more and more concerned about data mining by Google. They already know far too much about me. Does anyone know which (if any ) search engines and free email providers don't do it?
