Rake King  Old friends coming home is about the best life offers.

Rollingcow  Wow! It's been a while since I've posted. Life has been pretty busy here in the Barn. Winter seemed to linger forever this year and as the school year wears on the kids have more things that need to be done. Mrs. Calf and the kids all went to the Juvenile Diabetes walk, they raised at least a thousand dollars from friends and relatives, Victoria had her first dance recital which I missed because Miss Charlotte was running a fever so I stayed home with her. Victoria did very well, how do I know? She told me of course. Jack joined Cub Scouts and learned how to ride his bicycle, but is still a video game junkie at heart. Charlotte is going to be our tall, skinny girl-you know the kind who can eat anything and never gain an ounce? That's our girl. She's started to talk more now 'Ess' and 'Ease' are my favorites, she has also discovered Doc McStuffin's on Disney Junior so we have to get her all things Doc. I have taken up knitting again, I quit years ago when I started to quilt, but Charlotte loves to go outside so I needed something a bit more portable. I'm getting pretty good at makeing scarfs and started a sweater this morning-we'll see how that goes, but I'm loving it so far. It's sort of Zen and I've been listening to Civil War books on my i-pod. Mr. Cow and the Calf took their dream trip out to Gettysburg last month so I now have my very own set of forager's caps, one blue and one grey not to mention some great shirts, a throw, several coffee cups and a key chain (they went a little overboard on the gifts ). The girls got teddy bears, but they all fight over Jack's musket and flintlock pistol. We are all waiting for the new baby to arrive now and are looking forward to finding out what it will be. We'd all like another boy, but girls are good as well.

BirdsNest  Yes, Mrs. Cow, it has been a long time. Glad to know everyone in the Barn is happy and healthy. With Miss Charlotte out and about it must keep you on your toes. Whatever the baby turns out to be, it will be in a great environment in which to grow. The Barn will be even more active!! Glad to see you back posting, you have been missed.
May 20 at 22:32 EST .

Balogreene  Sounds like life is good in the barn.
May 20 at 22:40 EST .

Surfhut  Its wonderful to hear stories from the Barn. Sure would be nice to see a picture of the kids. When is the new baby due?

Rollingcow  The baby should be here sometime in November I'm told. We have a new great-nephew coming in August to satisfy that 'I need to hold a baby' urge. Victoria graduates from pre-school tonight and I'll see if I can get something posted from that. Jack is now 4 foot 5 and weighs in at about 80 pounds, I think he's going to be a very big boy.

Gram77  Don't know where to post this but I guess this will do. I started working when I started college, which was 1951. I stopped working this Monday, which is 2013. Boy, am I enjoying doing things on MY schedule! Can someone guess how old I am?
May 16 at 13:06 EST .

Balogreene  I'm not going to guess a lady's age, but Gram, 62 years of working. You deserve to retire.
May 16 at 18:10 EST .

   Montanabound  I'll guess - 80? Congratulations!
May 17 at 00:53 EST .

Gerty  Congratulations, Gram!! May you enjoy every minute of your new found FREEDOM!
May 17 at 04:18 EST .

Gram77  Montanabound is soooo close. I'm 81 and still swimming, riding a bike and trotting on the treadmill. Apparently I have my mother's genes. She made it to 98! God bless you, Balogreene......62!!!! Love it! And, my higher power is my main vitamin.
May 17 at 07:53 EST .

BirdsNest  Gram, you trying to put us all to shame??? It is great that you are so active at your age. I hope you enjoy every second of your retirement....having to deal with the general public for so many years, you deserve it!
May 17 at 11:02 EST .

Surfhut  Gram! You go girl! I'm 58, swim every weekend during the summer, go to the gym every other day. So far, its paying off. Hope I'm still going strong like you are when I'm 81.

You, Gram, are an inspiration!
May 17 at 19:24 EST .

Eagles Dominion  Sounds as though you enjoyed your chosen path in life Gram...I truly hope you enjoy your retirement and continue being in the obviously good health that you are currently enjoying! :- ) I've been retired 7 years now and have loved every minute of it!

FL Homeschool Mom  Sorry I've been gone so long. A root kit (sp? ) virus took out my computer and I've had to use my Kindle for the web, unfortunately, it wouldn't allow me to post comments. Not sure why, but I'm back again.

I had a terrible depression from Thanksgiving until March. The second year is harder than the first and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I guess that's when reality sets in I just never felt so alone in my life.

I've started exercising every day and watching what I eat and it's helping to lift the fog. I've lost 20 lbs. -- bonus! I'll never give up on the exercising, it's better than any medication I could take.

I missed you guys!

Magdalene  FlMom, so good to see you! I had the darnedest time weaning off Cymbalta last year, the resulting depression was devastating. The only thing that helped at all was large doses of good natural B-complex vitamins. I'm much better now, but I still take them every day.

Gerty  So happy to see you back, also, Miss Homeschool Mom! Hope the children are well and you are celebrating your loss of 20 lbs.!! That is quite an accomplishment.

Welcome home!

Balogreene  Glad you're back, and beginning another part of the recovery. 20 lbs is fantastic!

I would think (as a depressive ), depression is normal. My dad has been dead 15 years, he is in every dream I have. I see things in the store, and think of buying them for him. I don't get depressed, I expected him to go first. But, my mom, has such a time. Some days she's fine, some she gets melancholy. She never expected to outlive him by 15 years. Glad to hear you are dealing with it healthily.

Surfhut  Welcome back, FlMom! How wonderful is this, having you and Mags both back? Way wonderful!

From one widow to another, the bout of depression you experienced is not uncommon. Happened to me, too. But we survive! If you are like most of us, there will be moments from time to time when it hits you again and you bust out crying. Those moments are just moments and don't turn into something longish-term.

Wish Hikergal would drop in. She and I are both widowed somewhere near 5-1/2 years. She'll encourage you, too.

Anyway, welcome back! Surfie Smooch!

BirdsNest  REALLY good to see you back, you have been missed. Your road has been a tough one for sure, thankfully your children have cause you to put one foot in front of the other for their sake and maybe now you can start to go forward. Lots of good people here can help....and already have helped I am sure.

Gerty  Question: When did it happen that a little phrase like "my Joe" would bring tears to my eyes both bitter and sweet?!?

Lost is always bitter.

Love burning brightly between death and reunion is sweet IF we know that it is a nurturing flame. It gives light and hope to all of us who are separated from our loved ones. It provides the warmth of a knowledge that we will be reunited at a future time. In all good time determined by Our Lord.

Magdalene  Family. Never thought my family of origin would fall apart as thoroughly as it has. My mom, gone now 9 years, was truly the glue that held us together. Now my family is my husband, my cousin who lives with us, and I, but I have a larger family among the believers I meet with regularly, the patriots I converse with on FaceBook, and you all here. We are genetically linked by our common God and Country.
Love you guys, all of you.
