Rake King  A friend of mine sent me these two shots of the "Rarest Automobile", 1954 Concept Old's Rocket F88, Sold at Barrett-Jackson auction for $3,240,000.00 Only one is left in existence.

Straitpath  We got our 1973 blue Volkswagen Super Beetle out of the garage where it has been for fifteen years. We tooled around with five little kids in the back when we were young. It is still in beautiful shape. Decided it was time to give it to a daughter who wants it. My husband made me go get a hamburger in it today. No place to put the Cokes. Had to crank down the window. Our elbows kept bumping. No nostalgia for me. Lots for him.

Rake King  The longer you hold them and keep them in cherry condition, the more they are worth....not like usual cars that lose value everyday. How many miles are on that one?
April 27 at 11:24 EST .

Straitpath  Rake, it had 124000 on the odometer, but it could have turned over, we can't remember. It is a little beauty to look at, and my husband loved driving it. He takes excellent care of his cars so it was in as good a shape as possible.
April 27 at 21:34 EST .

Safetydude  The odometer in my old Bug only went up to 99999.9?
I bought it in Germany so it may have beeen different from the export models.

Rake King  I must have mis-heard it. I remember your turnpike is I-77, but I guess that route goes on into Virginia.

Balogreene  Interesting, I live in VA, and I get down to Kentucky via Rte 81, until this morning I'd never heard of 77. But, it was apparently quite an accident.

Rake King  O.B.: I have been meaning to give you this link: www.bigbendrrclub.org
It is a railroad club operated in the old Webster Groves, MO Frisco Railway train station that goes back to its origin 1910 when the building was built. You may wish to look in on their site.

Ole buzzard  I had heard of that club when I was stationed at Scott AFB, but never got a chance to visit. Their web site doesn't offer much, nor does their Facebook page. That's sad, because they had a great local reputation.

Rake King  From what I understand they have two huge model train layouts, which every now and then they permit non-members to visit and see the trains run. I am going the next open house with my great grandson (he's 6 )...I know he will really get a kick out of this. I will try to report back to you. I understand from a neighbor who knew some of the members, they have had a number of deaths to their veteran members.

Ole buzzard  I think their layout was on the layout tour when the National Model Railroad Association had their annual convention in St. Louis in 1975.

Balogreene  I drove this car home from work today, just like this. Well, it was my 2005 Mazda Miata, English racing green (sort of ). It was only about 60, but, it was sunny. I put the heat on low on my feet, kept the windows up. And let everything flow out behind me. When I got home, all there was left was peace.
